What you need to know about my list - it was intentional that I put my thoughts on the series under "Tags" - I was initially going to figure out how to modify the format, but I uh.. didn't, and can't bring myself to try now. They're where I want them to be - some day I'll figure out how to / if I can, a day more motivated than this one ;)
.....so
I like me some anime. I don't know what I would have turned out like if I hadn't discovered it at a young age - probably a huge loser - which I am most definitely not now. No, really.
I don't usually "drop" anime... at least not yet. I hold indefinitely ;) maybe one day - I'm not going to commit to NEVER trying to watch something again when I've not ...seen it. That said I am pretty close to dropping one or two because I can't conceive of a future situation where they don't irritate me... I can watch just about anything, it's got to really suck for me to not be able to make it through.
I used to be a strictly action/shonen guy until I found Gintama, which is right up there as one of my favorites - if not my favorite anime. It's Japanese pop culture and anime references made me expand my horizons and it's cross-genre plot and writing made me a fan of pretty much all genres. There's not a genre I particularly hate, and have found even the most overdone tropes / stereotypes / character archetypes can still produce a great show.
If not Gintama, my favorite anime series would probably be "Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha". I just find it too lovable, the world and most of the characters, the art style, the plot, the sound design (especially in the movies) ...all the little details, they're great. The (currently 4) movies blow most other anime movies out of the water. The plots are fantastic as well, and unexpectedly serious - not in a depressing way, like the Madoka plot. The newest / 4th movie "Detonation" is probably my favorite anime movie overall. Followed by the 2nd movie "A's", for very much the same reasons.
Just watch the 4 movies, you should understand. If you don't, you're broken. There is no hope left in your dark world.

Very true, I think so far we've only heard one or two songs of Carol's (in GX) but the genocide song really stuck out, I'm definitely adding it to my playlist later. :o
Yeah, I had the exact same reaction as Carol when I saw Dr. Ver, the guy really steals the show whenever he shows up lmaoo. What I liked about Dr. Ver was that even in the introduction to his character last season we all knew this dude was bad news, unlike Ryouko who we were supposed to believe was a good guy who was obviously a villain (who also felt flat as a character too), they really upped the silliness/villain act with Dr. Ver which really set him apart from other villains. That's another reason why he works well with the other girls like Maria, the guy is shameless and will betray you for his goals but will still hold up his values (at least from what we seen from the last episode of GX).
I finished the end of GX, seeing the sacrifice Dr. Ver did was pretty nice, but I don't believe for a second he's dead. Also it was a shame to see Carol and Elfnein combine and for Elfnein to be the main one now, I quite liked Carol and thought Elfnein was kinda boring to be honest, I guess I'll see if in the future seasons if it's permanent.
...they have a good aura, or magic. Haha. They look like they're having fun - probably why. I imagine they're all kindred spirits.
Platina Jazz is really good, they have done a lot of anime OP and these two are my favorites:
True but I've seen that the audience general opinion on the guy's return was positive, seemed like everyone was happy to see him back during GX (at least on the forums). XD
I already forgot about that guy that I had to search him up after reading your comment, so I guess you are right that he was generic lol.
Definitely! Symphogear is an interesting show that I keep switching my favorites around (well except Chris, she's always #1) with how Hibiki was my second favorite but now I'm really liking Kirika and Shirabe. They all great characters and have beautiful songs!
This 100%, I really appreciate how much care they put into Chris character and how she still feels responsible for her past mistakes, a lot of other animes would have had their villain to heroes characters forgive themselves after just one season but Symphogear is different in that regard. You can say the same with the other characters to like Maria too, makes them feel more real.
Yeah I just wish they delved more into Fine, I think I said it earlier but she felt quite undeveloped compared to everyone else. :/
Also almost forgot, I found these on the MAL forums for the episode Dr. Ver shows up in and thought they were hilarious.
And Carol face at the end is especially hilarious loool. xD
Yep. Maybe they'll somehow still incorporate them into the new timeline? Never know.
To be honest, I still haven't actually watched the movies yet (even though I'm reading the new manga lol) but so far I'm liking how they are doing the military in the new manga.
Me neither... Especially with the whole Force thing.
Yep! I finally got around to watching the series. While the first season was below average, the rest of the seasons so far have been awesome!
Eh, I think all of them are great singers. Though I haven't listened to the songs by themselves yet since I don't want to accidentally spoil myself if I see a glance at future stuff on YouTube. ;-;
Whoa, I didn't even notice they were the same. Usually I'm on top of recognizing voice actors, nice catch.
I've noticed that Chris usually has the most silly songs, but it's also very cute when used with her personality. xD
I believe they have done one or two last season too, with Shirabe and Kirika, they were pretty nice!
Oh yeah, I keep forgetting I did see you sometimes when reading the episode discussions. You had some interesting comments.
I agree 100%. Chris is my favorite character outta of them all, she is adorable but also cool! Plus her character design is top notch. I think my second favorite would probably be Hibiki, she was kinda a boring character in the first season but the future seasons really fixed her character. I can't wait to see more moments of these two interacting, they are the best. =)
I can see why. Almost all the characters are great and fleshed out quite well, even the side characters like Miku.
Ah Dr. Ver. I saw people in the discussion didn't like this guy in the last season but I found him funny as a villain (unlike the villain from the first season, Ryoko Sakurai), it was obvious to everyone this dude was bad news but I couldn't hate him LOL.
It's fine. I sometimes miss notifications too and have to go back and check my comment history (kinda like right now lol).
True. I have gone down many roads looking for something similar but haven't either. Though I have found some good Magical Girl animes through that still are nice (examples being Yuki Yuna is a Hero).
But have you seen we're actually getting a new Nanoha anime and manga for the 20th anniversary? The manga is already out with 3 chapters and it's been great so far!
But it seems the Strikers timeline is no longer canon since the anime/manga is following the movies timeline. Now me myself, I didn't like Strikers and everything after it but it's still sad to see characters like Vivio and Teena not be around anymore. :/
Same here, it's a shame there isn't much Nanoha content nowadays even though it's top tier. I'll just have to take solace in looking at fanart and doujinshi for it.. ;-;
How have you been?
She's a lot like Card Captor Sakura to me. Yes I actually think all should become magical girls hahah ^^
Quite the opposite for me... Really busy with work and my desired career. Not that much of time for anime, unless it is on my phone or so, while I am traveling. I am what the say workaholic, hah. Used to have free time which allowed me to watch more anime.
How are you?
