Do you guys mark a manga as complete if you pick it up from where the anime adaptation left off?

I just wanted to know if people do that to keep track of their manga even though they skip stuff covered by the anime.

For example, I picked up Kimetsu no yaiba from chapter 54 and dropped it at around 105. But my entry shows that I have read 105 chapters before dropping.

Nope. Reread it to see the differences or how it's expressed.

In these cases, I mark the manga as "completed", with just the amount of chapters I read (like "completed 94/175" instead of 175/175, to make it clear that those are the last 94 chapters and not the first 94).

I read the Attack on Titan manga before the final season ended. Since I had heard the manga was ending soon I thought I'd read it as I knew I was going to get spoiled given the fact the "final season" wasn't adapting the entire story. I started it at chapter 90 (which I had read it before) and binge-reading it in like two days. Considering what happened with that fucking thing I will not read pre timeskip and mark it as completed.

Otherwise, I read it from the beginning.

I had this dilemma myself regarding this, I started the AoT manga from like chapter 103 or something (since I decided to read it after episode 2-3 of season 4) and just decided to start from the beginning once I finished it since at the time I knew I wouldn’t be able to read though the entirety before the last chapter came out, well sadly the ending kinda left a bad taste in my mouth and as a result I don’t want anything to do with the series anymore

but usually for other series I just see if any full chapters are missing, if not I just start from where the anime leaves off since quite honestly one or two missing lines here and there really doesn’t warrant a full read of something I already experienced in anime form

edit: just saw Fruscio had the same problem as me regarding AoT lmao, goes to show how amazing Isayama is at writing /s

I read reviews and stuff and ask people around about how different they are. I also sometimes download the manga and skim through the chapters as the episodes are refreshed in my memory, if there's a lot of differences then I will reread it

short answer - yes.

In some cases I like to start from the beginning/ read a few chapters to see how it feels compared to the anime or how much has been changed. When I know the anime has fucked up then I read it obviously in it's entirety. But even if I only pick it up where the anime left off, then I still mark it as completed.

I usually read from the beginning because there might be some differences, but even if I don't I mark chapters skipped as read and call the manga completed even if I only read the missing parts

Yes.

If I really like the series then I'd have started reading from beginning. Otherwise I just read because I'm curious of what happens after the anime, so even if I skip the chapters covered on anime, I will mark it as completed since I probably won't re-read it anyways.

I think you should always read from the beginning since they skip a lot in the anime. However, it might be boring if you know what happens.
My tip is to wait a little, maybe a couple of months or so before reading. It's not like it's going to escape for good and you can't read it anymore.
Also, if you find the anime good enough that you want to check the manga. Buy that shit instead than pirate it online. Show some money for the hardworking people in the industri.

Sorry for rambling or shit like that, quite drunk despite it being 14 p.m. It's Saturday so who gives a sh*t right?

that’s a rlly good idea actually lmao!!! ive been reluctant to pick up mangas from where animes have finished bcos it’d bother me if i couldn’t enter it into MAL properly, but i’ll do it this way too, that makes a lot of sense!! :)

Depends, if I know that the anime is a 1:1 adaptation of the manga then I just pick it up after cause it’s pointless to read those anime-covered chapters… it’s literally the same story…

So I put a manga on Completed when I finish it after watching the anime

I never do that. If I really like the anime adaptation, I'll always read the manga from the beginning to see their differences and the contents that are missed out.

I usually just reread the entirety of the manga for that certain series to see how the manga differs in comparison to its anime adaptation

Whenever I read manga of adaptations I found interesting, I start from where it ended.

However, I don’t usually read the source material from the adaptations, I prefer to read something that doesn’t have an adaptation because it feels more fresh and I don’t have to worry about if the show gets a second season that’s as good as the first.

BTW, just a fun fact of myself, every manga I read that got an adaptation afterwards turned out to be trash except for Horimiya, which you might or might not like, but there were close to no changes, and the changes/skips were good. I haven’t updated my manga list in ages, but believe me I’ve seen a ton of adaptations that made me want to cry

Wouldn't that be the same as marking the anime as "completed" if you've already read the manga, and know that the anime doesn't add stuff plot-wise?

It sounds like saying that you've read the book if you have just seen the movie.

Yes I don't see the point in starting all over again when in most cases the anime covered chapters tend to be pretty much the same.

Eh no for the simple fact that contrary to your example the manga add stuff plot-wise and is the continuation of the story started in the anime.

Yeah I do that most of the time. But if the anime was way rushed or pretty much trash, I start the manga from the beginning.

I mark it as complete, BUT I leave a note which states what chapter I started on the manga. For example, I mark AoT as complete (all chapters) but there's a note which states that I started reading the manga on chapter 91.

Yeah I do. I also did it in reverse with Boruto. I read the manga and then picked up the anime from where the manga was because it was starting the arc. I didn't watch 200 Boruto episodes, but put down what episode I was at.

It depends, if I extremely love the series then I'll read it first from the start to see comparisons and mark as complete. If not I usually check a random first chapters then continue where it left off mark it as complete after finishing.

I skimmed through My Dress Up Darling after the Anime ended and it didn't seem as though the Anime skipped anything so I just picked up where the Anime left off. If I was aware that the Anime skipped a lot of important information or changed the narrative/tone of the source, then I would start from the beginning.

I usually ask others' opinions first. If they say it's fine to pick up where the anime left off well... I guess I'll do that. I don't have any time to reread them and I already know what happened so yeah... I marked them as completed.

Agreed. I like to reread to see the differences and then I can appreciate the different mediums, you know?
