I said I am buying the volumes, so I'm not caught up to the end of the manga since english translation is not out yet and no I really did not expect a 13 episodes long season 1 to adapt the last chapter of 120+ chapter long manga lol, what is so shocking about that

As a standalone show almost perfect in what it tries to do, most importantly somehow this never really felt rushed despite actually having like two or three times the content compared to similar anime. Cramming so many things into so little time actually turned out well at some points as this didn't have the time to dwell on squishy cringey drama shit that happens all the time with this kind of show and quickly transitioned out of them, this made every episode feel fresher than most others

Still needed lots of skips apparently so probably would have annoyed a lot of manga readers but hey I'm not one of them

Predictably has that typical shoujo folly of having male characters behave really unrealistically but still, none of them were annoying, I liked pretty much all the characters which doesn't happen often at all

Lacks that artistic element that elevates the best shows above the rest, this was anime as entertainment first and foremost but it largely succeeds in that, enjoyed all the episodes and will give like a 7-8/10 I think

Of course this will do nothing for you if you're not the kind of person to be entertained by idealistic cute wholesome teen romcom but I'm of the kind and I would be really happy with a Horimiya every season even

Gave this a 4/10. CloverWorks gave this exactly the same treatment as The Promised Neverland S2 in that it rushed chapters 38-125 from episodes 8-13. However, only TPN S2 got all the outrage and wrath of the anime community. It's absolutely puzzling, though Horimiya covered up the rushing a bit better. However, anyone with keen perception could see that Miyamura instantly transformed from a still somewhat introverted person by the end of episode 7, to a complete social chad in the second half. He was just too perfect of a character, as the show really jumped the shark when Miyamura unconditionally forgave one of his middle school bullies.

Watch Real Girl instead. It's more abrasive, but a better show overall if you can get past its barebones animation quality. Having 24 eps instead of 13 really helped it. And you'll actually get multiple real on-screen romantic kisses! (All Horimiya had was Miyamura removing candy from Hori's mouth with his mouth, and it was played off as a joke.)

A usually amusing romantic comedy, with a rare actual conclusion, ultimately brought low by fairly terrible pacing.

It comes across as extremely rushed... particularly when compared to the previous adaptation.

Lesser issues would be the completely discordant (albeit thankfully short-lived) degradation kink and most of the side characters' relationship drama being overwrought.

This show went down from 8\10 to 5\10 just after first 5-6 eps meh
Started as a good and breaking the rules romance with characters who dont wait the whole season to hold hands BUT looks like creators didnt know what to do next and all those sub stories made this show to be boring

Why does Hori always punch and kick her father? she has no respect for her elder and Miyamura should be careful, because when she so easily disrespects her father, she will definitely disrespect him in the future.
The author probably did this for the sake of comedy, but it was really ugly

Anyway, it was an interesting anime 8/10

The Manga meanders for three quarters of that going no where and accomplishing nothing. The Anime is stronger for skipping and ignoring all the filler and fluff. It's the problem with anime/manga "Will they, won't they" romance stories that have the confession and couple form early on.

The mangaka didn't want to give up their golden goose so stretched it out well past its welcome. I was a manga reader.

Peak Horimiya is the orginal OVA.

Another Manga that suffers from the same sort of thing is Snow White with the Red Hair. They "Get together/confess/acknowledge" early and for the rest of the story (currently) you have zero stakes pablum.

With things like Spice and Wolf the romance is a secondary (but ever present) part of the story with more substance filling in the gaps. Similar thing with 3-gatsu.

When all you have is the riveting life of normal 3rd year high school seniors... you really can't tell compelling stories for 120 chapters about their third year... at least without even more annoying and manufactured drama that just makes you frustrated with the characters. (Second season Kimi Ni Todoke as an example)

After 12 great episodes, the last one was pretty weak imo. As much as I like the optimistic note that they will continue being together after graduation, I feel a bit too much time and effort went into it when we still had so many loose ends.
Nonetheless I'm gonne miss it a lot. It's rare for me to get attached to characters in 1-season anime, but damn, that was great cast.

Heart warming Finale, and Miyamura's monologue at the the end was precious, i'm so happy for both of them, too bad Tooru x Sakura Ship wasn't able to sail to the open ocean the'd be a cute couple, imo

It was enjoyable to see a development on each character especially Miyamura who's able to make friends despite his gloomy personality it was all because he met Hori which like the sun to his life and she will shine in his life forever and ever.

Overall score 8/10

Funny & fluffy, tho also like how some had questionable negative traits, like Remi, Yuki & Shuu, gives some balance.
Nice art, bit fast paced, some episodes feel like disjointed speed edits. Perhaps focus fewer characters/topic per episode. Still enjoyed how character relationships evolve & shift.
So Miyamura's parallel world chose this fate thanks to Souta. Really Souta's one of the best otouto's in anime, both in helpful cute personality & plot role.

Decent show: comfy first two-thirds, but glossing over too many things in the later third made it hard to get invested.

Overall would have been a better experience without the pesky fans trying to force perversion into the definition of wholesomeness.

Beautiful ending, I enjoyed the "what if" part a lot as well, but Miyamura saying all those sweet stuff about how much he appreciates having met Hori was cute.

Something to point out first is that I haven't read the manga before this (has been on PTW for years), so I can't compare it as an adaptation.
What I did see though was amazing. Honestly I really enjoyed this story all the way through, and I'm definitely gonna read the manga to get the cut parts as well.
The characters were great, including basically all the side ones as well, which is honestly quite rare. Apart from Sakura who I've found utterly boring the rest of the cast was always fun to watch. They all had really good chemistry and I liked that even the ones who haven't usually interacted did so later quite naturally. Hori's family, especially her father, Yuki and Tooru are noteable as well for having been a joy in basically every scene they appeared in. I also really liked that they made me appreciate characters who started out more antagonistic (Remi and Sengoku for example).
Of course the highlights were the main couple, who I wish would have had a bit more interactions, but seeing how many chapters they adapted it was quite okay. Their love for each other might have been rushed a bit at first, but it was adorable all the way through. It felt really fresh after seeing so many romance stuff plauged by love triangles, unnecessary forced drama and way too shy characters ("omg hand holding is too embarassing!" etc). I can't wait to see more of them in the manga as well. Hori's kink upset some people, I know, but honestly I just found that part hilarious as well, not to be taken too seriously. Neither the jealous moments of hers.

As for the negative, it is of course the length of the anime. While I couldn't compare it to the original, I could still feel that the pacing was often all over the place. Some emotional or dramatic scenes were cut abruptly to another different scene, and so on. It didn't feel natural enough quite often. Still, I do believe that they conveyed what they had to in this short amount of time, to impress even people who haven't yet read the manga, so that is commendable.
I wish it had gotten at least 24 episodes, or maybe just make the first half until they get together and then see if people like the anime enough to warrant a 2nd season, but I guess this is as much as they could get the budget for, so I can't complain much.

All in all I'm giving the anime a 9/10, but I honestly feel like it could have been a 10 if only it received more episodes, at least 24 if not more. If they could have fleshed out the characters (especially the main couple) and show their interactions more, this could have easily been a masterpiece. I have almost no doubt that the manga will receive a 10 from me if it's at least as good as this was. Can't wait to read that one.

Well, as an overall, it was solid good.

First half was better.

I remember the rushed scene when both Hori and Miyamura (supposdely) had their first (sex) time. That was very rushed specially coming from a romance anime... it was very dissapoiting.

The other couples and characters... hm, a bit of development but nothing very solid in the end.

After 13 episodes, the "what if" part was unnecessary in my opinion. I would totally pass.

By the way, about the proposal. It was kinda off because even though they are dating I didn´t feel like they were that advanced regarding their relationship. They are dating but the impression I have is that the connection between both don´t feel that strong (in my opinion).

---

7/10; I would surely recommend for those looking for romance without much comedy. Solid romance anime.

Kinda Agree though. Instead of making half commitment side characters arc, just focus more on the Hori&Miya. Let the Manga take care of the Side Character arcs.

That alternative world was almost scary to see, all of them doing their own thing unaware of what great friends these classmates/acquaintances could have been. Sometimes I wonder the same about my own life, but alas I'm also glad about the people that I am close to.

It really is a shame about the rushed adaptation though. I'm anime-only, but it did certainly feel way too contrived when certain characters were suddenly fooling around with others. Maybe just a handful more slice of life scenes could've helped the friendship progression gel better, but guess I'll go read the manga now.
I'm not a lolicon, you're just projecting your tendency to lewd 2D characters.

Great series, though the speed was a bit too fast and I wished there were more episodes just to see more detailed character development. Things happened a bit too fast and too smoothly I thought for Hori and Miyamura, but I guess for a 13 episodes series it is still quite decent. Would have been great to see more development for the other characters too, but they managed to squeeze it all in this short series, that’s pretty well done!

Now maybe I’ll get to the manga (didn’t know there’s one), maybe I’ll get the details I couldn’t in the anime there…

As someone who read the manga first I think they did a pretty solid adaptation.
For sure, the pacing is quite off in the anime but if you only have 13 episodes to work with that's bound to happen. Also I think the pacing in the manga would be hard to translate smoothly into an anime anyway since it's layout is so stop and start.

I think people take the fact that Hori hits Izumi way too seriously. She does it in a playful way, with no intention to actually hurt him. And I don't think she does hurt him either. It's kind of like how children pick on people they fancy. Granted, Hori is a high school student so it is pretty immature but I don't find it a big deal. Also there's debate that Izumi is bisexual? I don't know about that one. I would say everyone in this show seems pretty straight to me. You can admire how pretty someone is without being attracted to the opposite sex, which I think is what happens in this show.

This anime took the most drama filled parts of the manga and used them to make the anime. I don't think there's anything wrong with this but it does slightly change the overall feel of the story which I would argue is supposed to be more slice of life than anything else. The charm of the manga is its easy going cuteness and comedy, which has been swapped out for the drama of each character's backstory/love story.

All I have to say on the music is that it was completely forgettable which is unfortunate.

I gave the manga an 8/10 but the anime for me is a 7/10. I think if I hadn't read the manga the anime would have been a 6/10 which makes me think in some ways maybe this was targeted more at fans of the manga rather than new fans.

lol, world doesn't necessary revolve around you, Miyamura.. Many things happened without your influence.. How president started dating Remi, for example.. Or many other things you imagine..
Overall, anime gives me a strange feel in the end, I guess.. There are characters I liked.. As well as some topics touched.. But I also didn't like some of this anime messages, and some things weren't relatable.. In the end it's not a bad anime, but also I'd like to see more of some things that were touched, but not developed, instead of maybe some other ones which took screen time.. But it's my personal feeling.. Might seem I'm being negative here.. But really more in the end I'm unsure.. More than anything, really..
