Most of them. Probably. Idk. I'm just salty that people refuse to even try out my favourite anime, which happens to be a mecha show, simply because it has a mecha tag on it.

I'm sure there are other genres, like harem, yaoi/yuri, ecchi, dementia, horror, etc. which people miss out on because of their prejudices.

My first taste of Mecha was Code Geass then it kinda went from there when my friend at the time recommended SEED then 00 after I finished all of SEED/SEED Destiny. Its one of my favorite genres.

I'll watch Gurren Lagann probably after a few years though since me and long anime don't get along.

It really doesn't help that shit like Infinite Stratos and Guilty Crown have the mecha tag and are on the first page.

My stats for the mecha tagged anime I've watched.

Or maybe they just don't like the ones that get talked about the most. I don't like Evangelion, TTGL, or Code Geass. When others tell me they don't know the joys of Giant Gorg, I never hold it against them.

My first taste of full mecha was either Code Geass or MSG Iron Blooded Orphans, and I absoultely fell in love with the mecha genre. After that I have literally watched most of the major gundam anime, but I have still yet to watch Gundam titles like Turn A Gundam.

The only mecha anime I did not like was Neon Genesis Evangelion, but I liked most of what I have seen in Mecha

"I hate mecha, except for Code Geass, Gurren Lagann and Evangelion." is actually a more common statement.
They said that they hate mecha, but they still like 3 from 3 or 3 from 4 mecha anime they watched.

I watched code Geass, Gurren Lagann, Power Rangers,an old anime's 1st episode which was good but I forgot the name , revision, and anime where samurai gets alive again in modern world where he meets a girl from royal family and they bothe fight with aliens IN Robots. And I personally avoid mecha , I feel very cringed when I see the mechanics or robot geeks.

I have nothing against mecha, it’s just some of the more popular series are extremely long like Gundam and Macross so I don’t even know if I want to invest the time into them or not

I am kinda iffy about mecha, because I don't like two robots fighting. But I do like the contexts, the characters, the drama, the stories.

So the only part I dislike about mecha is mecha.

Anime was it's best 20000 years ago, when cavemen drew art with real depth.
Modern anime is all garbage. I miss great old days of anime.

To me it's really just another genre. It's not for everyone, but it's for more people than are giving it credit. Even people who like every single mecha they ever watch will often quit after just a couple series because "those are outliers because they're popular" even though they're probably more similar than they might expect.

Kinda weird making this thread after watching literally one title. Do you know how many mecha anime there are?
But yeah, people should watch more mecha aside from the three ultra-popular ones. Good take.

I have watched mecha anime and the only reason why I don't like mecha anime is simply because I hate watching stupid-ass robots flying around. I don't care how "good" the story is; the show is an insta-avoid for me if I see robots.

I love military shows/movies/anime but I prefer for them to be grounded and a bit realistic, like something I'd see in a modern warfare (not talking about the game) or a WW2 era.

My first Mecha anime was Knights of Sidonia, was a good one but I didn't feel like it intrested me as a mecha anime. My real intrest in mecha rose when I watched Gurren Lagann last year, it is probably one of the best things I have ever watched. Since then I tried getting into Gundam Franchise and loved majority of UC series (except Victory Gundam, it was just next level torture ngl).

I've seen a bit more good mecha anime than bad ones, but not really a whole lot. I think that you should try anything regardless of genre or preferences just to see if you like it.

I don't hate it, but I also don't particularly like it. I consider mecha to be among my least favorite genres. I've seen a good amount of it, and enjoyed several anime with the mecha tag, but just generally speaking, I have a really hard time getting into it, and staying interested. I don't know why, but that's always been the case for me. I guess I just don't get much out of giant robots fighting each other. The more robot or mobile suit fights a show has, the more I tend to be bored by it, though there have been exceptions.

That said, I'm never going to judge a whole show based on just its genre alone. If an anime looks like I'll enjoy it, and it happens to include mecha, I'm not going to refuse to even check it out just because of that.

If you're talking about Gurren Lagann, this show has been popular and generally well-liked since the day it premiered. I'm sure there are some people who won't check it out because it's mecha, and obviously not everyone who watched it is going to like it, but it has an 8.66 rating on MAL (and 50% of those ratings are a 9 or 10), and is on 1.2 million lists, including 800,000 completed. I don't think you need to worry about it.

OP, I see you haven't watched Gurren lagann movies yet. Both movies are great and are like Summary and alternative version of Original anime and contains some really cool extra fights. 2nd movie especially have really goated ending fight way better than original anime imo. Also some events play out differently (but doesn't change anything in plot). If you really liked Gurren Lagann you should definitely give movies a try, they are really great.

It’s weird. I don’t like robots, but most of the mecha anime I’ve seen I end up liking. Eureka Seven, Evangelion, gurren Laghan, Escaflowne, Code Geass, and Fullmetal Panic are all mechas I’ve enjoyed.

@OP, I'd say just as many of them have watched Code Geass and Darling In The Franx.

Robots flying around is boring but most mechas have a psychological angle which is what makes them interesting.

You seem like the type who'll say those who don't like One piece may not have even read a single chapter or caught up to the anime.
\You can say the same for those who didn't watch Yuri/yaoi right?
I've met quite a few who don't even touch mecha because it has robot fighting. It's understandable. The hate is similar to Yaoi/yuri.

and yes aot is a bio-mecha show.

I don't actively seek out Mecha anime, nor do I actively avoid it.

If the story sounds interesting to me, I'll consider watching it, being mecha doesn't affect that decision.
You're never too old to watch anime.
If I ever stop watching anime, check my pulse I'm likely dead.
