Sometimes I remember I said something embarrassing or annoying and then I think about it all day. How do you forget something you did that you can't stop thinking about?

Get absorbed into something.

Right now I'm playing WoW so I let myself be absorbed into it and forget my woes.

You can't choose to forget. Or at least that is what I think after trying for many years.

I used to have the same issue. I think it's an OCD type of thing...or something similar. The way I see it is like this. If it's really that bad, I could always just never go back there again. Maybe it's different if ur still in school or it's something dumb you did at work....but if I say something really dumb and make a fool of myself to someone, I could always just never talk to them again if it was that bad.

The other thing I realized is that no matter how bad you may believe something is, which is probably why you're thinking about it so much, it'll always blow over. So just don't go back for like a week and everyone will probably just forget about it. And if someone wants to bring it up...they're just a loser that's thinking about what ur doing. Happy people don't do that. Winners don't do that. Be a winner. Be like me.

Rambling a bit but I think you get the point.

Either I assure myself that those people don’t remember that bad memory because they have their own lives to worry about or I just take a bunch of sedatives.

Kinda just let time do its thing and find new people to connect with, or other things that actually are meaningful as a distraction.

In time things get easier and you grow as a person with experience.

Knock yourself out with a boxing glove
If life ain't just a joke
Then why are we laughing?

Then why am I dead?

Remember that in all likelihood you're the only one who still remembers that fuck up, so long as it was minor. We tend to be our biggest critics, literally no one else is going to scrutinize every little thing you do the way you yourself do.

Or get someone else to knock you out with a boxing glove. Either would work.

I usually respond to those memories/thoughts/triggers by saying "I'm going to kill myself" and then eventually it subsides and I go on with my day.

Well, the way I see it is, if you’re meant to remember something you’ll remember, if not then you’ll forget about it. I used to always worry if I had offended someone at my job, but after awhile it was pointless; if something I said really bugged someone they’ll bring it up again, if not then the past is past and I shouldn’t be worrying about it.

If you feel you said something silly, don’t worry, most things blow over by the end of the day, if not within the hour.

@_Nette_ I agree! If my mind is hyperactive nothing calms me down like doing something fun. I’ll watch anime, listen to music, play a game, whatevs... I used to be a HUGE WoW fan back in the day. Then anime came along and it took all my time away! Lol

If it's recent you could just do meditation and if it's particularly bad sleep deprivation after so the memories wont store as easily to long term memory though that is unhealthy to do too often .

I try to laugh about it with others instead of trying to ignore it. That helps that embarrassing incident lose its edge.

I've the same problem sometimes. I simply try to keep my mind busy by doing other things i like, for example listen to music.
