To put it simply, i like their anime content. I just watched the Anime Man's latest video about Mal data and the top pick from different countries. That was really interesting to see the different shows that various countries liked. Reviews from anitubers like Glass Reflection & Super Eyepatch Wolf are also very useful to me when researching shows to watch (and usually what to watch next from my ptw list). I like to get alternate perspectives on a show. I was also surprised by the level of hate some of these anitubers generate. The Trash Taste podcast is a bit of fun every week, although i can see why some people would label it as 'cringe'. |

If there's a particular type of anituber you're referring to you should probably mention it. Hate anitubers? Seems a bit harsh as a general statement. I guess some people do hate them, but I personally just don't give a crap about most anitubers. (The ones doing the reviews/breakdowns) If I want an in-depth breakdown opinion/review about a show, I'll watch the show and form my own. Just because someone on YT thinks a show/character is bland doesn't mean I will. My taste/preference for story pacing, character design or background art/detail aesthetics is my own, not what someone tells me it should be. I sometimes watch anitubers that list/give previews for upcoming shows (either by season or by genre) and give a basic plot summary, or the ones that identify what was left out/changed from the source material. As 99.9% anime only, I'm not one to know when an anime leaves out something from the source (although I know most do), so sometimes learning about what wasn't in the anime helps fill in some details that help some parts make more sense. So there are some good types of anitubers or types of anituber videos out there, it just depends on which you're referring to. |
You're never too old to watch anime. If I ever stop watching anime, check my pulse I'm likely dead. I wake up with coffee & anime, I go to sleep with coffee & anime. Sorry if my sarcasm is bad, it's not my first language. |

I personally love anitubers (and trash taste) because it represents the anime community in a big way and I don't think anime would be as big as it is to the English speaking audience without them (maybe too much exaggeration lol) Reasons I can think of is that the youtuber's opinions just aren't the same as the their own, or something like that, or some people can't take some jokes they say as a joke. But generally I don't think too many people hate them considering the like-dislike ratio they get on their videos |

It simple there videos may or may not be good. But most of there taste is shit and there bad mouth on anything other than their own taste (Are extremely baised). These are basically the reason for vote manipulation like in case of interspecies reviewers. Where do u think people learn words like elite anime or 13 year old's anime? I personally don't hate anitubers. But if there are people who hate them it should be expected. They are kind of major voices in anime community. But the voices they transmit are there own taste. So what did u expect? |

That's because their opinions on anime are bad. Normal Anitubers like AnimeMan and Gigguk are fine because they do other stuff like when AnimeMan rented a mother in Japan and Gigguk spent 1k on gacha games, those videos are fine. Although I do hate it when TheAnimeMan tries to be critical. On the other hand, we have people like Mother's Basement, in other words, major assholes. Mother's Basement's videos are cringy and mainstream pandering, even Crunchyroll's social media manager roasted his ass, I remember in one Tweet CR's twitter account tweeted to Mother's Basement, "Don't you have another SAO video to make?" That day, my respect for Crunchyroll's social media manager went up by 1. So yeah, you get the idea, AniTubers like Mother's Basement and Digi and cringepilled, they deserve all the hate that they get. |

I don't really care. Yeah I watch anitubers to know their opinion on a certain anime because I really like to see if my taste is similar or different. But that doesn't changes my opinion on that show. I just watch their videos for fun, not for judging something because they like/hate that particular show. And yeah it depends on the person I am watching. If he is funny, I'll like him if he's not then I don't know. |

the list is long. 1. they're not as funny as they think 2. they're only covering the newest hype things, because that's what generates views 3. they all have clickbait titles with the video itself being about something else 4. it's not enough that youtube throws ads at you (that you block) they themselves shill crap in the video. 5. they never dare to take a not popular stance. 6. they pride themselves as tastemakers, and unfortunately a lot of people learn about anime through them. you can see the way they parrot their lines and make topics they just heard about in the videos. 7. why watch something about anime if it's not even educational, when you can watch anime and have a better time? they're a waste of time. |

Because they are biased. They ignore blatant flaws in stuff they hype up for absolutely no reason, create dumb, idiotic videos about random crap, and try to make their followers just get along. Do you really think the V-tuber boom isn't affected by them at all? Most V-tubers suck. They just hide behind an anime avatar, and do anything that any other streamer does, yet they get much more praise because they are so "kawaii". They are also responsible for the dumb waifu culture. I have mentioned plenty of times that the waifu culture dumbs the anime as a medium down. Instead of focusing on plot, people are too busy adoring dumb shit like tits vs asses vs thighs, or who is the "best girl". Wanna hear something funny? Plenty of animes are successful primarly because of their female cast, and something even funnier - non of the female characters are written well. They are just made to appeal towards males with the false impression of "uwu I want a girlfriend like that now she is my waifu uwu". Also, they claim again and again how they don't have time to watch many animes because "there are so many good animes out there these days" when most animes released per season suck. They refuse to admit so many animes are blatant copies of previously established franchises, yet they label them as "good" because that's what the majority of their viewers would like to hear, thus creating this dumb impression how anime is great and everything related to the medium is just amazing when the average anime/manga/ln/novel is pure garbage and only select few had more than a few seconds dedicated to thinking about their plot, motives, characters and so on. All in all, anitubers are hot garbage. Instead of attempting to affect the anime community in a positive way, all they do is make some easy money off some people who look for justification for the fact they fap to hentai 24/7 and never talk about what could be improved to make the medium reach even a small fraction of its infinite potential. Also, they drag videos ENDLESSLY. Joey could literally cut 80% of the video and we would have the exact same content. He is just dragging it to A. make it seem like he really took his time and worked hard on his content, B. to make more revenue due to more activity in his channel, more ads per video and so on. Once again, anime shouldn't be for "degenerates", it shouldn't just focus on sex or dumb "who is the hottest/best girl" fantasies and it should sway from copying the same exact plot over and over and over and over and over. |

Wow, ok most of the replies here are only about popular anime youtubers (which make sense since this is kind of talking about joey). And I do agree that some of the stuff here is interesting (Though a lot of it's just either "They are cringe" which the op said not to do, or "They only look at popular anime" or even "They don't like the stuff I like and shit on it" First one is plain incorrect, sure they talk about popular shows. Usually because of the high demand. But this does not mean they 'only' talk about them. Hell Gigguk, apparently the normie king made a video on both Gankutsuou and kings avatar the first of which I hadn't even heard of. and for the shit talking... get over it.) Ok since people only seem to know the same 4 anitubers let me shill some smaller ones. https://www.youtube.com/c/TheCartoonCipher/featured He talks everything dubs. And if you are someone who thinks dubbing is a crime or just isn't interested he's got some cool videos on music. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVbpA94Zek3v6wZ8E2Dh60g This is a analysis channel with some opinion videos or such in it. Sometimes talks about popular stuff, but my favourite videos of his are his stuff on the smaller things, usually manga. I recommend his video on blame https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1weKErux4ac&t= https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdbweFq0BUw&t= an analysis channel that talks about a lot of things. Anime, manga, op's, ed's, certain scenes, and even specific ova's. I recommend this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdbweFq0BUw&t= Or you could just watch a video about a series you like. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCt_oFAUph4_8P3N_Xs-FGHg I know this is controversial, but, just shut up and watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bf8kE953aI Also watch supereyepatchwolf he's great |

I don't get the hate either to be completely honest. I don't think they are cringe. At least the Trash Taste crew isn't. They are entertaining and talk about topics I could actually be interested in. I've been watching Joey for years now and he comes off as a really nice guy and his videos are entertaining and guarantee a good time for me. I just think people like to spread unnecessary hate. It's okay to dislike something, but the extreme hate I sometimes encounter is concerning. |

See the thing is, it's understandable for certain people to not care about the way anitubers make their videos, I'm kind of one of those people. The only time I watch something related to anitubers is the Trash Taste podcast but still can't really watch any of The Anime Man or CDawgVA videos on their channel. What isn't understandable is when they get hate for that. What, because you don't like how someone decides to entertain people or because of an opinion they have, means they're suddenly worth hating? There's a difference between not liking someone's content and not liking someone because of their content. |

Adimus_prime said: This is inspired by the recent thread about The Anime Man that was made earlier. The responses to that thread were filled with so much unnecessary hate, toxicity, and vitriol. To the point were it completely ignored the question of the thread. Personally speaking I like a lot of anitubers they are harmless entertainment just like anime. I don't watch them because I need someone to follow there opinion. I watch them because I like the personality of the person behind the channel. Oh and let me nip this in the bud right now. Saying "BeCaUsE ThErE CrInGe" by itself is not a reason. At least explain why they are cringe because the word "cringe" has basically lost all meaning on the internet because of how loosely it is used. Just like words like overrated, underrated, pretentious, etc. As someone who dislike AniTubers very much I hope I can answer this question. Now I don't endorse any form of toxicity towards the AniTubers themselves or their fans. That's going too far. I simply dislike them, but other people are free to like them if they want. Now we can start with why I don't watch them in general. Mainly because most of them are shills that will take either two sides of animes in order to get views. What I mean is that they will either make a very controversial opinion, usually put that clearly in the title to garner views. Or they will take a extremely safe opinion that they know the masses will love. Because many who watch them feel better when they praise their favorite anime. Example being "One Piece good, SAO bad". That will resonate with a lot of people cause One Piece is so extremely popular and SAO is notorious for being a punching bag. I never once get a sense of their actual opinions. Then we have AniTubers who are actually causing toxicity. Nuxtaku being a prime example. Especially when he gathered his audience and bombarded Interspecies Reviewers on MAL. He knows full well that sending his audience of 1.7 million to bomb an anime, it will spiral out of control. And surprise, it did. His fans harassed a lot of people and he gave MAL staff a shitton of unnecessary work just so that he can feel good about himself. And his whole attitude about it is basically "lol haters be mad I don't give a shit". I have zero respect for him. And while we're on the topic of Nuxtaku, I can bring up how they all often use the same exact formula. Basically being controversial, overly sexual or safe opinions for validation. I can break down what I mean by each of these: Controversial - Making a controversial opinion into a full length video just for clicks. The most important thing here is to have the controversial opinion in the title. Having the content itself be controversial is optional. Either way works. Something like "The Berserk Manga is UGLY and BORING... LET'S FIGHT" (actual video by The Anime Man). Now just from reading the title you'll have a shitton of people with their pitchfork ready and click on the video. The actual content of the video is 30 minutes of unpopular opinions wherein only a very small fraction of that 30 minutes is actually about what the title said. And it wasn't even he who think so about Berserk, it's simply a quote from a unpopular opinion and his series is named "Let's Fight". He knows full well that he is misleading everyone who isn't a fan of him and they won't know that it's a series he makes. Overly sexual - Making their videos very sexual oriented to appeal to horny teenagers. Click bait and borderline pornographic thumbnail is common here. Example could be "I Showed Pornstars the WORST Rated Hentai Ever" (and yes this is an actual video by Nuxtaku and yes it has a borderline pornographic thumbnail). Safe opinion for validation - These will often fill up most of AniTubers videos. They basically just validate their audience favorite anime(s) by making very safe statements that will resonate with as large of an audience as possible. "Attack on Titan is Incredible Now" (actual video by Gigguk) could be a example. A lot of people like AoT, a lot of people want a massive Youtuber say it's good to feel like their opinion is validated. At least 5 million views guaranteed. Another thing is that AniTubers are basically making their audience's opinion for them. The way they construct their videos and messages makes it so that you almost have to agree with them otherwise you're stupid. I've talked with a lot of people about all types of animes. And there are so many of them who can't even form their own opinions. They're like NPCs. For instance, I talked with one about how I don't like AoT. And he barely gave any of his own opinions and just ended it with "Just watch this video by Gigguk and you'll understand why AoT is a masterpiece". And I can bring up one more thing that is more of an annoyance than actual reason to dislike them. But it is at least a small reason for why I don't watch them. Many tend to just talk about popular mainstream stuff. More than half of their videos will more than likely be about MHA, AoT, One Piece and so on or really any of the popular seasonals. And they don't even give a particular interesting insight. Like I mentioned before, they just have extremely safe opinions. Like saying AoT is a masterpiece and just using vague ways to explain why it is. Often just resorting to cool sounding terms like "Character development", "World building" or "Characterization" without elaborating. Since you brought up The Anime Man specifically I can focus on him a bit now. As you may have noticed, he too falls into these traps. A lot of his recent videos are overly sexual with borderline pornographic thumbnails to appeal to a horny audience (A TON of AniTubers do the same, so he's not even original in the slightest). A lot of his recent videos are just focusing on extremely popular and mainstream stuff. I mean his video about what he'll be watching this season is pretty much just what animes are airing this season sorted by popularity. He falls into the controversial point too since Redo of Healer is every AniTuber's favorite cow to milk for cash right now. Really when it comes to AniTuber, there's almost no originality. They all use the exact same formula for views. If someone uploads a new video today I feel like I've already watched that video 10 times over due to how lacking it is in originality. Hope this at least give you some insight to why people might not like them. |

it seems like there are three types of anitubers: 1. Those who produce comedy videos ( sketches, scandal anime like boku no pico and street interviews ) These might come off as cringe and unfunny, especially if there target audience consists of 13-16 year old teens. 2. Those who are only focused on the latest shonen ( power-level, hype and theory-wise) Irritating or uninteresting if you dislike shonen, in addition the hypetrain is an easy cashgrab - some only do it for the money and put less effort in it than others. 3. Those who make essays and analyses and really in-depth videos ( can also be shonen but much more sophisticated) These can be received as smug or drawn out. I feel like all of them can be entertaining but also really annoying, depending on your taste. I don't believe that hate is the correct term, rather disinterest. At the end of the day, it may be more fun to watch actual anime than someone talking about it. |

I don't like anitubers because I don't like their content or them as people. Gigguk's videos never feel genuine, and it comes across as manipulative. The Anime Man is what most people would call an elitist, but people give him a pass because he likes a bunch of mainstream anime. Digi is an asshole who doesn't know as much as he thinks. Mother's basement is a soy boy who doesn't know as much as he thinks. Eyepatch wolf makes everything overdramatic. Scamboli's attempts at jokes are cringe-tastic |

Damn I am seeing a lot of hate for anitubers in this thread. I personally like anitubers for the same reason I like normal youtubers. Their personality. Although there is only a few I follow religiously, I also watch a lot of anime youtube videos if it's on a topic I am interested in. I watch review channels like chibi and ah brandon(he is an underrated one) after an episode of re zero, aot, mushoku, etc. comes out and I want to hear their thoughts on the episode. I sometimes watch reaction channels to see people's reaction to certain anime scenes though most of them are forced. The only two who seem genuine to me are son wu and Ivory. I don't get why people dislike them. If you watch a video on a anime you like and they praise the anime, it is satisfying to listen to. |

The hate stems from a lot of them being critical and people disagreeing with there critics. Yes, it doesn't take a genius to realize that most of the time Mother's basement is a legitimate idiot who has no clue what he's talking about, but he's still entitled to his own opinion. It's disagreement that causes hate. As for the more casual and comedic people it's usually due to being cringe and boring. My reasoning has always been simple. I feel for myself they add absolutely nothing to my enjoyment of anime. If its social media I fucking hate it, bunch of inflated ego jack asses who think they are important because 12 year olds like their videos or what the fuck ever. I despise "like" culture when profit and celebrity is involved. Has created a society of people numb, searching for their next cute cat meme not paying attention to the world or hyper sensitive to everything because its everywhere you look on social media and they cant seemingly form their own thoughts because they are absorbing everyone elses. When it comes to youtube I just get nothing out of it. I am capable of forming my own opinions and coming to my own conclusions. I dont hate them I just think they are useless and their videos are stupid drivel. I dont care if people watch them but I have met people who have seen a few hundred episodes of anime but talk about youtubers who talk about anime and feel they know everything because some popular youtuber said something catchy. Between anime, manga and LNs I dont really take in much other entertainment other than a few TV shows. That is the long answer. Short answer is. I dont enjoy anime youtubers from what I have seen and I had to force myself to see what was out there. I just want to watch anime. I can form my own nerdy opinions I dont need to watch them tell theirs, I wont care about it what so ever. |

Alot of them feed off of drama and are toxic. Even the ones that act like they're only toxic to toxic people like Nux say things like "If you dont like One Pieces art style you need to grow up". I watch some sometimes to hear people give opinions with reasoning behind them to why they like or dislike anime but I wouldnt say I've seen one that's just a good guy that I would want to support or watch all the time but I havent seen too much. If their videos arent well supported by a legitimate argument, they're a shady person in real life, or they say things like "your opinion is wrong and you're stupid" unironically then I'm not interested. Have different opinions but talk about why. You can be jokingly toxic but when you're actually insulting people because they dont like what you do you're a trash person and I'm not spending my time on you. |

I think anime fans don't hate anitubers enough. I heard anime TikTok is pretty cringe, but imo it can't compare to anitubers. |

What makes them the scum of the earth to you? Like I don't understand how you can hate anitubers and be an active person on forums talking about anime. Since it is borderline the same shit one is just in video form and the other isn't.I think anime fans don't hate anitubers enough. I heard anime TikTok is pretty cringe, but imo it can't compare to anitubers. It really feel weird to me to see a lot of people cringe or hate on anime TikTok and not on youtube when Youtube is essentially worse than TikTok. The bunch of dudes begging for attention in a video format overly edited with unnatural cuts and weird sound effects. Sorry, I cannot stand this. The difference with the forum is that here we don't have discrimination. Everyone is on a equal step and we are being judged by our opinions and there's actually some interaction. Which is the complete opposite on the youtube format. Extreme discrimination depending on your amount of subscribers. No interaction whatsoever since the comment section on youtube is incredibly toxic and there's no chance you can actually discuss with the youtuber. The youtuber has a brigade of fans that will protect them at all cost and will probably execute anything they would told them to do. Not every youtuber is malicious, but knowing they could potentially cause a drama even unintentionally is really disturbing. I don't mind their opinions at all. It's the platform and the entire organization that treats these special people as something else than regular people that disturb me. Trust me, if the same youtube treatment were to apply to regular users around here then I wouldn't stay here at all. |

I like KenKen, but theres some creators that are just really disrespectful when they go to akihabara and their channels are all focused on trying to become viral memes and making hentai jokes every minute. |
