What kind of franchise fan are you?

Not really just an anime discussion tho.

But if you're a certain franchise fan, do you tend to dig deeper into source material? or not?

Pick one (or many) of your top favorite franchise/series

Mine:

I'm more into "dig-deeping" fan of Re:Zero. I can read light novels, mangas, and anything source material. Light novel is more fun than manga for me, although I can say reading manga is easy-to-understand visually. When I watch the anime adaptation, I tend to think critically about the difference between the source material and anime version of it.

Of course, I know most spoilers on what will be going to happen in anime adaptation.

How about you? What kind of fan are you?

I like to dig deep if I really like an anime. I loved shingeki no kyoji anime so I went to read the main manga, some spinoffs etc.

"Dip-deeping" of fan Re:zero here as well, I have read the web novel and surprisingly despite knowing all of the spoilers, I'm still able to fully enjoy the anime which is great. It's fun to see how the anime adaptation handles the source material and so far its a 10/10 for me x3

I also tend to dip-deep into AOT and Kaguya-sama, as these two are among my favs.

Anime-only.
I ruined Shingeki no Kyojin by being impatient and reading the manga.s3 part 2 would have been a 10 for me if I haven't read the source material. The part with Erwin was divided into two episodes and it didn't feel impactful to me in the anime as compared to manga. It was only because I knew what was gonna happen.

I will wait 10 years for a sequel than reading the manga.Unless the anime adaptation is complete shit.

I guess it's kinda situational...
For example, Yuki Yuna is a Hero is fine, but I don't care about the series enough to check out the prequel/sequel light novels.
But for the most part I do dig deep into series I love. I've watched Madoka Magica, but I also own the manga adaptation of both the TV show and the Rebellion movie as well as the spin-off/companion story The Different Story, and have read several of the series' various spin-off manga. Prétear is not bad, just good, but I liked it enough to go out of my way to own both the original manga and the anime adaptation.
I guess you can say I can be very dedicated...

If I started a franchise with anime, I tend to stick with the anime.
Except when I heard that anime adaptation didn't do justice to the manga or other source material. Or when the probability of anime sequel to adapt that franchise completely is virtually nonexistent.
I also tend to avoid LN or VN by the way, the list of LN and VN that I read is small, most of them bored me (I love reading novel in general, but most LN and VN pace are too slow to my taste), I am more a manga fan.

I think I'm leaning towards anime-only, but it's more of "whatever source I was exposed first" only.

I am a fan of Key, so at first I watched all the anime made by Key at the time I discovered about them (through Angel Beats), so I watched Angel Beats, Clannad+After Story, Kanon and Air. Even then I don't watch everything. Kanon, Air and Clannad had several versions of the anime, but I only watched the ones produced by Kyoto Animation, plus the Clannad movie. After that I dug deep into studio Key, and played their latest VN at the time: Little Busters! When Little Busters! anime aired, I didn't watch it until 8 years later. I also played Rewrite's visual novel, but I don't have any plan to watch the anime.

When I like an anime and wants to continue into the manga, I tend to skip the parts I've watched. If I read the manga first, I don't even bother with the anime in most cases.

If I think the anime is very good/super trash, I read the manga alongside it just to see what all they changed in the adaptation that made it better/worse. Don't do it with all anime though, only the ones at the extreme end of my critical spectrum.
This anime shit is addictive

While anime marketing around franchises has hugely improved over the years with the internet many newer series take more advantage of marketing and discussions rather than quality, in order to leap out of the hundreds of similar franchises that struggle for recognition. I got used to previous marketing methods were in order for a series to leave Japan, it had to be good, even at 13 episodes later on.

I'd invest in manga perhaps, but there is no way I can buy and store 30+ volumes.

anime and tv shows in general are my favorite medium, which means i will always prefer to watch the anime than read the manga, light novel or the book.

however, it also really depends on the series itself. if the source material is a game such as a visual novel then i will prefer the play the game than watch the anime. because games let you experience a story in a complete different way and most of the time it's not translated well into an anime.

in most cases before i watch something i check out what the source material is, if it's a game i will think twice before watching an adaption that may or may not be a good representation of it. but long story short: i usually stick to the anime and don't dig any deeper.

I might look for some pics, porn or figurines but that’s it. Most of the time I don’t and I might be just looking for pics, porn or figures in general and spot a character that I recognise from a show that I’ve watched. Or the other way I might start watching a show and recognise a character from a pic, porn or a figurine.

I have never read a manga I don’t even know where people get them outside of conventions. I did read some comic books growing up and novels but none of them were anime related.

I'm a dig-deeping fan. Whenever I see an anime or anything related to the series interesting, I'll read the source material whether it be light novels, manga, visual novels or games. Well since I started my journey by reading a manga, I became that fan from the start.

After 50 light novels completed I’m fairly certain I’m a “dig deeper” fan of Toaru Majutsu no Index. Most series’ I end up just sticking with the anime though. Sure I might want to continue but source material can take a ridiculous amount of time to get through, and I’d rather be doing other things in that time

Pretty much anime only.
I don't like reading that much...

I do like games, but surprisingly I hardly play any anime-related games.

Honestly, both are applicable for me cause it depends on how much I have been moved or got attached to the anime itself.
If I am moved or touched then I go on digging and digging otherwise just leave it as it is. And finish them by reading the last 2 to 3 chapters.

If I do enjoy a show a lot I will probably read the manga or something. I have read all of JoJo and I do keep up with the lore. Also I do the same for Kengan Ashura but I am more active in that fandom since the manga gets updated more often. I do try to analyze characters and compare them to others in terms of power for shows based on action

Dig-deeping fan if the source material is a manga, anime-only fan if it's a novel.
Who are you and why do you show your hostility towards a complete stranger whom you've not once spoken with before. Are you seriously asking to get blocked? Well, if that's what your intent is; to tempt me into throwing hands with someone as lowly and insignificant as you, then i may grant your wish provided you articulate yourself a bit better when trying to spite a person of my wavelength.

I do a bit of both depending on if I liked the anime enough to want to read the manga. There has only been certain animes that I've read the manga for, such as Black Clover, One-Punch Man, and Ah! My Goddess.

Most of the time I'm anime only fan, but if I'm in the mood I can go read some manga. I don't read light novels because English is not my first language so I have trouble comprehending some words. Too lazy to look up for the words meaning, and it ruins the fun for me. Maybe if I want to read light novel, it needs to be a real book that I can hold not just some words on the screen.

Sometimes the anime would miss out some important parts of the original source material and it would just feel incomplete. That's when I turn to the manga to be able to better see and understand what is happening, as it would also show the different characters' perspectives.

Anime-only but sometimes I tend to delve into the manga afterwards like with JoJo, Ranma 1/2 and some other ones, but NOT before watching the anime, I did that in the past with the likes of Bleach and AoT and I didn't like it, it ruined their anime and made them somewhat meh, so I'm never doing that again. Sometimes I read only from where the anime left, tho, like I did with Slam Dunk and GTO.

I did this "dig deeping" with Kyo Kara Maoh, I dug in so deep I'm sure I would reach the other side of the Earth - I've got like 90% of all the stuff that was ever published or made including tiny articles from various magazines (the remaining 10% is so obscure it's impossible to find unless, maybe, you live in Japan), even got involved with translations. I still have 50 GB worth of files lying around on my external storage and that's excluding all the anime episodes. But in the end the disappointment with this series was so huge I don't want to ever do it with any other series. I still love Conrad though ♥

Now I don't really bother going to the source material, I do read manga but the ones I read usually don't have adaptations. If I really liked some series and feel like it then I may check of drama CDs or stage plays but that's very rare.

Dig-deeping fan. When I find a series I really like I go higher levels of pathetic obsessed nerd. At best/worse it doesn't end at consuming source material and what ever spin off shit, I go and search useless small stuff and little facts. Like when I was young teenager I watched Pokémon first season in so many different dubs I can't fathom how I ever even had that kind of time. But I prefer reading so more likely I'm going to read the story first, if able, and then watch the adaptation.

I only watch the TV series. If the anime is above and beyond my expectations, I may watch its OVA, ONA, Specials, Movies, if it has any.

I usually don't mind anime that are connected through:
Side stories
Alternative versions
Alternative settings
Characters

So I watch them occasionally, even ONA series, that have been added as sequels or prequels to TV anime I have seen.

really depends on the franchise i guess
if i like a part of it a lot, it may not be inherently because of the concept so much as some particular piece (the animator/director/etc), so i'd be less excited to go looking

that said, i've delved fairly deep into devilman

However if i hear that an adaptation isn't that good in terms with following the story i will decide to read the manga or light novel if i am really into it. So far though I've only did this for one series but probably will be more in the future.

Anime only, I don't want to ruin a great experience with shitty manga, books etc, downgrading from animation. Only impatient clowns think black and white drawings with a couple of scribbled lines, is any good.

I tried it once with One Punch Man, lol, never again.....
