AH, AAAAAHHHHHH THAT WAS FREAKING GREAT. I don't know why, but the fact that everyone basically hates everyone and do what in today's society would be deemed racist is hilarious to me and I just love watching it. God damn this is gonna my top anime for the season for sure. And that opening!

okay but...this is actually so good? when pv came out a few months ago i was doubting that anyone OTHER than furries (which now i feel bad about bc i know i shouldn't judge a book by its cover) would watch this but god damn the the ed,the OST just slap so hard and the story seems so interesting too??

this is who made the houseki no kuni,so ofc the CGI is actually really good i cant even say anything bad about it

will keep watching bc this is good

I really like how on top of the usual high school dynamic, there's a whole other level with them also being animals. The herbivore/carnivore ecosystem coming into play, alongside animal hierarchy and school social standing. It's an interesting premise.
I liked the funky ed as well.

I wish they would have post-processed the voices so that they'd sound more "alien" and animal-like, because so far the voice actors sounded too human to be believable animals. I guess it'd be too difficult to post-process everything since this anime has only animals but still... They could find some way out, though - in video games it's easier to achieve the appropriate voices for animals because of games having less voice-work - Solatorobo, for example. As an option, they could have made two versions of this anime: one with voices and no post-processing and one without any voices (!) but with stylized subtitles. I think that would be an interesting experiment and would fit this anime perfectly.

Anyways, it seemed like a regular drama type of anime and if you take away the animals - it's nothing too special. I'll have to drop... I'm glad someone else enjoys it.

Oh, and CGI seemed ok.

You, my man, can't be more wrong. If this was your typical nothing-too-special show it wouldn't have won as many awards as it did. This show is going to blow your mind as it goes on. I'm up to date with the manga (ch148) and it still never ceases to amaze me. You will never expect where the story goes from here, and each twist and turns will continue to surprise you. This isn't just a drama show, it's way more than that. The story doesn't limit to their school life either.

Also, if you're complaining about the voice, I'm assuming you hate Zootopia for it too.

Quite nice. At first I thought it would just be a metaphor of conforming students vs. nonconforming students, but then it seems that we got herbivore acting as the bad ones and the carnivore acting as the good ones too. It is also interesting to see complicated dynamic between social hierarchy vs. biological/physical hierarchy.

I'm looking forward to see how the worldbuilding is gonna be developed. I hope it will be more than just typical teen drama (bullying, etc.) with a furry appearance. The CG animation is pretty good.

Without spoiling you anything, i can assure you you're worrying for nothing. Their story isn't limited to their school life, it gets wayyyy more and out there than that. And it's not teen drama more like real world issues. It gets very dark, and realistic. These kids have to deal with things no kids should ever deal with (especially poor louis... sigh)

The characters are nice, the CGI fits well, but the fuckin school setting bores me. Why not do this in a big town like zootopia only keep the 1940s setting. Still better than any of the garbage that's to come.
well you're definitely gonna love what's to come if u hatw the school setting

i know ur probably a troll but I'll give u the benefit of the doubt. I love zootopia and it'sa great movie, but this show deals with far mature and darker themes. Zootopia is a kid show, and beastars is an adult show. The fanboy inside me wants to say beastars is far superior but i don't want to provoke any hardcore zootopia fans so I'll keep it to myself :)

As someone who reads and likes the manga alot this was a alright first episode. I'm just not a fan of CGI that said it looks fine could have been worse it comes down to getting used to it i guess.

Jazz OST is definitely welcome, also i did like that a certain joke was made this episode that foreshadows a event that will happen, i'm curious if this is also present in the manga as its somthing you can easily miss if you consume it for the first time.
I'm assuming ur talking about the "eat my curse away"? (Keeping it ambiguous to avoid spoiling anyone)

So much, much better looking than I thought it was gonna be! Looking forward to Studio Oranges future anime. But we have learnt that Louis is a jerk.
louis is actually not a jerk XD he's just forced to keep up that image because he's a herbivore and he doesn't want to look weak. He becomes a super bro to legosi as the story goes on (like super best bro). Looking forward to ur thoughts on the later episodes ^^

Holy. Freaking. Crap. I'm not even into furry-esque art, but the style and vibe that this anime presents itself with is so different, weird, quirky and clever.

I'm not familiar with the source material of this anime.

I just watched the first episode. And I sat through all 22 minutes with a huge smile. There are LITTLE anime that follow such a unique, distinct production style -- or at least little that I've seen produced in the past two years.

I really admire that the animals look a little creepy, and not super-bishie-wolfie-whatever the heck Deviantart puts out there these days.
The jazz, the directing, the hierarchy of the animal kingdom mushed into a bunch of drama kids.. certainly different. Me likey.

I'm not sure why this anime is getting below 8.00 at the moment, but I feel as if it's because there's nothing familiar about it.

A friend kept badgering me to watch this and I finally did. Never would I have imagined it would be this interesting. The CGI looks good, the atmopshere and the soundtrack are stellar. Feels like I'm watching a darker, more mature version of Zootopia. Legosi is a very interesting MC so far.

Looking forward to the next episode!

Designs gota get used to.
Good VAs, interesting dialogue & some suspense keeps the school more fresh than usual. Some similar elements to zootopia but might diverge from from that detective film, since there's a lot of potential, already showing many group conflicts - class status, endangered species, herbivores concern, all while Legosi, bunny etc each have personal issues to deal with.

Should i get used of it? Because however i watch this, i imagine all of them as a human being. I imagine all of their human faces based on their each personality. IE, i always imagine Louis The Deer as an 'ikemen' protagonist from shoujo manga. Somehow, i feel weird because of it. I am okay with animal personification but it seems on another level.

Oh boy, Just you wait for later on, Louis is one bad ass mofo. Not as cool as the doctor though

Obviously, it reminded me of Zootopia. I will give this a chance.

I understand that this story would have lost its meaning without furry, but I personally feel sorry that this story is not about people. However, although I did not expect this at all, I rather liked the first two episodes. It feels like someone put together Zootopia and seinen school dramas a-la Mary Okada.

Seems solid so far, the CG animation takes a bit to get used to. Btw why is this Louis guy so popular when he is openly species-ist.

So, herbivore vs carnivore. Bullying, identity crisis and judging by appearances.

It was ok.
All weebs creatures of the galaxy, hear this message. Those of you who listen will not be struck by western animation. You will no longer know hunger, nor pain. Your Anime have come to lead you now.
