as the title suggests. i'd like suggestions of shows with well-done tsundere characters (f/m, whatever) because i'm trying to fill a personal quota :3

but also what's your opinion on what makes a great tsundere great other than the fact that they are, indeed, a tsundere

A good tsundere has a reason why he/she is one and being one isn't his/her only major characteristic. For those and a couple of other reasons Senjougahara from Monogatari is the best one I've seen yet.

Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai has two great tsundere main characters.
The main characters in Kaguya-sama are a lot more psychological; both are in love with each other but are too proud of themselves to say it, so they try to make the other person admit their love first. It's great.

I actually don't like Tsundere characters that much. I guess that as long as they aren't abusive, stereotypical, bland, and dense to the point of being annoying, they'll be good.

Makise Kurisu is a well done female tsundere from Steins;Gate.

on the other end

Edward Elric is a well done male tsundere from Fullmetal Alchemist

Both are intelligent, highly skilled in their field, strong willed, not physically abusive for whatever shitty reason, more realistic approach to their character, at least decent development, and don't follow the traditional tsundere limitations that most other shows with tsunderes have (more dimensional)

Soryu Asuka Langley is the best I guess coz hers is such a complex and broken character and how she uses "tsundere-attitude" as an escape route.

Ok... but what I dont really get is... Senjougahara isnt really a tsundere. They make a joke of it and say "shes a tsundere" in the show, but she hasnt really shown characteristics of being a tsundere. If she wanted something she usually asked straight out. Not danced around the subject and then called Araragi baka.

My Criteria for a good tsundere?

1. The reason behind their outer shell. It's nice when there's an interesting reason behind who they are beyond simply acting mean because they think they need to uphold a reputation (even if it means not being liked) or because of the hypothetical possibility of being hurt.

2. Their inner core is actually sweet. The point of the tsundere is a tough or cold outer core with a warm and nice one in the middle. I kind of feel sorry for an interest when they reach the inner core, but are being treated the exact same way but this time it's endearing?

3. Worth the trouble. Realistically, couples try, but sometimes we can't always split the work of a relationship 50/50. Sometimes it's 80/20, and other times, it's 30/70. I like seeing the fluctuations so it's nice to see the tsundere putting in work as well as opposed to always getting their needs met.

My favorite tsundere right now is Aki Adagaki.

michiru matsushima is definitely the best tsundere, although you'll need to read the visual novel for her to be a good character because the anime adaptation is pretty bad.. so i'll say haruhi

This
and Kurisu is very kind and sweet. She actually went out of her way making the mad scientist pose to cheer Okabe up. People who don't mind doing embarrassing things are rare. Gotta love them.

i hadn't thought of that before but that's a good point. she's aggressive and cold at times but there's not really the element of shyness/reclusiveness that stops her from being vulnerable and truly speaking her feelings, she's very passionate and straightforward. hmmmmm

As a relatively unknown opinion, I would throw the best tsundere tag at Yasaka Mahiro from Haiyore Nyaruko san.

It's an alright parody show where he exhibits all the tropes of a standard tsundere chick, and does it arguably better than them with the aggressiveness toned down to a 6/10 on the "tsundere" volume knob.

I... really don't see Senjougahara as a tsundere. Like, at all. Sure she's more affectionate some times than others, but she never even tries to deny that she's head-over-heels for Arararagi. More of a yandere then anything, to be honest.

They have to have a well developed backstory as to why they act that way. If they act like bitches for no reason or have an incredibly generic one, then they are not even classified as tsunderes. They are known as TRASH.
But most importantly, they need to have a god-tier blush. Its probably the most rewarding feeling you'll ever have after watching her beat the shit out of the mc for most of the show.
My top 5 Tsunderes
1.Haruhi Suzumiya
2.Hitagi Senjogahara
3.Misaka Mikoto
4.Rin Tohsaka
5.Asuka Langley Souryuu

See I actually found that premise super dumb and it’s put me off from watching the show. “Love is war, I can’t admit it I hve to make the other person admit it!”

That’s just so profoundly stupid and childish to me. I would say it’s more akin to arrogance or selfishness than pride or love. Being afraid to confess is one thing, this is a whole different ball park.

On topic, my favorite tsunder I’ve seen is Taiga from Toradora because she has a background/home life that makes her social shortcomings seam realistic and not just thrown in to fill a “dere” fetish. I’ve met plenty of people who acted out or didn’t learn proper social interaction because their parents ignored them. She also undergoes a lot of character development over the course of the show so she has a fair amount of depth.

Other tsunders I’ve enjoyed are Mihari from Mangaka-San, and the one in saikano, but Kato was better.

Worst Tsunders are Sakura-trash and the blonde from Nisekoi. Nisekoi ftl.
Lolicons are scum.
BABYMETAL is more metal than Metallica.
Naruto is objectively the best anime ever.
HxH 99' is decent. HxH 11' is bad.

I think a great tsundere is simply:

1) 3 dimensional in complexity.
2) Has a good reason for being a tsundere.

Kotori from from Date A Live and Kurusu from Steins; Gate I feel are very natural tsunderes, even if Kotori's a bit exaggerated. However, Kotori being a tsundere towards her older brother makes sense; because that's how actual little sisters are; they pretend they don't love their sibling when deep down they do.

What's with people calling Senjougahara a tsundere? she's a kuudere with some mild yandere tendencies.
Anyways for Tsundere's that are worth the trouble its definitely Kaguya/Iceguya and Maki Shijo from Kaguya-sama and Misaka from ToAru. I have a bit of bias for Minami from Baka Test but thats only because of the story setting that makes me forgive her excessive tsundere antics and actually find it adorable, and just for gender equality... Vegeta from DBZ.

Makise Kurisu from Steins;Gate. I think she's the quintessential tsundere to the point where it totally defines her and thus makes her a little boring in my eyes, but no question she's the tsundere against which all others should be judged.

Lin Xianming from Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens even though he's a crossdressing hitman dude. Fascinating character where the tsundere behaviour isn't overwhelming and actually adds some depth.

Rin Matsuoka is a top tier tsundere and you can’t tell me otherwise. Most of his tsun actions are stemmed from his self-hatred and regret with a little hint of ambition in there too. It felt so rewarding to see him warm up to everyone again.

Also I’ll make a case for my boi Yuri Plisetsky because he is an adorkable fool who cares so much about what he does. Only problem is that he’s trash at talking about his feelings. Also he’s got a smile to die for.
