The anime adaptation of the 7 Seeds manga will receive a second season on Netflix. Included in the official website's announcement Monday was a new trailer and key visual (pictured) for the season, which is set to stream in 2020.

The staff and cast will return for the second season, led by director Yukio Takahashi and animation studio Gonzo. The only key addition is an additional production credit for Studio Kai, a new studio founded by Gonzo at the end of July.

The official website also announced a television run for the first season starting in January 2020. The 12-episode season has streamed on Netflix since June 28.

Synopsis
In the immediate future, a giant meteorite has collided with earth. All living organisms, including mankind, have been wiped off the face of the planet. The government, who had foreseen this outcome, took measures to counter the worst-case scenario. In particular was Project "7SEEDS," in which five sets of seven young men and women were carefully selected and placed into teams (Spring, Summer A, Summer B, Autumn and Winter). Each participant was then put under cryogenic sleep in hopes of preserving the continued existence of mankind.

When those men and women awoke, they found themselves suddenly thrust into a cruel world. While bereft and grieved over forever losing their loved ones, they sought to find ways to survive. (Source: MU)

The 7 Seeds manga was penned by Yumi Tamura over a span of 16 years, beginning in Betsucomi magazine and a year later switching to Monthly Flowers for the remainder of its serialization. The 35th and final volume was released in August 2017.

I'll just read the manga instead. Recommend others to do the same.

I had given season 1 a 7/10, and said that if it looks like it won't get a second season, I'd decrease its score. Today, I was planning to decrease the score, and I ended up seeing this news. lol!

That was my first thought, too. The manga is one of my favorites, but I didn't even bother watching the anime because I only ever saw people hating it.

Oh boy, thanks Netflix for finally giving that other half of that chopped in half anime in the middle of an action scene.

Why was that good for anyway? For not loosing as much money? By the looks of it, it was indeed only intended for that purpose.

Well that sounds about right, I still hoped for them to produce a sequel considering it was marketed as an original but it’s probably not very likely as a substantial amount of time had already passed. Anyway thanks for the reply and have a nice day!

It will have to be way better than the first season and like 20+ episodes. I'm usually quite tolerant but everything was so rushed without any real substance to the story or the characters. Too bad since the main idea is pretty good.

Well, the first season ends with a terrible cliffhanger, it will probably still be as bad as the first season but I will watch it anyway.

It won't happen. Not only because Children of Whales was out on TV but Netflix isn't funding any of those anime regrdless of what people put on the producer list on MAL. Their only funding anime is one that will have 4 episodes and will be out next year

I gave up with the first season, it was so rushed and I got bored of it. They didn't seem to give the characters any substance, so I couldn't even recall any of their names. Been told the manga is great though, so might check it out instead.

I really shouldn't be surprised. It's like Netflix has this disease where they preemptively make two seasons of an anime and they don't have enough self-awareness to realize how bad both the show and their decision to make two seasons of it is.

Only watched the first 3 episodes of season 1, but I was ahead in the manga. Watching the trailer for the new season, I'm pretty hyped even if they butcher the character development, especially with Ango :^)

I just finished watching this anime recently. It's a great news since the first season ended up in a cliffhanger. I was hoping that the new season would lift up since the first season became boring and dull. I'm not fond of watching manga, so the next season will be answering my question "What would happen to Hana?".

After how much they have butchered the manga with the first season...Please no.

Like, please, just give up. The manga was extraordinary and captivating. This sad excuse of an adaptation was absolutely atrocious. No. Just no.

Looking forward to it, but tbh I expected a second season since the first batch was already released as 'Part 1' and the final episode ended on such a cliffhanger. Still good to have it confirmed, I quite enjoyed what I've seen so far.
I probably regret this post by now.
