https://www.npr.org/2019/04/11/712455980/a-bill-banning-most-abortions-becomes-law-in-ohio

Welp, Ohio has done it...under this new law, any and ALL abortions are now ILLEGAL in Ohio once a heartbeat is detected in a fetus.

And you may say...”what’s bad about that” ....well, thanks to ultrasound technology a heartbeat can be detected as early as 5 weeks into a pregnancy...and MANY women are not even aware they’re pregnant that early.

Furthermore the bill doesn’t say anything about women who become pregnant due to rape or incest...so those women can be forced to give birth to an unwanted child.

But the REAL purpose of doing this is to FORCE the opposition to challenge this new law (which they probably will) which means this will more than likely be heading to the Supreme Court.

And as many Americans know...Trump put super Conservative Kavanagh in the Supreme Court...meaning that Conservatives have the tie-breaking vote to END Roe v. Wade.

Basically what is more than likely going to happen is that Abortions in the U.S are going to become illegal.

@American_Women....you’re FUCKED! And you can thank Trump.

@American_Men...you better wrap that shit up son!

I dunno, maybe there can be certain states that are hardline anti-abortion.

The country is way too polarized for a one size fits all approach.

LOL, very true.

The majority of people who get Abortions are also poor women since they don’t want the burden of paying for a child which is SUPER expensive.

So not only will we have MORE minorities in the country, we’ll have more poor kids, more welfare recipients...

I’m sure the Right-Wing will love that.

And what will happen to Women who DO get an Abortion with some back-alley doctor?

Is she gonna be tried for Murder?

What a joke this is...Imagine how fucked up this has the potential to be.

Thanks Trump, truly this will make America great Again.

The state should be able to decide their own legislation. Good on Ohio for respecting their rights as a state and not kowtowing to the demands from carpetbaggers, journalists, and other plants.

Yeah ok...

States have to follow the Constitution no matter what, The Who point of Roe v. Wade is that it was deemed unconstitutional to force women to go through a pregnancy if they didn’t want to.

The key issue is that before a fetus reaches “viability” the Woman should have the RIGHT to do with her body as she deems fit.

In other words it was Unconstitutional to give an unviable fetus more rights that the mother.

But now, because Republicans and Anti-Abortion people don’t give a fuck about the actual laws...they think they can do as they want...clearly this new heartbeat bill goes against Roe v. Wade and clearly what Ohio Republicans want is to force the Supreme Court to once again rule on that case.

This is NOT about States Rights.

At least laws can always be reversed and it may still wind up blocked.

There may be a loophole here too. Due to how they can still do an abortion if if the life of the expecting is at risk a suicide from having a baby they can not handle may be considered a risk to life.

Abortion has always been very controversial...I believe most women struggle very deeply as to whether or not to go through with it.

Either way...I’m VERY glad I’m not a woman, because being forced to go through a pregnancy must suck especially if you don’t want it.

Which mean abortions can still take place at the zygote stage actually because zygotes don't have heartbeats.

also this threads going to get locked so fast. because this is one of the most controversial topics on any website.

I agree. I'm sure it's far from an easy decision for a lot of them, and a really easy one for also a lot of them, I've seen this with some people I know irl. I'm still not a fan of it though.

Or maybe, maybe it's our nowhere towns or our nothing places

There is no extreme other side really. A foetus can't really be considered conscious untill around 21 weeks at earliest. At that point the only time you really see abortions is if the expecting's life is at risk or the foetus had already died and other things like that. I suppose in theory there may be some people that get abortions that late for other reasons but I haven't really heard of them happening commonly in the US. It wouldn't be too much an issue if 21 weeks banned and exceptions were allowed for medical reasons and cases of rape. I don't think there would be many people opposed to that if they had all the info aside from those seeing it unnecessary since people already basically follow that as is.

The bill outlaws abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected, which doctors say can be as early as five weeks into pregnancy, before many women know they are pregnant.

The law makes no exceptions for pregnancies resulting from rape or incest.

https://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow/la-na-pol-ohio-abortion-heartbeat-20190411-story.html

the law is unconstitutional and will be challenged. for sanity's sake, it will hopefully be struck down.

So the bill doesn't have the generally accepted exemptions.
It really just comes down to an emotional appeal and not what is actually best for people and society. The intent is purely self indulgent.
That and wanting to challenge the constitutionality of abortion in the case of those in power.

This legal battle has been brewing on since late last year--a extreme legislative rebuttal to NY and Virginia own legislation on the topic. Eventually something will go to a court, not sure if pushing it like this will mean SCOTUS will listen; certainly means the courts will watch atleast.

as someone who doesn't live in America all I can say is "yikes... thank god I don't live there"

I mean, the thing about abortion is I can understand the controversy of it- but not when I think abortions are morally sound:
- if a women has been raped
-incest
-under the age of consent
-unable to afford a child
-dangerous for a women to give birth
-the child is extermely disabled (life would be painful)
-child is already dead inside the womb

I mean, the more I think about it, the worse it get. there are so many reasonable causes that make women get abortions... its sad that they cant.

that's... a lot easier said than done. what counts as poor? when will this "poor" person be allowed to have kids? is it how much money should they have? is it just finance or whether not they live in "poor" conditions? what if they already have kids before this law of yours is made? whats going to happen if they have kids anyway? will they get a fine? they probably couldnt afford it. will the child be taken off them? into care? the childs going to have a care life in care! will they shit.

To me at least, it should be a case by case basis. Some individual responsibility needs to be taken over your own body and that includes getting yourself in the kind of situation where you have to resort to such a solution.

It's at that rate in part because of the availability of abortion to terminate pregnancies. The rate of maternal mortality has been increasing for decades in the US. Cutting off access to abortion sure will not help that.
https://www.nationalgeographic.com/culture/2018/12/maternal-mortality-usa-health-motherhood/
https://m.acog.org/About-ACOG/ACOG-Departments/Government-Relations-and-Outreach/Federal-Legislative-Activities/Maternal-Mortality

Compairing it to walking to a toilet is nonsense. For one thing everyone that isn't crippled walks. For another it's something done daily from infancy to old age. Child birth happens only with girls/women and only a few times in their entire life.

if i got pregnant u bet i'd be saying "screw them kids" and getting an abortion
unless one of you is willing to adopt it?
ah that's right, too many people care about some cells than the millions of kids in the foster care system that we know is already problematic enough... let's just add more kids to it by getting rid of abortion all together!

Compairing it to walking to a toilet is nonsense. For one thing everyone that isn't crippled walks. For another it's something done daily from infancy to old age. Child birth happens only with girls/women and only a few times in their entire life.
You might need to read how averages work

The more frequent the occurrence of an event with risk the higher proportion of people it can negatively effect in their lifetime because each additional time is it's own risk. Walking is done daily. Pregnancy is not.

You still don't understand high percentage works. Roughly one in 15,000 trips to the toilet will result in a serious accident, 1 in 15,000 pregnancies will have significant complications frequency of the event doesn't matter. Using that as an excuse for pro abortion is simply a strawman argument.

If there's genuine health risk then sure abortion should be an option but let's not pretend it makes up the majority of abortions. Abortion is far too widely used as a convenient out for should be parents but if youre fine with killing childern, I guess you will be defending gun rights the next time a kid shoots up a school. I find both disgusting.

You said you're more likely to die while walking to the toilet than die in childbirth. You were who brought it up. You cited not a single source for that claim to begin with all while using it as an argument against abortion. Now you're saying they are equally dangerous with the numbers you made up. If we went with the numbers and method of measure you gave right now it still supports my point that in a persons life they make more trips to the toilet than they give birth so their lifetime death rate from walking will be higher even if the per event rate is same. They don't record statistics for accodent related deaths that way on a per event basis.

Unlike schoolchildren a feotus has no will because they have no conciousness thus no personhood. It's completely incapable of even the most simplistic functional brain activity untill 21 weeks development. Just about every abortion in the US happens long before then and those at that point and after are because of pregnancy complications.

Did you ask for them before calling a lair? Which i don't appreciate btw, how about you do some research before you endorse child killing mate!

Also the first sign of brain activity in a fetus is 5-6 weeks no idea where you get 21 weeks for the most simplistic activity its simply not true. Babys born between 21-24 weeks can srurvive in the modern age but their not human right??

I CAN'T BELIEVE SOMEONE ACTUALLY BROUGHT UP THE "MUH CLUSTER OF CELLS" THING I MENTIONED BEFORE

What a joke of a world. You should look up some videos or pictures of abortions. Pretty interesting to look at those clusters of cells.

Besides who the hell are you to terminate a human life because it inconveniences you? And yes it's a life by definition, you don't get to decide when a life counts as a life and when it doesn't. Next time use a condom.

Now I can already see the replies. "MUH RAPE". That's an incredibly low amount of abortions compared to simply not taking responsibility for fucking without a condom.

But you do?

Next time use a condom.

Wait, how is a woman suppose to use a condom?

Neither do I. No one gets to decide which life counts and which doesn't, they all count.

Not the woman, the man. The woman can take a pill if she so desires.
