If Bon Clay was more of a logical person I'm sure he could have put trust in Luffy and moved on his own to save Ace for Luffy's sake. His ability to disguise himself and his incredible strength and technique goes a long way. If he wasn't so emotionally fueled he could have tried to save Ace himself and possibly freed him. That said, I can't say doing that would have been the Bon Clay way, and it would have made for a weaker climax. For him to refuse to let his friend suffer alone and to push himself hard to join in the fight with him is admirable in the cheesy, to the point Bon Clay spirit. He's doing it for Luffy and he moved everyone else to cheer for him for hours too. It's pretty endearing.
I loved how Bon Clay called Crocodile "Zero-chan". That was adorable, I really want to see him interact with Crocodile to further understand their relationship. I also loved how he said that him and Luffy are proof anyone can become friends!
Ivan's power is super cool. It requires a point blank stab but he could also stab himself and grow himself super big and strong potentially. His head may be that big for a reason lol! It feels as long as he could stab someone he could take them down, or like we saw bring them back up as long as they're willing to fight like Luffy was. It's really no surprise though, the way I see it Ivan altered Luffy's hormones to fully allow tortuous battle with his poison so his immune system could beat it out of him with force, and if you truly give Luffy the tools to win he will use them to win, no matter what comes his way, and in the most forceful manner ever. He is one strong boy and I got to say that's perfect. Plus Ivan's personality of being hopefully cruel is charming. He knows that he has to put things up to chance and he doesn't fight that at all, nor does he accept every single hurt prisoner he sees. Yet, he maintains an incredible respect for the value of human life.
Still, just eating to refill his fatigue and give him energy back can't be enough. He was in immense pain and eating several days worth of food cannot heal someone back to their fullest can it.. I have to imagine he's still going to be weak going forward. But, maybe I'm underestimating Luffy. Perhaps being made of rubber implies all he needs to keep going is some energy and nothing absolutely tearing into him at the moment. Still, his insides cannot be looking too good.
So, there's quite a bit else to mention but I'll break it into two key things.
Firstly, Shiryu the rain and a lot of other big strong guys were introduced and we learned why level 6 didn't seem like that snowy icy land we saw before. It also makes sense for Magellan to lie to Hancock about it, they don't want to expose the secret floor for what it is, its there to keep the government's reputation afloat.
Secondly, Ace had a really wonderful moment here. It was a powerful performance from his voice actor. Jimbei is trying to convince Ace to put Hancock's words off as a lie but that seems to be impossible. For, why would she lie to him about that, this kind of reckless behavior for the people he loves is something he's done since they were small, and Hancock told him 'he didn't want to rescue you because he thought you'd be mad about it', something only Luffy would say and know. Of course there's no way that was a lie.. And and the pain and worry on his face and in his voice, "bakaaaaaa", were so evident that it moved me. I liked how we saw both worry about each other more than themselves. :) |
