Before I even say anything, I'm going to definitely clarify that I'm not some filter-feeding blowfish in my mother's basement that brings around a cotton-polyester object with my waifu printed on it whenever I step outside. I think we can agree that those people are a bit much.

However, I would like to say that I honestly think that females that can be found in anime are better than females that can be found in real life. I'm going to address the one obvious issue: your waifu is not real. This is a very good point. However, I'd like to make the argument that whenever people read a good book, they get connected with the characters that they find in that book and make a very slight emotional investment in that book. A well-written book will have characters that can come off as human, characters that you can feel you resonate with. That's why people get sad when one of their favorite characters in a book dies, when the character makes a decision that was totally opposite their previously established personalities, or just in general do something completely stupid.

As you can assume, this can apply to anime as well. A mangaka (or light novel creator) can create a world of his choosing, a world without the faults of the actual world that we live in, and as such, he can also create characters that don't have the faults that all regular humans at some point succumb to. This is big, because real-life humans have a lot of flaws that anime characters do not (unless that's explicitly their purpose in being): infidelity, incompatibility, lack of availability, standards, appearance, and unfortunately, mortality.

People like to say that some things are stupid in real life and would be better left in the land of fiction. Take for example Yuno from Future Diary. This simply would not fly in real life, and if I knew a girl like that, it'd be time to move to Canada, because nothing bad ever happens in Canada. However, anime has made it possible to take completely unattractive turn-off qualities like these and make them entertaining at least. And I bet there were some viewers out there who at least thought for a moment that they would like a GF on that level of devotion.

Could I get some thoughts on this topic? I'd like to know what people would think about opinions like these.

fictional characters are ideals or meant to be perfect anyway and as you said we tend to personify them if the story is written well so yes i agree

the only major downside is that you are missing physical contact with those fictional characters

Woah careful there. Saying that anime doesn't have to be 1000% realistic is gonna trigger a lot of folks here

anime characters aren't real means they aren't real people and you can't compare the two

a character is something the author decides to write on a sheet of paper, a few personnality traits and a story to follow
it's literally like a npc in a video game

meanwhile real people have super complicated mindsets that evolve all the time depending on their experiences and also take into account what they want/need first unlike anime characters which are usually following the story/MC at all cost because of some japanese old man fantasy

you can't even compare the two without sounding dumb as fuck
one is a real and living human making choices all the time
the other one is a scripted event

Well of course 2D is better because the artists literally draw the girls to be perfect (at least subjectively to a target demographic) whereas that's obviously not the case with 3D.

I think he's talking more about the characters personality. He's saying that a character created in an anime can be made near perfect without the flaws of a person IRL. Take characters like Yuno or Hanekawa, they are completely devoted and obsessed. You're not going to find many girls like that in real life.

I would personally love a girl like that though.

So this is just about liking characters and not what the meme shames. Well, duh. You'll never have the perfect person, but you can write perfect characters.

That's not necessarily the case. To me, character flaws add flair and uniqueness to characterisation and make them more interesting to watch. In cases where depiction of idealised characteristics have narrative value like in Monster or Sakamoto-san I'm fine with but otherwise I would consider it bad writing.

Of course 2D is better than 3D, they're written to be far more likeable, even when they have flaws.
Who are you and why do you show your hostility towards a complete stranger whom you've not once spoken with before. Are you seriously asking to get blocked? Well, if that's what your intent is; to tempt me into throwing hands with someone as lowly and insignificant as you, then i may grant your wish provided you articulate yourself a bit better when trying to spite a person of my wavelength.

If you ask me, 2D is cannot represent how beautiful girls are irl. Any women around 50 yo or less can turn me on probably (of course, if they suit my taste). Sexually 3D > 2D all the way.

BUT if we talk about personality is a bit grey. The 2D waifus are designed to suit some taste and of course they are going to be appealing. They are the ideal of a girl that only have eyes for you (Of course, if we are not talking about NTR) even if she is the sluttiest girl ever and she would never betray you. Of course that anybody can fall in love with them, they are meant for that.

And if you are an insecure dude that "loyalty" is even more important, that's one of the reasons why idols need to act like virgins in a pedestal imo.

I was thinking of a girl more like Hanekawa and a lot less like Yuno. I absolutely would devote everything to Hanekawa, she's perfect. Can't see myself getting tired of her either.

Yuno is caaa - RAZYYY. Just ask Yuki from Mirai Nikki, she made his life a living hell, but at least brought some excitement into it. As for Hanekawa, if Araragi wasn't a vampire, the dude would have been killed instantly from that cat lick. I guess what we need to understand is that anime is not telling you to embrace this shit, in fact it is giving us reasons and warnings to STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM THESE PSYCHOS!

Seeing as 2D is created as perfect beings who cater to us and whatnot...I suppose you’re right.

But seeing as you can’t really interact with 2D the way most would really want...I’d say it’s lacking.

2D and 3D to me are about the same, pretty much personalities are everywhere. It's just a matter of dreaming someone perfect and that can be found more from fictions than in real life. So probably yes when you're wishing to be done with real life, shut yourself in and live in your dream world. In one way it's not healthy, but in another if you're gonna be a writer I hope you're a good one and not Reki Kawahara.

For some reason I thought that this will be "CGI vs drawn waifus" thread. Good to be wrong sometimes.
I'm watching anime since 2012. I also play games, sometimes.

Don't bother me if you want to 'become friends' or things like that.
It's tiresome. I know you just want to collect some meaningless numbers.
Thought: How many people sparked H. Charlotta just for blue pot?

I value loyalty, but idol culture is not my cup of tea. 2D features can be to the exact form of a ideal without flaws in most cases.
Eg

2d personality like someone mentioned above is meant to portray a ideal that does not exist.
2d is better than 3d in those regards.

I prefer 2D over 3D.

But to be honest it depends on what type of people you interact with. You really can't just dismiss the 3D people and say they're unironically better. Both are good depends on what people you dealing with.

if i’m bein real here, of course anime girls are gonna be more appealing than real ones, because a lot of the time anime girls are written with the sole purpose of being cute and likeable and nothing else. i mean come on, how many popular waifus are ACTUALLY good characters
