Just Natsume's Book of Feels and Hibike! season 2. That's more than enough shows for me. I know what I'm getting. Not placing my bets on surprises or anime obviously made for meme purposes, though Gundam IBO is still a black box for me.

It's halfway trough the season, so here are my thoughts about the anime I'm watching :-)

  • Brave Witches - It's enjoyable to watch with occasional fan-service. Something between 6 and 7.
  • Bubuki Buranki: Hoshi no Kyojin - Definitely better than the first half of the season. But not enough to give it a higher score. 7/10.
  • Bungou Stray Dogs 2nd Season - Again, better than the first half of the season. So far an 8 but might go up to 9.
  • Gi(a)rlish Number - When I started watching it, I thought it would be only CGDCT. While it still is CGDCT, it's also a great comedy with really good characters (especially the female MC). Easily an 8 and might go up to 9 :-)
  • Keijo!!!!!!!! - I wish some normal anime had this animation quality. It's really disquieting that pure fan-service anime has better animation quality than most of other anime this season. I don't really know how to score it yet. So far something between 7 and 8.
  • Kiitarou Shounen no Youkai Enikki - Quite funny short anime. It made me laugh but there's hardly any continuous story. So far a 6 but it might go up to 7.
  • Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku - This and Gi(a)rlish Number are probably the two most underrated anime of this season. It's a really dark approach to the Mahou Shoujo genre, but comparing it to Madoka or Yuki Yuna would not be fair. It's not psychological and thought-provoking as Madoka nor it is mysterious as Yuki Yuna, but rather depressing and brutal. It's still censored (it airs on TV, so it have to) but you can imagine a lot of scenes going off screen based on reactions of the characters and the sound-effects. Easily an 8 and it might go up to 9.
  • Occultic;Nine - I don't understand how this anime can have such low score. It's not on Steins;Gate level (but it seems it might get there) and the pacing of first episode might be a bit too fast, but the story right now start to look really great and other aspects of the anime does not look so bad. For me it's an 8 so far and I hope the score can only go up.
  • Okusama ga Seitokaichou!+! - My second guilty pleasure this season (after Keijo!!!!!!!!). And the uncensored version on Crunchyroll is great :-) Something between 7 and 8.
  • Shuumatsu no Izetta - I absolutely love alternate world settings, so this anime is totally into my liking :-) Very realistically recreated WW2 with a bit of magic. So far an 8. Oh, and the soundtrack is simply amazing.
  • Soushin Shoujo Matoi - An original Mahou Shoujo by White Fox. It had really great start with a lot of potential. While it still has potential to be much better, I fear they would not be able to bring it out. So far a 7, but might as well go up to 8.
  • Stella no Mahou - Typical CGDCT anime. Very good comedy and really enjoyable to watch. 7/10.
  • Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari - Calm and relaxing Slice of Life anime :-) It's especially great if you watch it after Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku. 8/10

Finally watched at least one episode from each anime I planned to watch this season.

  • Akiba's Trip The Animation - not the best anime ever, but still enjoyable. I'm wondering why it is R-rated. The first episode had some violence and blood, but not that much it would be R-rated (and if it was all, it could easily be censored). So I expect it to get darker in the future.
  • Fuuka - I'm reading the manga, and if anime reaches the best part of it, it would be great :-)
  • Gabriel DropOut - this one wasn't on my initial PTW list for this season. But I saw a gif from it on 9gag and I had to give it a chance. And I'm not disappointed. This anime has demonic angels and angelic demons :-)
  • Hand Shakers - anime with the most "unique" animation and art-style. It's too soon to say if it's going to be good or bad.
  • Idol Jihen (Idol Incidents) - this one also wasn't on my initial PTW list, but I gave it a chance when I saw that Crunchyroll got it and it's available in Poland. So far nothing really good, but neither really bad.
  • Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! 2 - it's hard to believe that one year passed since KonoSuba S1. Comedy is IMO even better than in the first season, but this DEEN animation quality... at times it's even worse than in the first season.
  • Kuzu no Honkai (Scum's Wish) - dark horse of this season. I'm reading the manga, and it's really, really good, but the anime is even better. It's rare to see adaptation better than source material. Possible AOTS
  • Little Witch Academia (TV) - what can I say. Trigger is back with 25 episode of Litte Witch Academia. First episode wasn't the strongest of all first episodes this season, but it was solid good and put the story into motion.
  • Masamune-kun no Revenge - school RomCom that gives me vibes from OreGairu and ReLIFE. I hope I won't be disappointed when it ends.
  • Rewrite: Moon and Terra - first episode was better than most of the first season. It's hard to say where the story will go, but I'm eager to see more.
  • Seiren - another RomCom this season and this one is pretty decent. Nothing I haven't seen before, but it still made me laugh.
  • Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu: Sukeroku Futatabi-hen - second season of Rakugo and it's already great. This is an example that DEEN can make visually appealing anime when they put some effort into it. Possible AOTS.
  • Tales of Zestiria the X 2nd Season - Ufotable. Everything should be obvious but to explain: amazing animation and soundtrack, good characters and story.
  • Urara Meirochou - this will be my CGDCT anime of this season :-)
  • Youjo Senki (Saga of Tanya the Evil) - I expect it to be somehow good, but this good. First episode wasn't anything special, but the second one added whole new level to story and Tanya character. If it continues like this, it would be one of my favourite from this season.
  • ēlDLIVE - probably the weakest first episode I've seen this season. I need to see more to have valid opinion about it.

I'm only watching one season anime this season (mostly cause I have too much one my plate with the anime challenge) and that is Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Fujouou-hen.

It's really interesting so far and a great continuation from the first season.

Finally watched a few eps of each seasonal I picked this season. I had to make a few cuts in order to keep down to a more reasonable number and focus more on my backlog. So I decided to put Rewrite: Moon & Terra and Youjo Senki onto my backlog. I did watch one episode of Youjo Senki and it seems interesting but I decided on others. On the uphand, I've made good progress on Hunter x Hunter 2011 and have just hit the 100 ep mark. Total I've got 8 (though I meant to only have 7) on deck, and surprisingly all but maybe 2 of them are comedies.

Anyway, here we go with my initial impressions:

Akiba's Trip: So this is an anime based on a game where you run around stripping people who are aliens(?) in disguise. The anime itself is lighthearted, fun, and has some pretty nice animation. The main characters are enjoyable, and despite the premise revolving around stripping it doesn't feel as gratuitous as your standard ecchi anime. As a bonus they seem to be using different songs for the ending every episode from actual J-pop and idol groups, so if you're into that or just curious its a good sampler.

elDLIVE: Honestly I'm 3 eps in and this still hasn't impressed me as much as I hoped. Loner middle school boy is hired by space police with super powers. He has a symbiotic alien attached to himself that only he can see and hear, which explains his constant appearance of talking to himself, and that gives him the requisite powers to join. Unfortunately despite everyone on the police force (including the girl from school he likes) knowing this, he still gets treated like a weirdo for talking to himself, and gets in trouble for trying to silence or correct his alien partner since everyone can only hear his side so he looks like a constant perv. This is less funny and more annoying than they were hoping for if you ask me. I hope this series turns around but at this point I wish I would have stuck this on the back burner and kept with Youjo Senki instead. In fact, if this doesn't start getting decent by ep 5 I might just drop it entirely.

Demi-chan wa Kataritai: Demi-humans are real but rare (and apparently can just be born into normal families?) and one teacher wants to research them. Luckily his school is full of them, and they're all girls. I acutally really like this series. There hasn't been any ecchi scenes so far, so it's not taking that easy ratings route, and the MC doesn't have romantic feelings for any of the girls (though some of them have crushes on him) other than perhaps the succubus, who is a fellow teacher. It's kind of a SoL comedy that gives the cast monster traits to deal with.

Gabriel DropOut: A comedy in which angels and demons must journey to the human world after graduating from their respective angel/demon schools and attend human school as some kind of trial. This follows Gabriel, top of her class angel, who immediately falls into the lure of MMOs and becomes a selfish shut-in. The second in class angel turns into a sadist who enjoys toying with people, while the 2 demons include a clueless idiot who thinks not doing homework is the ultimate evil act and a legitimately nice and helpful girl. Hijinks ensue. It's a fun show and I actually feel bad for Satania most of the time.

Granblue Fantasy: I actually thought this was pushed back a season but suddenly 2 eps were available back to back. It seems like standard JRPG fantasy (probably because it's based on one), but I like the detail and design of the armor and airships. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be being released or subbed on a regular schedule, so I've only seen 2 eps so far. If it remains unreliable in release, I might but it back on the backlog and wait for it to complete.

Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon: Another comedy anime with a host of characters. This one's themed around dragons. For some reason Tohru, a traditional medieval dragon, falls in love with the MC and decides to be her maid. Then other dragons start showing up in human-ish form and hanging around. I'm not sure how these various different types of dragons fit into the world, or if they're from a parallel world (might be confusing translation), but they try to explain things a bit at a time as Tohru and Kobayashi talk. It's a fun show and watching a dragon try to understand and fit in to city life is a good recipe for humor.

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! 2: Who doesn't love Konosuba? I knew I'd be watching this as soon as I heard it was coming. Just as good as the first season, though I wish they'd get Darkness back soon.

Nanbaka 2017: A direct continuation of the first season. It's still funny but they're still focused heavily on the almost out-of-place dark plot of the mysterious human experimentors.

A few eps in so here are my seasonals. There were a LOT of interesting titles this season so it was very hard to narrow down to the ones I wanted to keep up with vs what was going on my backlog. Some shows like Atom: The Beginning and Alice to Zouroku were tough to put on the backlog but overall I'm happy with the ones I've chosen. I'm actually glad Kekkai Sensen & Beyond was pushed back since it freed up a slot for me. Anyway, here's what I'm watching:

Clockwork Planet: I was really interested in the setting of this one. At first many of the characters felt disappointing, although they''ve started to grow on me a bit. Hopefully they'll continue to improve and the concept won't be wasted.

Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka Gaiden: Sword Oratoria: Holy long titles, Batman! I think they were in some kind of competition with the people behind Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasu ka? Isogashii desu ka? Sukutte Moratte Ii desu ka? for who could make the most needlessly long title of the season, but I digress. I liked the original show, so I had to pick up the spin-off/side story. Like most spin-offs, it's not quite as good as the original. Ais is so stoic she's hard to focus so much of a story around and the new fangirl MC Lefiya is thus far simply incompetent and not in a likable way. It is nice to see some familiar situations from a different perspective at least. Still hopeful that this will improve.

Granblue Fantasy: This is one I had picked up last season as they released a couple episodes months ago. It's fairly enjoyable fantasy and since I've never played the game I don't have to worry about getting upset over character and event details not being 100% accurate. I do enjoy a lot of the supporting cast and Gran manages not to be a typical clueless idiot or unstoppable hero that plagues so many JRPG and anime protagonists as he recognizes danger, listens to his more experienced allies, and fights at a believable skill level for the most part.

Quan Zhi Gao Shou: A Chinese anime all about the competitive side of MMOs. This got swapped in once I found out Kekkai Sensen wasn't out this season. It has a clean, sharp look and the action is quick (even if completely unbelievable of a real MMO). The few characters outside of the game are believable and don't feel flat. My only issue is the sound quality, which makes my headphones sound like they're dying during the opening and any action scenes involving loud music and/or explosions. I've tried different headsets and different sites, so I feel confident blaming that on the anime.

Re:Creators: Even among stiff competition from the returning Attack on Titan and other shows, this might be my favorite of the season. Games, anime, and other media created by humans result in the birth of their own worlds, and characters who become popular enough are somehow pulled into the "real" world and attempt to find their creators to influence their worlds. It's a cool concept, the art is good, characters are for the most part strong (aside from the MC, who more or less lives in the background at this point buying food and helping facilitate meetings between creations and creators), and a cool opening theme send this to the top of my list.

Renai Boukun: A comedy about a cupid with a "Kiss Note" and an obsession with boy's love. Throw in some unconventional love interests including a sadist and a psycho yandere surrounding a now-immortal MC and you have a refreshingly unique, if not somewhat dark, harem anime.

Shingeki no Kyojin season 2: The long-awaited return of Attack on Titan. What really needs to be said? The only complaint I have is that I'm confused on the timeline a bit. I think it's supposed to be taking place immediately after the events of season 1, with the exposed titan face in the wall, but many of the characters from the first season are being herded around, trained, and protected by other soldiers, referred to as cadets, and not having or being allowed any of their gear or weapons. These were all fully-fledged soldiers who fought off and killed many titans on their own, so why are they being treated like new recruits? Maybe I'm missing something or misremembering things since the first season was so long ago. Still fantastic in spite of this.

Zero kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho: You don't see a lot of anime with fully anthropomorphic characters. Another fantasy anime, this one has normal humans, witches, and beastfallen, who all seem to have varying levels of animosity toward the other groups. Here we follow a beastfallen and two witches as they travel between human towns of varied size and outlook against them, for reasons. I like the show and the main trio; it has a laid back feel, I just hope they get the plot moving soon.

For non-seasonals, I've decided to try and reduce my backlog by burning through OVAs, specials, and some shorter series before tackling another long-runner.

Any recommendations for upcoming Summer 2017?

I have only six anime on my PTW list. Six more would be optimal, but can be as many as fourteen (for a total of twenty).

According to our anime lists we only have 97 shared and 0% affinity, so my suggestions might not mean much. But there are a couple on your PTW for this summer that I was interested in as well, so I'll just put a couple suggestions out there from my PTW.

Shoukoku no Altair
Made in Abyss
The Reflection

Affinity is based on how we scored common anime, and since you didn't give a score to any, the affinity is "unknown" :-)

Added Made in Abyss to my PTW list. The Reflection was already there as I'm interested in what will Stan Lee create.

I didn't realize that about affinity, but that's good to know. I had a couple others on my PTW but wasn't sure about suggesting them since the "anticipation threads" for both have some strong reservations about the studios, writers, etc. so they might turn out pretty disappointing.

Princess Principal and Centaur no Nayami if you're curious.

The setting for Princess Principal is damn intriguing - added to PTW :-)

I was going to write that I don't have high expectations for it, but then I checked the studio and noticed they also made Flip Flappers (I haven't seen it yet, but I heard great things about it). Now I'm officially hooked :-)

As for Centaur no Nayami, I don't know if I want to watch another monster-girls anime.

Overall I liked Flip Flappers. It was wild and fun and had great animation, I was only a little let down by the final battle and there were some points in the series that I felt a little lost due to its tendency to begin in the middle of another adventure. Still recommended so it's good to know some people from that will be working on Princess Principal.

I totally understand not wanting to jump into another monster girls anime considering Demi-chan was just last season and this seems very similar (but with more physically obvious traits).

Spring 2017 season is almost complete so it seems to be a good moment to post my seasonal roundup :-)

  • Alice to Zouroku - one of positive surprises of the season. Loveable cast of characters and not bad story. 3D parts of the animation is terrible, but the rest (2D parts) is really good - 8/10
  • Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism - Had really good start with interesting concept, but soon turned out to be typical battle shounen mixed with harem romcom - 7/10
  • Clockwork Planet - One of the biggest let downs. Probably the most unique settings I've seen with terribly cliché story and characters - 7/10
  • Eromanga-sensei - I knew beforehand that it's from the author of OreImo, so I expected something similar. I enjoyed it but didn't like the characters as much as in OreImo; maybe I'm just getting old... - 7/10
  • Fukumenkei Noise - Good romance drama with great sons. If not for the songs the score would be lower - 8/10
  • Granblue Fantasy The Animation - It's noticeable that anime is base on a game (or I played way to many JRPGs). It's not bad, but also it's nothing I haven't seen before - 7/10
  • Hinako Note - CGDCT, what else? - 7/10
  • ID-0 - Hidden gem of this season. Really good 3D CGI animation with thought-provoking story and good characters - 8/10
  • Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel (TV) - I expected it to be better. While nothing in particular was really bad, the overall impression is not that good - 6/10
  • Re:Creators - My number 3 from this season. Based on the synopsis I thought it would be reverse-isekai, and while it was the basic idea behind the story, it raises few quite interesting questions - 9/10
  • Renai Boukun - Another let down. Expected something similar to Gabriel Dropout and at first it seemed to be such. But it went downhill after first few episodes, with repetitive jokes and some overused cliché moments - 7/10
  • Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records - Yet another that started great just to turn into master of clichés later - 7/10
  • Sakura Quest - This one is a strange one. While at its core it's still CGDCT, it has the unique aspect of the girls (can we still call them girls?) being older than typical high schooler or middle schooler - 8/10
  • Sakurada Reset - Time-travel catnip for MAL users :-) So far looks strong. Good animation (similar in style to Shinsekai Yori), great story and characters. 8.5/10
  • Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasu ka? Isogashii desu ka? Sukutte Moratte Ii desu ka? - My AOTS for this Spring 2017. Interesting story with great, dark twist - 9/10
  • Tsugumomo - Ecchi anime done right. But nothing more and nothing less - 7/10
  • Tsuki ga Kirei - I had hard time deciding if this or SukaSuka is my AOTS. And this one is close second. Best romance anime I've seen in a while - 9/10
  • Zero kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho - Very good action/adventure/fantasy mix. Great chemistry between two main characters - 8/10

I was planning to post this few days ago, but I found this really good manga and I had to read it :-P

My first impressions for Summer 2017 anime:

  • Battle Girl High School - some time ago I was looking for a Mahou Shoujo anime where the girls are older than typical middle-schoolers. While this anime has it (I think at least half of the cast is in high-school) it's not a good anime so far. The cast is way too big and the introduction was done in not a good way (to say the least).
  • Clione no Akari - interesting but it's way too soon to tell how it would go. First, there was only one episode so far, and second, it was only 9 minutes long.
  • Hajimete no Gal (My First Girlfriend is a Gal) - while it still made me laugh, I think I expected more. The first episode wasn't the strongest one, but there is definitely potential in this series.
  • Isekai Shokudou (Restaurant to Another World) - this anime makes me hungry :D detailed animation of food-making is mind-blowing. And I think it should have Slice-of-life tag (unless the focus of the story changes in later episodes).
  • Jikan no Shihaisha (Chronos Ruler) - I read about people complaining about this one, but I don't think it that bad. Yes, some comedy moments and animations were not that good, but it doesn't make the whole anime bad. So I don't know, maybe my taste in anime is simply bad?
  • Kakegurui - I was expecting it to be good, but this good? Hayami Saori as crazy Jabami Yumeko does a terrific job. I just hope it doesn't lose the momentum it has right now. Definitely one of the best one this season.
  • Knight's & Magic - I added it to my PTW list only because of the unusual mix of mecha and magic, but based on the synopsis I expected it to be yet another transferred into fantasy world anime. Yet it's far from typical isekai anime. Heck, I don't even know why they advertise it as such as that point of the plot could not be there and it still would be damn good anime.
  • Koi to Uso (Love and Lies) - romance in a world where love is forbidden (or more precisely doesn't bring fruits). First episode wasn't that great (solid good but nothing more), but the second one was much better. If this keeps up it could be one of the best this season.
  • Konbini Kareshi (Convenience Store Boyfriends) - if I counted correctly there are five concurrent love stories. I, personally, found all five interesting, but I know not every one will like all. I think every one should be able to find at least one interesting for him/her.
  • Made in Abyss - it wasn't on my PTW list until @Noraf46 recommended it to me. It's one of the two best anime of this season (so far) and I have really hight expectation for it. SPOILER ALERT: I read somewhere that it's the next Madoka.
  • Mahoujin Guruguru (Magical Circle) - I was browsing MAL today I saw recommendation for this one. As it's available on CR, I watched in on my way home from work - and I'm certain I looked weird laughing on the bus :D Based on the first episode it seems it will be a great parody of JRPG games :-)
  • Netsuzou TRap - I won't lie, I'm watching this for yuri moments :-) And I like what I've seen so far :-)
  • New Game!! - second season of New Game! ( I don't understand why it is not called New Game!+). In the first episode we got re-introduced to all the characters and it looks like it will as great as the first season :-)
  • Nora to Oujo to Noraneko Heart (Nora, Princess, and Stray Cat) - this was probably the weakest first episode. I laugh few times but it's not something I would recommend to watch.
  • Princess Principal - I admit, I wasn't expecting it to be this good. The synopsis looked damn intriguing but what I got was beyond my expectations. Great action, not that bad 3D CGI, good soundtrack and damn good characters (the last scene in first episode - it was amazing). The second of the two best anime of this season.
  • Skirt no Naka wa Kedamono Deshita. - hentai disguised as an anime. Do not watch!
  • Tenshi no 3P! (Angel's 3Piece!) - It's hard to say where this show is going, but it's enjoyable to some degree.
  • Tsurezure Children (Tsuredure Children) - short romance anime, quite similar to Konbini Kareshi (Convenience Store Boyfriends). But this one, IMO, has more comedy elements (or they work better for me).
  • Youkai Apartment no Yuuga na Nichijou (Elegant Yokai Apartment Life) - few seasons back I watched Fukigen na Mononokean (The Morose Mononokean) and really liked it. It seems this one will be enjoyable too.
  • Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e (Classroom of the Elite) - some people are already comparing it to OreGairu (and I don't blame them) and it seems it might be as good as OreGairu :-)

Now that The Reflection has finally aired, I've seen at least one of each episode of my seasonals.

Centaur no Nayami: Another monster girl series coming hot on the heels of the very pleasant Demi-chan. The major difference in this one is that this is an alternate world with no humans. They gave some exposition to try to explain why by saying in this world all animals evolved to have 6 limbs. Why that makes centaurs, merfolk, angels, satyrs, cat-people, snake-people, etc. without regular (or at least 4-armed) humans I have no idea. So far it's not bad. Lighthearted SoL.

Hajimete no Gal: So far seems to be standard ecchi comedy. I do enjoy the protagonist's inner monologues and his circle of desperate virgin friends.

Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni.: Make Konosuba but without the comedy. It's not bad but not amazing. The protagonist is good at everything but at least there's explanation given and he acts humble.

Knight's & Magic: I like the magical knight mechas but @mozgow is right about the "transferred to a fantasy world" part not mattering. I guess they do it to explain the MC's fascination with robots and ability to figure out magic use to such a degree without simply saying "this child has a fascination with machines and is a magical prodigy," but it's weird that it doesn't come up in any other aspect of the show. The MC is a child with an adult's mind but doesn't behave like it, none of the people close to the kid show any concern over the sudden change in his behavior, etc. That's probably my only complaint with the show, which is otherwise entertaining.

Made in Abyss: So far this is one of the best of the season. I'm really looking forward to them exploring the abyss and the craziness that's down there, and I think it will be handled with equal amounts of wonder and dread. I get the strong feeling that things aren't going to be as happy and whimsical as the art style may have you believe.

Princess Principal: I thought the description sounded interesting, and it's surprisingly better than I thought. I'd probably describe it as alternate history steampunk espionage. So far one of the best this season for me. Bonus points for a great opening theme.

Shoukoku no Altair: A decent mix of action and political/military intrigue set in a fictional "Turkiye." Interested in seeing where this goes.

The Reflection: Man, this took forever to come out. Everything else is on its 3rd or 4th episode and this just hit over the weekend. I wanted to see what Stan Lee could bring with this mix of superheroes and anime, but sadly the first episode wasn't impressive. I can appreciate the minimalist art style, but the choppy and slow animation was painful. Hopefully this series hits its stride within the next few episodes or it could turn into a huge disappointment.

Carrying over from last season, I'm still watching Re:Creators, and it's still interesting, though they've spent a lot of time over the past couple episodes planning so hopefully the plot picks up again soon.

For my backlog, I think I'll check out last season's ID-0 and maybe one or two single cour shows before jumping back into a longer running show, like maybe the Fate series.

Regarding Knight's & Magic - he was born and raised in that world (it's similar to Tanya from Youjo Senki), so there was not sudden change in the behaviour.

As for The Reflection, I have mixed feelings. I love the art-style (an animated comic book), but animation quality was not that good. It's only the first episode, so we'll have to wait and see how it would develop.

If I may, I highly recommend ID-0. It's not the best anime of the season, but IMO it's better than many other, more popular ones.

Was he born there? It seemed to me that he died in the real world and then it shifted to the kid in the alternate world who was really withdrawn until the mechas showed up to save his family. I got the impression he just imprinted on the kid at that time, but maybe I misinterpreted it.

I was looking to watch ID-0 last season but I got too full and had to make some tough calls. I saw you recommended it on the group's front page so I moved it up on my backlog. A lot of times I just use a RNG to pick a backlog title for me if there isn't anything that I've specifically been wanting to watch.

A lot of interesting shows this season, so I had to add a few to my backlog, but I'm feeling pretty good about what I've picked to watch this season.

Shoukoku no Altair: Continuing over from last season, Mahmut is now going on the offensive against the empire rather than reacting to their attacks.

Black Clover: A couple powerful magicians are rivals to become the Wizard King. I heard some people making comparisons to Naruto. One of the MCs is certainly screamy enough and has the “never give up” attitude for it.

Garo: Vanishing Line: I don’t know anything about the other Garo titles (and only even heard there were other Garo titles when I checked the pv thread for this title), but this looks like badass demon fighting and it doesn’t disappoint there.

Infini-T Force: Take several classic Tatsunoko heroes and team them up to fight a world-destroying evil. This one is entirely CGI, but rather than more typical CGI anime styles this looks like the kind you’d see in a fighting game cutscenes. Honestly, I think it really works especially for the fight scenes.

Inuyashiki: I had to check out “cyborg grandpa” and while I’ve only seen the first episode it certainly leaves me wanting more.

Juuni Taisen: A battle royale title featuring super assassins based around the Chinese zodiac. So far it seems to follow the formula of “whoever the episode spends time focusing on gets killed at the end,” which is only surprising the first time it happens. Aside from that minor pitfall, the characters and their powers are interesting and the hunting & fights are smart and brutal.

Kekkai Sensen & Beyond: I really enjoyed the first season of Kekkai Sensen so I’ve been hyped and waiting for this since I first heard it was announced. More crazy antics in the absolutely insane world of Hellsalem’s Lot.

Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau: People living on a floating island in a sea of sand. They’ve only released 2 episodes so far and already shown that things are not as they seem and for reasons unknown the elders have been lying to their people; it also appears this is a title that’s not afraid to pull punches as the second episode ends with what appears to be a lovable character’s death. I have high hopes that this will be one of my top picks this season.

Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou: Follow the day-to-day trials of what may be the sole survivors of a war that decimated humanity as 2 young girls explore what’s left of the world.

From my backlog I've grabbed another late 90s title, Hyper Police.

@Nora46 Re: Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau - Indeed! It certainly does seem to have the potential to be a good series. I was reflecting on the artwork and I've realized it has a look similar to Ghibli's "Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa"(sic). I had originally passed over watching this series but I'm glad I went back and gave it a watch.

Two Car
Blend S
Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau (Children of the Whales)
Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou
Mahoutsukai no Yome
Omiai Aite wa Oshiego, Tsuyoki na, Mondaiji
Imouto sae Ireba Ii.
Net-juu no Susume
and Osake wa Fuufu ni Natte Kara

About a third of the way through the season and here's what I've picked up. Most of these are set for 24 eps so next season I probably won't have much room for new shows.

Beatless: Humanoid robots handle most jobs and housework, and while most people are happy with it, some are clearly opposed. Meanwhile, a group of special robots fight some secret war in the background. It's alright, though a bit slow right now and the MC and his sister leave a lot to be desired.

Darling in the FranXX: New Trigger is always worth checking out. The innuendo level in this thing is through the roof. I think Kill la Kill was more subtle with it sexuality. Anyway, can't wait for some kind of twist or big reveal.

Grancrest Senki: A fantasy anime about lords and mages out to gain power to assemble the Emperor's Crest. It's ok, but seems to move at a pretty rapid pace and the battles for control over lands seem pretty small and underwhelming as a side effect. It has that Utawarerumono feel where the MC has a handful of super strong individuals that can take down entire armies on their own Dynasty Warriors style.

Killing Bites: Anyone remember the Bloody Roar fighting games? Yeah, this is that with A LOT MORE fanservice.

Kokkoku: A family with the ability to stop time and a criminal organization trying to use that power for their own gain. The entire series so far has taken place in a single moment in time, and it's actually pretty interesting.

Nanatsu no Taizai: Imashime no Fukkatsu: I liked the first season on the 7 deadly sins so this was a no-brainer.

Overlord II: As above, had to pick up on the next season of this one.

Carrying over from last season, I'm still watching Black Clover and Garo: Vanishing Line. From my backlog I've made it about 2/3 of the way through Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood

I have been trying to limit my anime to completed ones, but if I hear a good review I will give it a try.

Overlord 2. I really enjoyed the first one and really liking this one.

Killing Bites- The cheesy anime, that is just for cheep thrills. Fighting and ecchi

Marchen Madchen: Cute magical girls, I am a sucker for these.

Death March Isekai: I like isekai. Seems to be the harem route, reminds me of isekai smart phone. That was very weak and I have the same expectations.

Ryuuou no Oshigoto!- Game anime based on shogi with lolis. Not too much into lolis but after watching Saki and Chihayafuru, i cannot resist.

Darling in the Franx: I tried the first episode and zero two is fun to watch.

I've got so many holdovers from last season that I could only pick up a few new ones this season, and with so many returning series my choices were pretty much made for me. That just means I had to add a bunch to my backlog. sigh

Ongoing series include Black Clover, Nanatsu na Taizai, Grancrest Senki, Darling in the FRANXX, and Beatless.

The new ones I've picked up are:

Boku no Hero Academia season 3: A great series that I'm sure won't disappoint.

Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory: A long overdue continuation of the series.

High School DxD Hero: Another entry in one of the best ecchi harem series out there. Although having watched the second episode this morning and seeing that it was censored (while episode 1 was not), I may put this on the shelf until an uncensored version is readily available.

Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online: That's a long title. An SAO/GGO spinoff featuring a separate cast of characters. Should be interesting.

Tokyo Ghoul Re: Probably my least hopeful for this season, as the series has had it's share of issues (particularly with pacing). If it surprises me, great. If not, I'll probably pass on any future entries in the franchise.

From the backlog, I'm slowly working through Otome Youkai Zakuro.

Ongoing:
Darling in the Franxx: Some episodes it seems really good, some not so much

Toji no Miko: relaxing

New this season:
Uma Musume: Pretty Derby: Probably my surprise of the season. Cute and comedic but essentially a sports anime

Shokugeki no Souma: San no Sara - Toutsuki Ressha-hen- Continuation of a very fun series. I like to cook and eat different foods, so it is a natural.

Golden Kamuy: Serious type, historical with two interesting characters.

Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu: Die Neue These - Kaikou: I never watched the original, so this is way to catch up.

High School DxD Hero: Not much to say, more of the same :)

Steins;Gate 0: Great first few episodes. Makes realize why I like the first one so much.

Dorei-ku The Animation: Not sure about this one. I was hoping for a Kakegurei type anime.

Mahou Shoujo Site: Dark magic girl drama. Each on these type of show, the girls go through worse and worse.

Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online. I really like the first few episodes. I always like the GGO setting.

Made a couple changes. First I put High School DxD Hero on hold until an uncensored version is available. Then I decided to drop Beatless as it's just not that interesting. Whenever I see a new episode released I just think, "I guess I should watch that, but oh look, there's something better that came out too." It goes so slowly and nothing really worthwhile ever seems to develop. I might watch the final episode just see how it ends and I'm pretty sure I'll be able to figure out what happened between when I left off and then.

With those 2 down, I've picked up Uma Musume Pretty Derby which is pretty fun even though I'm not much into sports anime.

My latest seasonal update:

Overlord 3: I have always liked this anime and the characters in it. It is getting progressively darker.

Attack on Titan 3: So far, all politics and deceit. Almost no titans. To me, I am feeling the age of this series.

Harukana Receive: Beach Volleyball sports anime. Limited amount of fan service and an interesting story about a newcomer and veterans with past issues. Pretty fun so far.

Shichisei no Subaru: Rather poor, character trapped in game, so far

Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu: My surprise find of this season. Another Isekai show. This one I am enjoying. A socially awkward, MMORPG king, who ends up being summoned to a new world. Definitely a harem with fan service, but it is actually got a plot and some good action.

Angolmois: Genkou Kassenki: Events of the second mongol invasion of Japan. Concentrating on one island's population fight for survival. War anime with gore but a good plot so far.

Hanebado: Girl badminton sports anime with a darker tone. It is just ok, so far.

Hyakuren no Haou to Seiyaku no Valkyria: Isekai trash. Reminds of smart phone. Almost no effort put into this show.

High Score Girl: A story concentrating on early arcade games and a budding romance in middle preschoolers. Not my favorite art style or subject, but it is holding my interest.

Stein's Gate 0: I got through the first 14 episodes and I am taking a break. I am really enjoying it so far, but I think the impact will be greater if can binge the rest.

Hataraku Saibou: Cells at work. The cells of body are given human forms. Light hearted and very enjoyable. The platelets are amazing.

Hey, the forums are back! It only took what? 3 or 4 months?

Anyway, here's what I've picked up this season:

Banana Fish: I'd heard good things, and so far I'm not disappointed. A street thug and his rag-tag group try to outwit the mafia as they search for the secrets of a dangerous new drug.

Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro: The zany hijinks of a girl on her way to school. The premise sounded funny and the show delivers in wacky situations, though I actually thought the entire season would be a single day's walk to school. Instead it's 1-2 walks per episode with only one strange occurence on each. It's still funny, but I was expecting some absurdly epic detour just to get to school at the end of the series.

Harukana Receive: Following this after last season's Uma Musume Pretty Derby I suddenly find myself enjoying sports anime. What have I become? Anyway, this is so far a fairly decent story with likable characters all around. Also, despite featuring girls in swimsuits 90% of the time, this anime doesn't have nearly as much fanservice as you might expect.

Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu: Yeah, it's another isekai anime, and yeah, it's a harem with fanservice. Despite that, it's a solid choice so far with good action and a funny deprecating MC who's clearly out of his comfort zone but doing his best to fake it.

Jashin-chan Dropkick: A comedy about a devil summoned into service by a witch (who seems to just be a standard goth girl without actual magic). There are other devils running around, but no one seems to be bothered by it, despite obvious physical differences. It's pretty funny and cute, and Jashin-chan alternates between being sympathetic and a total dirtbag flawlessly.

Overlord 3: Overlord's back again and this time things are really moving, this time in a decidedly darker direction. Unlike last season, no time was wasted without even seeing Ains or the Nazarick crew; they're actively planning things and luring heroes to the tomb. Ains seems to be losing more of his humanity. So far this looks a lot more like the Overlord I love than last season's somewhat disappointing showing.

Shingeki no Kyojin S3: Finally a third season of Attack on Titan, now with far less Titans? and more guns? and cowboys? Honestly it's a bit odd. There's much more intrigue with the inner walls and the government, which is at least done well enough, but I'm feeling the itch to watch a giant squish people while scouts buzzsaw-bungee into the back of their neck. Suddenly having cowboys with 3D maneuver gear and shotguns was pretty jarring, no matter what kind of excuse they try to make for it. I'm really hoping they don't leave everything like the hints of a titan village and all that from S2 up in the air.

Still watching Black Clover and Boku no Hero Academia S3 from last season.

From the backlog, I'm very nearly done with Ixion Saga DT.

@Noraf46 Thanks for the updates. Uma Musume Pretty Derby was my surprise of last season. It made me want to watch more girls sports and game animes, I am watching Harukana Receive and Hanebado because of that show.

I watched Keijo when it aired and it was hilarious. Not sure I would necessarily brand it as a sports anime primarily, though, lol.

I used to be able to watch a lot more with my old job, so I could keep up with easily a dozen or more seasonals while also working through my backlog at a fair pace. Now since I can't watch at work I'm limited to about 2 episodes a day that I can sneak in while getting ready in the morning or whatever, so I have to limit myself to about 8 or so seasonals just so I can still devote a little time to a backlog title.

About a third of the way into the season so I've finally sorted out my watch list and seen enough to decide on what's staying. From last season, Banana Fish & Black Clover are carrying over.

Fairy Tail: I've watched Fairy Tail from the beginning, so I've been looking forward to the final season for a long time.

Goblin Slayer: Probably my top of this season so far. A dark fantasy heavily inspired by D&D.

Radiant: A cursed sorcerer hunting giant beasts. I was a little doubtful with the first episode, but the next few changed my mind. The characters and airship designs feel kind of nostalgic.

Release the Spyce: A group of girls act as spies/ninja protectors against the criminal underworld. Not a strong show by any stretch, but it's not too bad as long as the fights against generic robo minions are kept to a minimum.

Sword Art Online: Alicization: Another foray into the SAO world where the people don't realize they're in a game (if they're real people at all).

Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken: I picked this up because of @elkensteyin 's recommendation, and it does not disappoint. Easy Top 3 for me for new series this season. A man is reincarnated as a slime in a fantasy/game world and has to learn and evolve on his adventure.

Zombieland Saga: A mad scientist/producer gathers a bunch of zombie girls to make an idol group. A pretty fun show especially early on with the different unexpected song styles, though lately they seem to be falling into standard idol pop (complete with awful CGI dancing), which hurts it a bit imo. During the first 2 eps I'd put this in my number 2 slot, but now with Slime and the idol pop it drops to 3.

I had originally picked up Senran Kagura Shinovi Master: Tokyo Youma-Hen but I put it on hold until I can watch all the eps uncensored rather than just the first one.

From my backlog I've started watching Gunslinger Girl.

I have a ton carrying over from last season so I could only pick up a few new seasonals, but I don't have any complaints with my picks for this season.

Dororo: A lord makes a deal with the devil in feudal Japan which leads to his newborn son being cursed, losing his limbs, eyes, and skin. Somehow he survives and is given sword prosthetics and hunts demons and other monsters from Japanese mythology. It seems that for every demon he kills he regains one of his stolen body parts.

Mahou Shoujo Tokushusen Asuka: A magical girl series but in this world they're used for military operations and counter-terrorism. It's not often you see magical girls struggling with PTSD, so that gives it something unique that makes for a decent watch.

Mob Psycho 100 season 2: Heck yeah more Mob and Reigen!

Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari: An otaku is summoned to become a hero in a fantasy world but gets the short end of the stick when his magical weapon is merely a shield. As much as people look down on him for that alone, things still manage to quickly go downhill from there. Looks like it has a lot of promise, and already stirred up a little controversy.

Yakusoku no Neverland: An orphanage where things aren't what they seem. Children are regularly tested and aren't allowed to leave. When I read the synopsis of the show I expected a bit of a slow burn, where they start noticing a few things that don't make sense before finding out what's going on, but nope! Near the end of the first episode and they're face-to-face with horror. Can't wait to see more.
