| Don't have anything against Usopp, i actually like him a lot as a character, but the fact that he's ready to abandon everyone just for the sake of going merry, no matter how important merry is, is just sad. Especially with Robin missing. |

He could have handled the situation much better, imo. But, honestly, I'm glad that this new found rivalry between the two happened as I think it opens up a good chance of development for not just those two, but the Straw Hat crew entirely. In summary, I like where this is going. Agreed. For some reason, to a lot of the fans, a character is useless if they don't have DBZ fighting abilities. Usopp is useful in other ways, and has saved his Nakama more than Robin, Nami, and even Chopper! |

Show him who's captain! +1 He cant even fix shit. Has to leave it to some ghost to make all the repairs... That damn black guy needs to die already. All he does is scream and act like an ass he should have died 10 times already. Just like that awful looking boat. Not to mention he's half fkn dead yet he has the 'will' to fight luffy? If this doesnt kill him i give up. Nvm ill just keep watching ill just hate it even more. after loosing 2/3 of their money he should have picked up a fucking axe and chop down that ship if luffy would have said so. That useless buffon acting like that really pissed me off. I hope luffy beats the shit out of him but somehow i have a bad feeling bout it. | Waaa There's what so many things to quote here but I'll just summarize it as much as I can Usopp is not totally useless, he do what he can that it's not really too much but.. well he do something I watch him more as a clown than the shooter of the crew, no matter what he do he's always s clown (I mean his fights are always like that) And on this episode I think he was just being selfish and irrational he preferred a ship than his nakama what the hell was that!!(I know that was Kaya's present but that little ship is not gonna get over the Grand Line and Shin Sekai like nothing) he has to think that the ship already have some serious damage that fall from sky was a really heavy, he didn't want to hear the reasons of why it can't be repaired he thought Luffy was abandoning Merry just because he wanted to I know he is going to apologize kneeling down and crying about this |

| Usopp is useless! But right now he's deluded. To him it isn't just a ship, so he isn't excepting reality. If they had started by saying the ships spine is broken and that it would have to be taken completely apart to do anything, things might or might not have gone better. |

| Wowza, I wasn't expecting that! I love how this episode really highlights the relationships between the crew members though. I feel like Zoro gets Luffy the most...they seem to have some unspoken understanding of one another and there are times where they feel quite alike in their values. Nami relies on Luffy the most emotionally- she always looks to him to do the "right" thing or act in a certain way, and when he doesn't she's visibly stressed. Sanji and Chopper (+Usopp) are the most emotional of the bunch, I'd say...although they express it in different ways. Chopper cries a lot and Sanji just loses his shit lol but he'll prolly cry afterwards anyway Usopp is like the Merry itself- necessary for the journey ahead, but needs to reinvent to succeed. Luffy was really captain-like this episode...I feel like he's improving as a leader! Also, Usopp has proven that deep down he is most definitely a brave warrior of the sea! The guy knows full well what Luffy is capable of, yet he still wants a formal duel with him :'( Then we have all the stuff with Robin going on...feels like a major turning point since there's never been so much friction between the Straw Hats before. It was bound to happen eventually! Honestly, this is one of the stand out episodes for me, alongside the one where Luffy & Zoro let Bellamy and co. beat the crap outta them, and the really early episode about Sanji's past. |

Banja said: Greatest One Piece episode I've seen. It was a whirlwind of intense emotions. I want to defend Usopp though. It's sort of sad that some people have no sympathy for Usopp and want him off the crew or even killed. He's going through an incredibly difficult time, and it's understandable that he feels the way he does. If Usopp had been there for the shipwrights' explanation, and wasn't abducted, beaten within an inch of his life, humiliated, and robbed, he would've come around with time, just like the other crew members. I guess I find it sad because of how Usopp acted just two episodes ago. Did people not see how he threw his life on the line to get their money back? He felt completely responsible and ashamed for something pretty much out of his control, and he never gave up until he was nearly dead. He was willing to die for his friends' money. That took immense bravery, and Usopp's sheer loyalty is absolutely stunning. This wasn't the only time either—he's come through for his friends many times, even saving their lives on occasion. Furthermore, he left the crew because he felt he was holding them back. He felt the loss of the money and the irreparable Going Merry were both his fault, and he apologized to his friends for being a "burden". He left for them. How on Earth can people call this guy selfish? Usopp is a kind, loyal friend with his own talents and skills to add to the team. He even still believes that Luffy will one day become Pirate King. This guy...I just don't see how people can dislike a guy like that. The pieces of shit that deserve hate are that damn Franky Family. They are the cause of all this drama, and I wanted to see them slaughtered. They better have a damn good reason for doing what they do. Couldn't explain better the whole situation. We already got extremely good answers on this thread, and anyone who disagrees can't see right what it's happening. This episode is simply astounding, very well written and animated. Also, this Franky guy better have A HELL of a good excuse for doing all of this and still be able to join the crew, because right now I like him as much as I liked Crocodile or Enel: better tell him to fuck himself. |

| Easily the saddest and most dramatic episode of the series yet. I swear I went through an entire tissue box. It felt a little much. It was a massive toneshift like we’ve never seen before. However, I don’t think it’s wrong in anyway. I was saying time and time again that when Usopp woke up, having to be saved again, feeling absolutely useless to the crew and then hearing about how his treasure was going to be gone forever that he was going to be in the worst emotional state ever. I had begged that Oda would write the story so that Usopp would fight Franky and redeem himself. Instead it’s gone in the opposite direction. In an emotional breakdown he quits the crew and demands a duel with our favorite rubber man Luffy. The tone shift felt extreme but extreme isn’t always bad. This felt so built up to that I cannot claim it’s poorly done. Now, coming from Luffy’s perspective. Why would he tactlessly state that Usopp’s treasure is going in the trash? Well, for one, Luffy is the most emotionally aware person in the anime. I will be shocked if this is not a part of a plan. To speak about why Luffy would be so angry, it’s because he feels that he is losing a friend too. The Going Merry was a friend and a crew member to all of them, including freaking Zoro, and he after showing his own fight to keep it afloat had decided that it’s time to leave their good friend behind. None of them are happy about it. So, he’s trying to express that to Usopp and Usopp is acting as if the Going Merry is only his and he is the only one who feels as strongly about it. He has the most extreme connection and emotion to it but Luffy is angry as hell that Usopp isn’t realizing everyone is hurting. That is clear. Secondly, I think that Luffy may be doing this and making him mad, not unlike the time where he got in a fight with Vivi. “Aren’t we friends?!” He realizes that if the ship is going under, then no one will pull Usopp through this with care and compassion. Usopp has to fight through his emotions and connections and love for the Merry and see it like it is through his own strength. Or so, that is my theory on why Luffy is pushing him away rather than showing any kind of compassion. He clearly understands that Usopp sees the ship the way he sees his straw hat. If someone tried to steal and break his straw hat, something we’ve seen people do in the past, he goes berserk. Of course an apology will not work Luffy tells Nami, because Usopp is fighting for his treasure the same way Luffy would. So, I feel the fact that Luffy understands all of this means that he’s definitely doing this on purpose. Luffy being shockingly complex and hard to read means I’m not sure what the exact goal in mind is, but I’d love to see it. We’ve never seen the Straw Hats emotions so high towards each other before. Usopp is having an emotional breakdown because of everything I’ve already listed, but also because if you think back to the Arlong arc when he finally started to view the Straw Hats on the same tier of importance as Kaya and his Usopp pirates, he said a line similar to “If I don’t pull my own weight, and fight risking my life like the other crew members do then I am not one of them, nor can I be.”, he decided to be worthy of the pirate crew and showed some of his first magnificent brave warrior action. He could do that during Arlong, and Alabasta even he put up a great fight with Chopper. However, now he’s feeling like he can’t keep up. He is no longer pulling his own weight. When before he may feel he is risking his life, now he feels he’s hesitating. To lose more than half their money to some goons any of the Straw Hats but Nami and him could fight with one hand was devastating and in his own definition of what makes someone a pirate, he has fallen out of it. AT LEAST IN HIS OWN MIND. He saved Robins life in the Aokiji fight. He did so much in Skypiea like risking his life to save Nami without hesitation. Usopp is a valuable member even if his skills don’t come up all the time in one on one combat. I hope he realizes that. But, it’s not just Usopp whose emotions are off the chart. Sanji showed his love for Usopp and kicked Luffy in the head when he realized Luffy was going to tell him to get off the ship. Sanji has angry outbursts sure, but this was one of the most genuine and normally they come out towards Zoro or others who insult him personally. That kick was 100% for Usopp’s sake. I also want to point out that I have been noting all of the little things Oda did to let us know Zoro has become attached to Usopp. Whether it’s telling him to get some rest, or picking up his shoes when he’s forgot them, or in this episode when he let Usopp clutch onto his legs without angrily yelling at him or hitting him! Then there’s Choppy. Him crying over Usopp saying he’s no longer his friend crushed me. Usopp was one of Choppy’s first friends ever and he was one of the best he could have asked for, as a role model, and as a close friend. It must have hurt him so much to hear that he lost that. This episode almost felt melodramatic because of the dramatic tone shift, something we haven’t really ever seen. But, to claim that it was bad or melodramatic would be inaccurate I think. For, in my bones I knew this was coming as soon as they had to save Usopp from the Franky House. And it was brutal. This was new territory for One Piece, serious in crew drama, the filler tried it and failed it but now we have some real good stuff going on and that’s a great thing. This arc is the best One Piece has been since Alabasta. Lastly, Usopp’s farewell, which I can only assume isn’t a final farewell made me think of something. If we do ever get a real farewell from one of our crew members, that will be heartbreaking. Having one of our beloved characters we’ve known and watched for hundreds of episodes leave the crew, or even die. That would be too much for me to handle. ; - ; And we have the duel that’s teased in the opening next episode. I wonder where it’ll go. |

| This episode felt like a ton of metaphorical bricks on my chest. Luffy trying to tackle things as rationally as he can felt very unnatural compared to his usual demeanor because he definitely does not have the pleasure of joking around since there's no other way to fix the Merry at this point but Usopp's having none of it. I'd say that Luffy announcing that they'll be getting a new ship right after Usopp got beaten up and lost the money was the straw that broke the camel's back but it's more like a truck that fell on it, to be honest. Watching the crew helplessly trying to defuse the situation was really sad too. Usopp's their precious friend and he's made countless contributions to the team despite his lack of powers so it'd be tragic to see him go this far in. They'll be both having a duel and considering how serious they both are, it looks like it won't end up being as one-sided as one would normally think. |

| Luffy's glare was very intimidating!😱 Anyways..what the hell with all these Usopp hating?! How very childish of you! Of course it's only natural for Usopp to feel hurt about the Merry. Everyone were hurt about it but he was more vocal to it. This episode shows how much sentimental Usopp is. And he really loved Merry. Despite not being a shipwright, he did his best to contribute and kept her going. Some people here reacted as if Usopp was useless! 🙄 |

| Such an emotional episode i had my fists clenched the whole time, the emotions that I've felt in this episode are truly undescribable both Oda and the animators did amazing job at writing/representing the scene. Still don't however see the point of Usopp fighting Luffy like that cuz i really felt bad for luffy here in the scene where Nami asks him "why aren't you saying anything" that really hit me like a truck. Seeing someone so cheerful be lost by words is painful af. I hope Usopp does apologize if he comes back to the crew, cuz he did say some heartless stuff there i love him as an character but going this far with the friends who beat up the Franky House just for his sake isn't justified. Loved the episode 5/5. |

| God, I wish they'd abandon Usopp so bad. He couldn't even protect two briefcases yet acts all mighty against the guy who fought for him just now. And I don't care what you say, he's still a dispensable character, he isn't even funny. If they make Usopp, fucking Usopp, defeat Luffy in the next episode I'll hella disappointed. |

| Never thought that this day would come!!! Usopps emotions are really legit. Specially when he felt himself weakest in his life. It was a hard decision for Luffy too. I think there was no better way. At least for respecting Usopp, Luffy will fight for sure. What a tragic scene. However I also hope that Franky gets the worst beating of his life by Strawhats. Filthy moron!!! Icebergs behavior seems a lot fishy to me. And why is Robin missing? Hope she is alright cause I don't think she would do any harm to strawhats. I believe she has been changed. | I near forgot to breathe during this episode. The question about Merry has been building up for a long time now and this criticial moment has been foreshadowed to excellently. At this point, the Going Merry really is the 8th member of the Straw Hats and the sentimental attachment to her is half as strong as to any of the major characters. I think Usopp feels betrayed because even in Skypiea, him & Luffy were on the same wavelength and often bonded over their love of Merry. That said, it's also clear that Usopp's strong feelings are double edged. It's driving him mad and he nearly killed himself trying to get the money back. Luffy is responding to those feelings and trying to protect his precious crewmate and friend in that way as well. |

| Rereading/rewatching One Piece and this is probably one of the saddest moment in OP, an inonic scene for sure. Confliction of ideals, Ussop's probably the one that feels the closest to the ship mainly due to his influence on it. Repairing it almost everyday, so even if they all love the ship, he easily has the closest connection to it. None of both are stupid, it's just a conflict between their ideals. They all love the ship but one cannot handle losing it. |

Honestly, I don't trust the Iceberg's gang just yet; Usopp did make a good argument regarding their sales tactics. This can also apply to IRL. You can't just take things at face value. You have to do more research to avoid getting [possibly] scammed like that. I almost got scammed by a professional mechanic before, so I would know. Luckily, my friend was there to help me. Luffy and Usopp almost got scammed by that professional banker (?) but Nami was there to catch that banker lying in the act. Without Nami, they would've walked off with only 100mil berries. Then there's Luffy and the others who believe that Merry is no longer going to be in good use, but Usopp wasn't there (since he was abducted). He may not be a shipwright, but he can figure out or learn how to fix Merry if he wanted to. We only saw a glimpse of Kaku looking at whatever was at the bottom, but that was it. Maybe there are some important or valuable materials that Kaku saw, and he's just lying to everyone? Maybe that secret person that fixed their ship in Skypeia placed something there that is considered a rare material? I mean, this guy does look like Usopp and he's probably a good liar at that TROLOLOL. It irks me that no one has checked the bottom area except for Kaku. Can someone in the crew please check first before giving up Merry completely?! All in all, I simply don't get the hate for Usopp. He has done so much for the team despite his physical strength. To see the crew fall apart makes me sad. T_T. I hope we get to see Robin soon. |

What is happening? ... A duel he says?? Oh chopper he lost his buddy Usopp. Btw where IS Robin?? They have too much history with each other to let it come to this. Luffy's not holding back and we know Usopp no match, so I'm nervous to see how this turns out. Man this was a rough one to watch. I don't want their bonds to be broken. |
