Great episode!!! Gearless joe vs opponent is a handicapped one but he has able to win it and well he is already a 102th ranked boxer...

And next week episode is vs 17th rank... this sure is gonna be a BATTLE !!!

Ay. Dope. Gearless Joe is cool, and very risky. I liked the montage as it made sense in a 13 episode cour. Can't show all 5 fights, so the first fight was to get Joe's feet wet while the other two were to raise his rank. Looks like Joe is going to fight a former student of Nanbu.

I like this anime. The action is okay. The boxing isn't on par as it is with Hajime No ippo but this anime feels raw you know. Unlike Ippo, I feel the fights are alot meaningful and Joe and Nanbu have so much to lose and gain. Either way this episode was intense. Music is as good as always. This is definitely a good anime

That was the thing with Ashita no joe. The boxing matches were way more meaningful instead of just having cool action

The atmosphere was intense during that fight, feelsgood episode right here. Was wondering how he was going to fight with the broken gear.

Joe being gearless just made him so much cooler. The thing I don't get though is that Joe should be used to being hit in the head with geared punches. As far as I can tell, gear doesn't protect the head.

They didn't quite explain why he was a allowed to fight without gear too well. What are "standard rules" suppose to be? I imagine megalo boxing has its own set of rules, but are we talking standard megalo boxing rules or standard boxing rules here? On another note, way to make a last name for yourself. Wonder if it'll stick.

This plothole should be addressed later on the episodes. I hope he gets his gear asap in the mid ranks as opponents supposedly get stronger.

I had a lot of gripes and doubts from the previous episode, and this episode pretty much evaporated my excitement for the show. Seems that the story is committing fully to the idea of a regular boxer beating up geared boxers, which makes the existence of gears entirely pointless. And since we've got 9 episodes to go you can bet he's he's going to keep beating everyone, which further trivializes the concept of megaloboxing and everything that's supposed to separate it from regular boxing.

And as if the kid wasn't annoying enough in episode 3, they cranked the dial up for his whining even further. It was dumb enough that some 10 year old street urchin is somehow an expert on gears, but since Joe isn't even using one, the kid is just there for no reason whatsoever.

It's a real shame that it's turning out like this. This show had a premise and artstyle that really made it stand out from the cookie cutter isekai and slice of life anime that we get every season, but sadly the plot is just taking a nosedive for me.

Doesn't the 'old' art style of the anime reflect "Gearless" Joe who goes for the 'old' way of boxing? It's like the art style of the anime being rebellious like the character who goes for the retro way.

Really good episode, the music again was amazing. The fight was good, showed some of Joe's inner struggles during the fight. I really liked how they handled Joe being afraid. With a lecture making him realise that he wasn't alone in this whole thing and some motivation, he was back on his feet ready to box.
I would like to see Joe fight with someone who also uses his brain during fights, like himself. Hopefully this new fighter will be like that. Excited for the next episode.

I don't understand why he felt fear? Is it because he has no gear? because in the earlier episodes it's like he is ready to die in the ring and now they showed that he is afraid what to lose? or to die? Considering he is always doing that.

Very good episode. I like how Joe has to get over his fear of fighting without gear and how he gets used to it after the first match of his. Seems like the guy that'll be Joe's 4th opponent is a guy that the coach knew so it'll be interesting to see what happens next.

Oh shoot, he really is just going in gearless, thought they would have patched something up real quick or something. Dude got himself into one hell of a fight here, had me worrying the whole damn fight what the heck was going on with him, he was totally out of it. Fear was really taking it's toll on Joe here, but dude really got it together at the end there. And started climbing, guess the second and third fights weren't important. Anyway, episode was once again, damn good.

There's no plothole though. The ref outright states that Megalo Boxing has no rule against fighting without a gear before the fight with Samejima starts.

I think Joe is gonna start wearing a gear as his oppenants get harder, however if this is not the case then this is bullshit as the cover displays Joe wearing a gear and also the story so far has been built around boxers using gears in their battles.

This episode is the worst animation so far. Feels like I'm back to 80-90s where the animation is just as simple as this.
But still be one of anime of the year.

Glad to see someone else isn't just blindly supporting this anime, but also looking at it with a critical eye.

I agree with you about the plot, I wasn't too excited to see him beating up fighters while gearless and I think they shoehorned his victory in this episode. Fear does not shut you down to such a level that you forget how to move unless it is your first experience, and we have seen him face many boxers of varying abilities with little to no signs of personal hesitation. It doesn't make sense just judging his personality, which leads me to believe that they were just covering up the fact that it would be illogical for Joe to beat them by pure prowess alone.

I didn't think the kid was annoying in the third episode, and have actually gotten quite attached to him...though I can see why his archetype can prove unlikable to others.

I am just hoping the plot gets better from here. I'm not willing to drop it yet, though if it continues this streak into the tenth episode, I may just consider it.

I think that's the overall style they're going for, so I wouldn't say the quality of the animation is a setback.

Gearless, eh? I guess that is a sure-fire way to gain attention. Not that it will make earning reputation much easier for Joe.

However, a gearless opponent does make a match much more enjoyable.

I don´t understand how those boxers can stay in the rank if can´t defeat a rookie without gears!!! Then, the gears are not necessary to figh, right? This point seemed to me a bit sutpid if in the next episode use the gears to fight, if not i will suck down my words!!!

An excellent episode, the fight lasted a proper amount of time and the training sequences plus seeing Saicho deliverying posters around the city was heartwarming. I'm really looking forward for the next fight, and I hope that they make it tough for Joe.

Still, is a shame that this anime is a short one, you can do so much with more episodes, like, for example, show us more of the society
