Series that get rated a 5.xx or 6.xx on Mal yet you surprisingly enjoy watching

So what would those be, either for guilty pleasure or you genuinely think it deserves better.

For me, it'd those shows that people labeled as "kid shows" and automatically give it horrible rating, like MH Stories , Bakugan Battle Brawlers, Tenkai Knight, and Gundam Build Driver.

The story is nothing to write home at by any means, and there're alot of generic elements, but I think the artstyle and animation is nice, characters are super likable, and they fulfill their purpose and have a clear goal of what they want to present.
I find them more enjoyable to watch than the filler arcs on many shonen series. (Which people rated much higher cuz it's "cool")

Also, unpopular opinion, School Days is actually very enjoyable to watch :D
No seriously, I think the train-wreck of School Days is very fun to watch, and it's surprisingly realistic.
I think School Days is far better than mediocre romance like Plastic Memories (Probably the most boring romance series ever, almost put me to sleep)

Also Boku no Pico is the best hentai ever created.

Considering it's still pretty popular in Japan, especially the manga, I don't doubt you though.

Nothing is implied here.

Just curious to know because I believe there're some good/ fun to watch low rated series out there.

There're numerous experience of some 6.xx series give me more enjoyment than 8.xx series.

MAL ratings are pointless because their basis is that MAL's user base, primarily a western audience, have an opinion that matters, They do no not.

Killing Bites was great though.

That's right. Many Beyblades are scored under 7 and they are better than many trashy shows that get 7.8+ here, just because the former "are just dumb stuff for kids" according to many, and the latter are not.

Like the OP said School Days is good anime I think its low score was due to how it left you with the feeling of hatred for everyone/ majority of the characters in that series.

another one would be Junk Boy for me I thought it was pretty good and people always mentioned how golden boy over-shadows it.They are similar and I will say golden boy is the better anime but Junk boy is still dop and I love the ed for it

maybe I should try something with really low rating. But Ova and Oneshot, despite being so short, I found them to be very enjoyable, even with low rating

also, if you going in with the knowledge that it's shit, then you'd probably enjoy the hell out of it

victory gundam and concrete revolutio are both shows in the upper 6.00's that i genuinly love and rated an 8 (well concrete's 2nd cour is rated in low 7's but whatever). Victory gundam i kind of get and dont get at the same time, its flawed as hell but like zeta gundam and a few other high rated entries do the same shit sometimes worse yet get free passes for it, yet victory gets the short end of the stick as one of the worst in the series.

theres also a wildly entertaining and charming kids show called tribe cool crew about dance offs that somehow doesnt have a 7+ score despite it generally being well liked throughout the episode discussions and where you look, its just no one watched it. I actually ended up giving it an 8 cause it was legitimently really fun and had a great sense of absurdity to the scenarios to not make things get too serious,

you need to watch more then, its absurd how many gems are hidden away there especially in older shows which generally get harsher ratings due to lower people watching it. A big recent one that comes to mind is both garo Honoo no Kokuin and garo vanishing line, both shows that were super fun and had great characters/osts/fights and so on but are stuck at 7.5 and 7.3 baffilingly

Reordering https://graph.anime.plus/GlennMagusHarvey/list,anime by the "Diff" column gives me a very handy list.

things I rated 9 (meaning I loved it), that people rated significantly lower (less than 7):

  • Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (6.45)
  • Luger Code 1951 (6.49)
  • Atelier Escha & Logy (6.50)
  • Stratos 4 (6.73), Stratos 4 OVA (6.84), Stratos 4 Advance (6.94), Stratos 4 Advance Kanketsu-Hen (7.04; I'm including this because it's close, and it's also part of the same series. It's interesting how, broadly speaking, increasingly fewer people watched each installment (which I've listed in story order here), but the score is higher. This suggests that only the people who get to the later parts tend to be the more dedicated fans.) (shout-out to @busan above)
  • Umi Monogatari (6.74)
  • Glory Days (6.85)
  • Rocket Girls (6.98)

things I rated 8 (meaning I liked it, and then some), that people rated below 7:

  • Rinne no Lgrange (6.99)

things I rated 7 (meaning I liked it), that people rated below 7:

  • Karen Senki (5.84)
  • Leviathan the Last Defense (Zettai Bouei Leviathan) (6.38)
  • Under the Dog (6.41)
  • Frame Arms Girl (6.50)
  • Coppelion (6.54)
  • Ys - part 1 (6.57), part 2 (6.76)
  • Element Hunters (6.69)
  • Uta~Kata (6.83)
  • Samurai Pizza Cats (Kyatto Ninden Teyandee) (6.84)
  • GoLion (6.95) (note: this score is technically from watching Voltron, not GoLion)

things that I rated 6 (meaning I kinda liked it), that people rated below 7:

  • Wonder Momo (3.76)
  • Ragnarök the Animation (6.55)
  • Absolute Duo (6.76)

Well, in Mal 7.xx is average, 6.xx is below average , 5.xx is bad, 4 is almost impossible to get.

Just because the site gives each marking category a name doesn't mean people treat it that way.

Well, 6.xx is pretty much a good rating depending on the type of show. It's a good score for old OVAs and the likes, it's a good score for kids shows like you say, or for most shorts. So yeah, I've probably enjoyed a thousand anime in that range. 5.xx is a big leap down tho, there's certainly a much smaller percentage of stuff that I enjoyed from that range, and it's mostly gonna be old OVAs and shorts but probably not more than a handful of 'legitimate' titles. The ratings start to be fairly reliable in those lower regions for the most part.

It depends on the type of show what the scores mean. Sure, sitewide the average is 7-ish, but if you compare a popular mainstream seasonal watched by tens of thousands of people with 8-10 rating systems to an obscure oldie w atched mostly by a handful of nerds who tend to use the full rating scale, the same score tells you different stories about their overall reception. 6.xx for a popular seasonal is pretty much atrocious, while for an obscure OVA it's gonna mean it's one of the better ones out there.
I probably regret this post by now.

Killing Bites (it was so entertaining)
Kenzen Robo Daimidaler (one of the best comedy. A lot of people don't like perverted comedy unfortunately )
Black Clover (better than fairy tail, not as good as magi or seven sins though)

Chika Gentou Gekiga: Shoujo Tsubaki is pretty good. Sure it's not for everyone but if you like violent shlock this is the anime for you.

I don't get how Cossette no Shouzou isn't in the 7's anymore because this is exactly what teenagers would enjoy. It's again very violent but the story is decent too.

What comes to mind is Dragonball Super. It's at a 7.77 right now but I remember it previously being a 6 possibly a low 6, this was when I checked while they were recapping the movies and animation quality was a lot lower then later on. It took them till episode 28 to begin the first actual new arc so they probably lost quite a few people who just dropped it and left a low rating after getting tired of the movie arcs(most fans will have already seen BoG & RoF).

I utterly love Mad Bull 34. It is the perfect mix of violence, weirdness, and surprising heart. It was amazing watching all 4 episodes in a row with my friends.

Mayoiga is enjoyable as a total farce.

Hajimete no Gal, but only the dub. The dub is completely self-aware and makes the whole thing a lot more enjoyable than I found the sub to be.

Daimidaler is a fun and pretty hilarious parody of standard mecha fare.

Nourin was also fun. Very silly, like the eccentric cousin of Silver Spoon.

Di Gi Charat has a mid 6 rating, but I love it to bits. I'm 100% willing to admit that it's mostly because of nostalgia, though, since it was my first anime as an anime fan.

A NSFW example, but A Time to Screw is a guilty pleasure. It's totally awful and incoherent, but also somehow amazing. The humourous English dub also really helps.
