Should I keep watching MHA?

After people in many chats rec'd it for several months, I finally decided to watch My Hero Academia's first episode. I didn't really want to do this, as reading about the plot hardly revealed anything I found interesting, mostly just the protagonist training to be a hero and stuff.

Watching the episode seemed to confirm my suspicions. The premise was nothing above typical superhero stuff, of which I am not a fan. However, it is only one episode. Should I continue watching? Does the show change and drift away from hero training? Or is the first episode indicative of where it will go.

It does have some high points but to me it's mostly typical/mundane well executed superhero/battle shounen stuff.

If you like animation or battles for the sake of it then yeah continue but if look for a serious different approach to superheroes or battle shounens then I wouldn't recommend continuing.

It gets way over-praised for being an average battle shounen. I don't think it's bad overall (and 2nd season was better), but if it's not your thing, I don't think anything later on in the series is going to change your mind about it.

If you like superpower than yea, why not?

Season two, is a lot better than season one (my opinions), so I would say, its worth. x)

It's a very typical battle shounen storyline, from zero-to-hero, you have the determined charismatic mc, the hot-headed rival, the love interest, the mentor, the superpowers, the villain organization, etc, but done in a very solid and satisfying way.

I'd say keep watching it for about 5 more episodes and see if the storyline twists to your liking. I almost stopped watching it after the first episode for the same reason, but i continued months later and found that this "superhero" plot was actually decent. I'm watching season 2 now lol

I really like the show and the manga and would recommend it to people, it is really fun an enjoyable (to me).

however if, like you said the premise and setting is not something you like too much there is probably not much in it for you.
Yes the show gets better and better the longer it goes imo but it still is a pretty basic superhero themed shounen with a lot of superhero training so, no you should probably not watch any more if you really don't want to.

I mean you could check out one or two more episodes but I doubt they'll change your mind.

I would say it's very average concept wise, but very well executed and astonishingly enjoyable.

I'd say BnHA is one of those shows that is simply good at being what it is. It really offers nothing new or unique, nothing that we haven't seen before in other battle-shounen anime, nothing that doesn't crop up a million other times in plenty of other shows. It has your general character archetypes, it has your tournament arc, it has your useless-MC-gets-stronger-overtime theme. The difference is the execution. It's simply good at being one of those shows.

If you don't particularly enjoy the premise or have much of a fondness for this style of story in the first place, then there's not really anything in BnHA that would change your mind. It's fairly cookie-cutter from start to finish. If you're not fussed either way, then it's definitely worth giving a shot simply due to the aforementioned execution - it ranges from being decent to pretty damn great over the two seasons.
It's an entirely different kind of flying, altogether!

I found the first season very slow and boring, but the second season really improved. If you didn't like the first episode then it's best not to waste your time watching the remaining episodes.

I thought the same when I first watched it. But it is something more than meets the eye. I suggest atleast reaching season 2. It did kind of remind me of Sky High which was horrible but I assure you that it's a great shounen

If you don't want to watch it then don't, no one is forcing you to. With that being said I believe that its's a highly overrated Anime and don't understand it's appeal.

Should you keep pandering to the medium saying "this is so deep, look at that symbolism about love"?

If you think, yes, the continue watching it, otherwise, don't. I've heard a lot about BnHA being good shounen anime or whatever, but I truthfully haven't seen it. Although I know for a fact that, shounen typically focus on the battle side spectrum to keep young lads entertained.

I dropped Boruto for the similar passion because I didn't felt like I can get more into the series despite enjoying Naruto.

First season is *fine* but generic fare. Things get good season 2, "best shonen outside of Hunter x Hunter" good. If season 2 does nothing for you, the stuff that's going to be covered in season 3 probably won't change your mind, so giving up on it would make sense at that point.
TEN COMMANDMENTS:
1) If Evangelion and Psycho-Pass are his only 10s, he probably also worships Tool and smells like cheesy puffs 2) Freudian psychosis =/= good writing 3) Moe blob art style is only ok in pure slice-of-life comedy 4) It's ok to enjoy shounen. Having fun is allowed 5) It is not ok to enjoy isekai (jk, it is, I just fucking hate it) 6) Creator breakdown =/= good writing 7) A story does not have to be wrapped up with a bow. Life is messy, why would a good story need to be tidy? 8) InuYasha is proto-Twilight 9) Ecchi CAN be good, but is almost always an abomination 10) If God is real, They allowed Super Kid to happen, so fuck Them

I never seen that series but it seems like a Shonen type anime to me, basically, if you like everything on Adult Swim you may like this. I would watch maybe a few more episodes to see if you like this sort of series.
There are a lot of shonen/action anime fans out there so there are a lot of people who suggest you watch this series as well.

In the case of My Hero Academia, I would recommend you to watch the first 4 episodes, and if you still can't enjoy it, it might just not be your type of anime. However it does get really good later on, especially in season 2, that's why I'd recommend to just sit through 4 episodes and give it a chance.

You are obviously just watching the show to prove to yourself and others that you were right about not being interested in it in the first place. No way you'll enjoy it if you have that kind of attitude from the start. Giving a show a try means more than just double-clicking the file while staring at the screen. It means mentally opening yourself to what it is trying to do, being open to it and not watching it like a hawk, waiting to spot flaws or reasons for you not to like them. It doesn't sound like you ever gave the show a shot, so there is no point in forcing to continue.

Threads like this, where you have to ask that question, can almost always be answered with a general 'no' because they usually come from a similar place, of just forcing yourself to check out a series because of its popularity, but not wanting to like it from the start since you made up your mind about it already, and just want to shut up the people who tell you you can't judge it because you haven't seen it. Classic case of self-fulfilling prophecy and a waste of everyone's time.
I probably regret this post by now.

Why i asked this question- I wanted to know if I was missing out on it being much more than meets the eye. I thought that the show would be just typical superhero training stuff without much diversity, and it is hard for me to enjoy a plot like that. And I wanted to know if i was right or wrong.

And as for why I watched the show- Lots of people were saying that it was more than just that. And I figured "Why would they just be talking out of their ass?" So I decided to give it a shot. And I simply wanted to know if the show deviates from what i've seen so far.

I'm sorry if my question sounded stupid.

If you're not into the hero genre period then it's probably not for you. Granted if you're tired of shitty hero movies not have repercussions and limits to their power with the addition of a colorful cast and good social themes weaved into the narrative it gets stronger as the time goes on, especially in S2 and the upcoming S3 definitely.

Since you've only seen one episode I recommend watching at least a couple more. While at the most basic level the show is about superheroes, it is undeniable that very few characters in the show are actual superheroes. They may be called "superheroes" and "heroes", but having watched so many supernatural and magical tropes from various other anime, I didn't really see them as a hero. Think Naruto—he's got the powers and the achievements to be a "hero", but he isn't explicitly called that. The only difference in this anime is that they are called that. The word "hero" will pop up multiple times, but personally, this was no problem for me for the same reasons above.
