Finally, Violet knows what happened with major. It's good that she found out this in this episode, because in 1 episode probably she would don't know how to cry XDDD

Finally really good episode and a sad one. Beatiful short story, well felt a bit rushed not surprised at this point and still think it was really good. After seeing what Violet doing for clients i wonder if all/most of the Dolls helping like this and the amount or what kind of payment they receive.
Violet's progression is close to the peak, still feel like that with the fillers and skips in mind she could've acted differently, it's about time for her to know about major.

What a great development character by violet evergarden.
It's really impressed me, cause we know when the story begin violet appears with "flat expression". but slowly, step by step, from one episode to the other we made sure that violet is just a normal girl who's still learn to understand about felling, is that people felling, her felling or how to express and tell her felling to other people.and in this episode we know that violet slowly start understand about that.

And i hope for the next episode it will be better and better hopefully.

There's too many of these "client of the month" characters and their stories are too short for me to care about any of them. 16 minutes is too little a time. I know it's all about Violet and her development but i still wish we could stay in one arc for a longer period of time to flesh things out.

Then of course we had the last 4 minutes...damn. i wonder if the major survived.

It's weird to see Violet taking charge of a grown man and hiding his alcohol considering her obedient personality. Did she ever give it back to him? I just imagine him realizing as she's leaving on the train...

If I recall correctly, they adapted the first chapter in this episode. Pretty touching and captivating chapter, and this episode managed to do the same. It was great to see it being animated in this full glory, loved it. Best episode so far.

First Koi wa Ameagari no You ni, now this.... This week's Thursday is sure mind-blowing so far.

Just so everyone is aware, VE's rating is soaring considerably after this episode in anikore. It means Japan loved this episode. Lots of positive comments in 2ch as well. It had already recovered from the damp it got after episode 2 and episode 4, thanks to the last two episodes but this is the highest the anime has reached since episode 1. Sora yori, Yuru Camp (both tied at 2nd), KoiAme (now 7th) and Darli-Fra (now 9th) all got considerable boosts after this week's episodes. Overall, I have to say it was a good week for anime fans in Japan.

Off to see KoiAme and Yuru Camp!

Somehow I am not buying Gilbert's death, no body=not necessarily dead. He could have just thrown away his tag anyway and stay away from Violet making her "free". It was a pretty good episode regardless imo.

Best episode so far!
The way the lake scene was animated is wonderful!
Poor Violet, it seems like her emotions are crashing down all at once.
She first understands what Hodgins meant back then when he said she was burning, she starts questioning her past actions and the guilt is too much for her to handle only for her to also discover about Gilbert’s death, it sure has taken a toll on her.
I also think Gilbert is alive since we haven’t seen his body, but then again he could also be dead.

Can’t wait for next ep ~

So we got to the halfway point and this episode was kinda of an improvement considering that untill now the mini emotional arcs fell flat to me. But this one made me tear up a little bit.
Too bad this is not a two cour, I think Violet's development would feel more natural if we had the feel of the time passing.
Anyway I can't deny that by now I'm attached to the girl and felt bad for her at the end, but at the same time I feel it was a coward move to not have the Major really dead. I hope they don't bring him back, Violey grew a lot without him and I expect that now that she knows the truth she will have a more personal arc to deal with it.

Another episode with a generic tragic past like the previous episodes. The show is repetitive. There is no one happy flashback once, everything is tragic. It feels so forced. That's not deep, is just lazy writing. Now she know what happened to Gilbert when they had to tell her in episode 1. Great! 2/5

The only two anime that had the ratings going up every week since week 1 are Yuru Camp and Sora yori and they have been wrestling for the second and the third spot while getting closer to #1. Those two are the only anime that have been receiving constant appraisal in 2ch for how fun they have been.

Darli-fra was outside top 10 for 4 of the first 5 weeks (was jointly 10th after episode 4 but then again became 12th after week 5.) but now sits comfortably at 9th and opening up a gap with the one in the 10th (Clear Card-hen).

Despite of VE's rating going down immediately after episodes 2 and 4, it still maintained #1 spot throughout the first 7 weeks based on the impression after episode 1. Although it had pretty low reception compared to the original expectation up until episode 4 in 2ch within which only episode 3 having slightly more positive opinions, the last three episodes steered it back to the right track in Japan. It just got more solid after episode 7. So, it's not 6-7 weeks. It's been doing good since episode 5 (week 5).

Surprisingly, the most memorable part for the fans in Japan in that episode was neither Charlotte's letters, nor Violet's instructions, not even Charlotte's meeting with her Prince or Violet's meeting with Gilbert's older brother, but Charlotte hiding behind the curtain as a child would in her attempt to surprise Alberta yet coming out and telling playfully that she is now all grown-up. Maybe it was because Charlotte is voiced by Nakajima Megumi for how popular she is as a singer, or fans in Japan have other ways to see an anime than regular westerners.

Lol. But in any case, he was already a writer. The play at the start that Iris, Erica went to see was written by him. He was going through a writer's block after the death of Olivia.

Haha. I don't frequent those boards that often. The last time I did that during the run of an anime was when Hibike! Euphonium 2 was airing to see how it was doing in Japan. And after Re:Zero, SaeKano 2 airing ended (not during the actual run i.e.) to confirm the claims that Rem and Katou were really the most popular ones in those anime. So, I wasn't surprised at all when both of them came on top 4 (2nd and 4th respectively) in Japan's twitter poll as the most desired female characters.

I don't go to Yuru Camp and Sora Yori boards but just glance through them. I mean those boards are marshmallow-y fluffy boards where everyone posting positive smileys and other positive emojis. I don't even have to read the contents.

The last anime I checked were Princess Principal and Kemono Friends from last year after seeing them in 2ch's Top 10 Anime of 2017. Two anime I was yet to see (and still am) and I was wondering how they went under my radar when they are so popular in Japan. I was surprised how popular they were when I checked the boards, and so I wasn't at all surprised to see one of the two (Kemono Friends) winning AOTY at TAAF 2018 as announced the day before yesterday.

Most of the complains in VE boards were on how the anime did not meet the expectations of the fans placed on it based on the PVs. The comments on visuals, sound and animation have been mostly positive and hardly anyone is talking about the filters. I am assuming they got used to it. But these boards can be really unforgiving/confusing at times. A few good (or rather I would say 'bad') examples are the Darli-fra boards. The board with the most posts is full of sexual slang. But more than that, I am still confused why a certain character who is dubbed as REM 2.0 here in MAL has her own appreciation board and seemingly the most popular one right now in 2ch of all the characters of winter 2018 anime. I used to think in the past that pixiv or nico is the place which confirms the most popular characters, but I see majority of the character polls align to the popularity of characters in 2ch's. Examples are Yui (not Mio), Honoka and Hanayo (not Maki or Eri), Nagisa (not Kyou or Tomoyo), Katou (not Eriri or Utaha), Hanekawa (not Shinobu or Senjougahara), Rem (not Emilia), Krista (not Mikasa), Ai (not Haruka or Tsukasa), Kurumi (not Tooka), Saber (not Rin) etc.

Okay, I am going super off topic now. I will stop here.

Am i the only one who think Gilbert's brother has something to do with Gilbert's whereabout ? I mean he can't literally show up just for filling some backstory of Violet, right ? He also really despise Violet due to an event in the past which is contradicting with Gilbert.

I'm also interested to see the "Violet broke in to a building and she looks back as if she being chased" scene in the very first PV to show up in one of the upcoming episodes.

Hmmmm!!! The episode for today is nice, i mean the writer based his story on what he is telling to his daughter (when still alive). Its a nice thing also when violet try to do a specific scene from that story... CUTE!!!

But the one that made me shock is at the end of episode where Violet already knew that the general is already dead. (She xant accept that fact as of moment). Im not expecting that one... GREAT EPISODE!!!

To be able to make you get emotional through 10 minutes of a character and his backstory. Well done.

My lord though this episode was truly amazing. Violet running on the leaves was such a good scene.

Her emotions are coning out now. The scene on the boat was really good.

Damn that sucks that Violet had to find out about the Major that way. That was rough.

I liked the ending where there were simply no words.

It only can make you cry when you really care about it.

That would probably make sense as I have seen the obsession with cuteness is there for fans in Japan. It is why CGDCT anime are so popular in Japan compared to the west.

Coming back to the current episode, my expectation has really gotten higher for the anime after this episode. I am now gonna look forward to episode 8 of VE more than any other episode of all the ongoing anime because it might shape the season for me. I am not gonna lie. I originally came with a lot of expectations with the anime despite of knowing the director of KnK was involved instead of my favourites Yamada and Ishihara. But I was not blown out of the park. I am still loving it though and I still believe the anime can get a solid 9/10 for me at the end. But somehow I feel that episode 8 will play a major role for me to really decide whether it would really get such a high score from me.

Just because I am a huge KyoAni fan I don't throw nines and tens to whatever they make.

One of the very best we've seen so far. The music and visuals were just stunning.

Stories about parents and their children always get to me. Always. His daughter was so incredibly cute, parents having to bury their child is one of the most immensely sad things I could think of. Writing a play for her was a beautiful thing to do. It didn't hit me that the guy was the writer of the play at the beginning of the episode until he and Violet finally got to work.

When Violet jumped on the fallen leaves as he was reminded of his daughter really got to me.

Really nice contrast at the end there comparing current Violet to episode 1 Violet. We can actually see the guilt she has. Not only that, but also while she was typing the play. She felt empathy towards the main character. Really stellar episode for Violet herself.

I'm still sitting here stunned, just a powerful episode all around.

omfg the lake scene was so magical ... and the end with her understanding death was pretty cool (and sad)

damn these last 2 or so episodes have been changing my opinion on the show
before i was kinda "well ya its a popular story and with kyoani working on it it will probably have high rates no matter what, but i'm not really enjoying it that much..."
and now i'm like... it's actually a very nice show
favorite "new girls" from summer <3 ... click sig for older seasons and more possible picks (rip all the other choices)

A lot of you are saying it's the best episode, just makes me feel like maybe I'm not feeling this anime like I should?

I thought the ending was interesting.

Stories about parents and their children always get to me. Always. His daughter was so incredibly cute, parents having to bury their child is one of the most immensely sad things I could think of. You are so right. No parent deserves to bury their own children. It's one of the most heartbreaking things of life. The moment she started walking towards him with her first steps, and then hugging the teddy, I couldn't control my tears. I have seen that part so many times already. And every single time my tears come down my cheek.

As someone who’s close to my dad, this episode brought out the feels for me. Although my mother never died, I felt like she figuratively “abandoned” and treated me horribly, so I was always more attached to my father instead of her. Parent-child relationships always give me feels, but there’s a severe lack of positive father-daughter family relationships in media. Definitely tearjerking.

Witnessing Violet forced to accept Gilbert’s death... ouch, I knew it’d hit her hard, but I never expected she’d get to the emotional capacity where it’d hit her this hard. Good to see her finally crawling out of her hole of social ineptitude, and coming to terms with her emotions. Emotions are unpredictable, emotions are raw, especially when you’ve been suppressing them for so long, she has every right to let them out.

I’ve watched a few of those, and they had some nice depictions. Three of them are also other kyoani productions, so I’m partial to that of course.
In the long run of things anime is better than western media about doing it, I guess.

Anime does it better when it comes to relationships with immediate or even extended families. I can somehow say it is also because Anime is Asian. The feelings are different. I feel that people in Asia value family more than those in the west and they have closer ties with their family members.

I am really fond of my mother because she has been my best friend throughout my life, and I am really close with my father so I cannot imagine how it would feel like being abandoned by either of them. I am happy for you that you are close with your father. :)

Off Topic:

This song always gets me really emotional. And it was a song dedicated to a father-daughter relationship.
