She emotionally manipulated and preyed upon Ecchan's emotions. Ecchan being desperate and in distress is entirely Hanabi's fault.

Just like Akane's behavior "spreads" to those she uses and hurts, Hanabi's behavior is spreading to those she uses and hurts.

Ecchan...ugh. Her love for Hana was pretty pure (the backstory was good) but now it's disgusting. Now she's a stalker and molester. She knows Hana doesn't love her and is becoming a slut but still chooses to love her.

There's no such thing as "pure" love. Love is sexual attraction. "pure" love only exists in anime cliches. What Ecchan is doing is not necessarily right but she is still a better person than Hanabi or Mugi.

I've read the manga, so I already knew where this episode was heading, but damnit, that doesn't make my heart break any less watching it.
I really don't know why I cry in every episode of this anime, but I do, and it's so painful.

Still can't get over how well made this series is - the direction and soundtrack and everything...

With each episode i get more confused
Like the story is well written, the characters, their actions, their thoughts, all of it but in the mean time i do not approve of the characters actions
Akane is a very good character she is a wonderful villain she's breaking Hanabi in millions of pieces and that's why akane is a wonderful character
But in the same time i hate that Hanabi wants to act as bitchy as Akane is
AHHHH the struggle so i don't know what to feel anymore about this anime

Pretty interesting episode I should say. Everyone in this episode is literally depressed. Hanabi just know about what Akane does, Mugi feels cheated by Hanabi, Ecchan is betrayed by Hanabi.

But does that make Ecchan's not rape scene before more clear? And yes, yuri gets by solely by being yuri. Do you really need justification or context for chicks banging?

You're better off watching/reading yuri hentai if all you cared about is yuri action. It would be much better for you.

After 6 Episodes you still think there will be an happy end for all Characters?

Yes, easily. They just have to move on and change and that's all it takes for a happy end. The sunlight always come out after a storm.

'Moving on' just doesn't mean anything. One should first find the proper way before it. Well, it is still questionable if 'proper way' does make any difference.

Man the characters of this show would make great Remnants of Despair, because all i see waiting for them and everyone the interact with is exactly that, despair.
At this point I´m just interested to see how far down they will go and if Hanabi will be able to best Akane.

The title really matches this show... It is excellent. I wonder how it will end.

But I am getting a bit fed up of people attaching Ecchan's sexuality to her when discussing her. Calling her the "creepy lesbo" is not exactly right. You may see her as creepy, and you may call her actions questionable and bordering on rape (which I agree with, partially), but her sexuality has nothing to do with that. If you find her disgusting because she is creepy then I understand, but if you find it necessary to bring in her sexuality then it is like saying: "that creepy straight person". It just doesn't make any sense.

I really don't have any favourites in this show. All the characters are equally as unlikeable, but I do feel like we will be made to feel sympathy for all of them at some point, which is why it is so twisted and your favourite character can change within seconds.

Ecchan sees Hanabi's weak state, her inability to do decisions and passes a little revenge plan, which definitely will go wrong. And when that happens, well, who will be first to solve all the problems :) So Ecchan is a pro manipulator and she knows how to get stuff done. Anyway epic series.

This is where Ebato becomes too annoying for me, so pushy. I don't like her, frankly. She's way too pushy. Homosexual or not, that's not good.
I really like Hanabi on the other hand. She never forces herself on others despite getting as awful as she gets. Whatever she does is out of mutual interest. But then again, so does Mugi and Akane, Akane being the worst in this department.

Finally Moka episode next week. I love her development. I like to compare her with Ecchan as both are friends of respective MCs. Except Ecchan started sweet, ended up awful. Then Moka is someone who started naive but ended up having a good understanding of her, it's satisfying.

That's not true. It would be true if Ecchan were a naive girl and she was thinking that Hanabi accepted her feelings, but from the get go Ecchan new Hanabi was with Mugi and she new Hanabi didn't have feelings for her. Like she said, she is just taking whatever she can from Hanabi. Ecchan is not desperate, in fact she is being manipulative because she knows Hababi is weak right now.

Hanabi really think she took advantage of Ecchan on that day cause she think she used Ecchan's feelings just to ease her loneliness, but i don't think it's hard for her to see that was not the case.

How...? You do realize she was the first one who started this? You know, the first one not being able to control her emotions and being desperate while forcing a kiss onto her best friend? It's entirely hanabi's fault for being cute and too tempting when she had a sleepover and was sleeping close to her friend. Right. Not to mention that Ecchan was wanting Hanabi to use her like how she used Mugi and she continued to go after her by stalking her and just approaching her at the right time. She's using Hanabi for herself too. Actually, she has always been thinking about herself. Don't put all the blame on Hanabi. You're making it seem like Ecchan is a lot more stupid than she is. You treat her like a child while blaming the adult for any influences because a child cannot think for themself.

And no, are you really going to say Mugi is worse than Ecchan? He's so much better. He has great self control and he's always aware of what he's doing and things going on around him. He may have horrible thoughts but he doesn't act on it like Ecchan. He thought of wanting to ruin Hanabi but he controlled himself from going far extremely well. I think future episodes will prove he is actually one of the better people in the show. Despite being used by someone in the past as a toy and he's blind by love. He still very much cares about the people around him. You can justify Ecchan as you much but the action speaks for itself. Fact is she's causing pain for the one she loves and making an excuse that it's Hanabi's fault because she's this way is god awful.

Fai said:
Likewise even if Mugi and Hanabi end up in "real" genuine pairing, I don't see it lasting. Because it would be too boring and too genuine for either of them to be satisfied.

Why would it be too boring and unsatisfying? Let's say they could actually be with the ones they love. Would that be too boring and genuine for them to be satisfied? No, because they get to be with the one they love. Now, if they somehow discover that their love for the teachers are false and it wasn't actually love but a different kind of feeling and that they actually love each other. Why would that all of a sudden make it too boring and making it bad because it's too genuine? They're two people of the same coin. Both scums and both aware what they're doing. They understand each other the most and relate to one another the most. Why wouldn't things work out? Maybe not at the moment because there's obstacles blocking the path and they have to clear them first but let's say. They both changed for the better. They got rid of any unhealthy relationship and got over their unrequited love. They both became better people by moving on and improving themself. What would be wrong if they wanted to start that new life with each other and support one another?

I mean, look at how similar they are and how similar the things they do.

Both have unrequited love.
Both love teacher figures.
Both have childhood friends that love them.
Both used each other for the same reason.
Both used other people for the same reason.
They both came back to each other and knew what one another did
Both has randomly craved for each other. (Karaoke scene with Mugi and Rooftop with Hanabi)
Both cheated on each other.
Both has started seeing each other a lot differently compared to the beginning.

They have the most unique and best chemistry.

Feelings are feelings even if they are not good ones.

It's part of human nature to want to have different experiences which is the same as experiencing different feelings. It's like fear, fear is not a good feeling, but people still do things that make they feel this feeling just for their own enjoyment.

In the case here, the fact that the anime is causing you some anguish and sadness means that it was successfully able to connect with you. So it doesn't matter what is the feeling the anime is causing (sadness, anger, happiness) as long as it's causing strong feelings (other than boredom) you can greatly enjoy it.

Sadness is actually a good feeling to feel to...that's why drama is so appreciated by a lot of people. People pay lots of money just so they can read/watch something that will make they cry.

Since Hanabi's trying to match Akane so much she might as well do me a favor and start with Ecchan, whom she's scared to tell her to buzz off ~ at least she'd get some of the self-respect part down. And it wouldn't even be that awful. She "manipulated" Ecchan's feelings because Ecchan wanted to be manipulated. She was practically begging for it because she wants Hanabi that much to the point where she doesn't care how she gets it on with her.

Well, this is when things are getting increasingly heavy, and rooting for people becomes more and more difficult. Let's see how many viewers jump off the gravy train, and how many stay on.

I can only repeat my original suggestion: Consider Kuzu no Honkai a character study first and foremost. With a wide array of unrequited love relationships experienced by many different types of characters. And the harder they try to get what they cannot have, the murkier and unfulfilling things get. And so, they naturally get less and less pleasant for the viewers.

Though I still have to say that I still root for Hanabi. She's currently on the wrong trajectory, but at least she is self-aware enough to realize her mistakes. Doesn't change the fact though that she's currently walking through a black tunnel...

Come this ep, it's become an unholy mess ~ and it's freaking awesome! However, I do hope there won't be too many eps like this where a bunch of characters each go after someone just for the lulz(that's how it started to look after a while during this ep) and narrow down the focus a bit.

We could start with diminishing the screentime for Ecchan already ~ there's only 6 eps left....

I still don't get why people like Ecchan. Sure, you may relate to her but do you relate to her being creepy and her actions so far? If she was a guy then people would already calling sexual harassment and rape but because she's a girl, it's more forgiving. Like, fucking geeze. She's creepy as hell and this is a friend of hers we're talking about. I never liked her in the manga or in the anime. She was always portrayed as a creepy lesbian and was forceful to me.
Agreed fully. I guess people like creepy/obsessive characters in anime/manga.... but I think Ecchan takes it a step too far with the sexual harassment. I find it funny that people could hate Akane & like Ecchan. They are both ****ed characters in their own way. I'd say Ecchan is even worst.

Anime started off so well but then... I was totally feeling Ecchan until ep 4 and now it's just like ugh, what a terrible way they've written her. Like makes no sense. Her character starts off LOVING Hanabi but now it's like I just want her physically? And with it being so obvious Hanabi doesn't want those things? Cmon as if you could bear to put someone you really loved through that sorta pain.but yeah, like other said, I suppose it wouldn't make her a scummy character if they went down that path. What a disappointment, anime went from a 10/10 ep 1&2 to like 6/10.

They've actually written Ecchan well. You see Hanabi made Ecchan the way she is after Hanabi used her in episode 4. Now Ecchan loves Hanabi for the sex and less for actual romantic reasons. Although I do not like Ecchan anymore, her character is well done. Sort of like how Mugi was used for sex by his middle school friend and then now likes sex. I agree is obvious Hanabi doesn't want it but Ecchan doesn't care, yet again because she loves her only for the sex.

That's not true, Ecchan was like that already and she was the one who started everything by kissing Hanabi on her bed. The only difference is that now she knows that she can get something from Hanabi simple because she noticed how weak Hanabi is right now.

She was obviously scared of confessing her feelings that's why she was so reserved before, but now that she already confessed and got something from Hanabi she is not scared anymore and she is trying to take Hanabi to herself even if she needs to break Hanabi a little.

The fact that she went to talk to Mugi just so he'll think Hanabi is cheating on him proves that she is anything but a good girl. Next time she is alone with Hanabi she will try to leave another mark on her just to Mugi see...are you telling me that she became like this just because Hanabi accepted going to bed with her? Hell no.

I give up on having some sympathy for the characters (in fact i was only betting on Hanabi and maybe on Mugi too), but after this episode everything ruined...fml
At first, i was cheering for Hanabi etc but now? I see that it doesn't matter since they are actually retarded and Hanabi is becoming a "cheap" girl like Akane.
I thought that she was the only one to be normal... guess what? I was wrong...

From now, i will simply not care about them.

How could you feel bad for Hanabi at this point? The girl is making calculated decisions at this point. She has an ulterior motive now. She is knowingly worsening her situation to (basically) get back at Akane. Naive since this is exactly what Akane wants her to do.

I personally can't feel bad for Hanabi at this point. Honestly, I couldn't feel bad for her from the start. She has been scum since the get go and now is becoming a pseudo Akane...knowingly so for basically revenge while simultaneously trying to fill her self worth void. I'm under the assumption that she hasn't allowed herself to see Ecchan for what she is because she is blinded by the "pure friendship" factor of their past. Something she literally has with nobody else and is desperate to hold onto that facade being the only technically stable relationship she has with a person. A complicated issue I'll concede to.

Akane is a hoe and a broken soul herself. That isn't going to change.

Mugi showed his true colors at the end of this episode with Moka. I mean he straight up called Hanabi...his gf...a tramp. Moka can't be sympathized with either. She knows Mugi is "with" Hanabi, requests a date, and ultimately accepts the context of the date. Again, as long as her romantic void can be filled then the surrounding parameters are irrelevant. I'm on the fence with her until we see the dialogues during this date but I'm not expecting anything more than scum decisions.

I'm writing Ecchan as a stalker at this point. She knows she has a power position over Hanabi and is exploiting that. This girl is trying to nuke the field (friend and foe) and pick up the remnants of Hanabi in the aftermath to keep her herself in the end. From what I can tell she doesn't care about Hanabi's psyche...at all.

Tl;dr every single character is scum. Every character is faithless. Every character lacks morals. Every character is full of despair. Despair breads more despair and, as a result, this will continue to become a deeper, darker void. Fuck this show and no one deserves happiness at this point!

Man alive did I call it. Hanabi is going to go after Akane via the revenge route. Here comes the path of destruction by her using everyone in her path. That means actually (fake) going out with Mugi, dating ....that guy? Letting her friend be possessive of her? What the fuck is going on?

Never did I imagine it would get this bad. Holy hell. First she tells Mugi to actually go out. Then Ecchan not taking no goes and uses Hanabi and tries to ruin things with her and Mugi? Now Hanabi is trying to go whatever with that guy?
Oh, and Mugi is going on a date with Moca.

It's a "use everyone and leave no one sane" free-for-all. Christ. This episode went from a recap at the start of the show to straight up nuclear war at the end.

Lastly, the one thing that bothered me was a line that Hanabi said. Akane knows her self-worth. However, Hanabi needs ppls opinions to know hers. That was sad. Almost to the point where if she loses to Akane again, or worse, losses everyone, she may end up suicidal.

I've never been so conflicted on what to feel for characters and how it should end.

I disagree. Yes they're all being scum, but... Hanabi and Sanae are both savable.
-Mugi is empty but either Hanabi or Moca could save him.
-Moca is a pure child who doesn't really get drama and stuff.
-Sanae could be saved if Hanabi isn't blackened (though like me, she can be bewitched to the point where even seeing your love blackened is thrilling - love them nonetheless)
-Hanabi can be saved if she allows Sanae or Mugi to save her, or if Narumi stops being a stupid fuck and acknowledges her (getting his eyes off the whore).
-Akane needs to die, or at least gtfo (i wouldn't care if she was brutally slaughtered, but her hardcore bitchness serves as just the catalyst you need to make those bewitchingly twisted outcomes).

Hanabi is pure and honest, and that's why she's getting twisted by everyone and making stupid decisions to fill her honest desires. She's not scum, just making scum-like decisions, and learning the thrill of being "on the dark side". I wonder if her virginity will survive everything...

This show is going to keep getting darker, but i have to wonder if it'll continue until they all break, or if there will be a fantastic happy resolution. It's not like japan to make depressing ending anime, but it's not unheard of (and there's plenty notorious VN's with mostly only bad ends). I'd personally love to see this get so far in the pits then manage to rescue itself, but seeing how far down the drain they go would be satisfying in it's own twisted way.

I still think Sanae should stab Akane; she needs to wake up and smell the ashes.

i am seriously in love with the soundtrack of this series... has anyone heard any whispers of if/when it'll be released?
Most anime have their OST's released on CD. You'll have to wait. It may come with the BD releases.

tfw people will defend someone who commits straight up sexual assault because she is a lesbian/her actions make psychological sense.

Everyone else (except Moca) thus far are all bad people too but at least they understand that "No means no"

Hanabi doesn't even completely reject Sanae, she's mostly confused. If Sanae made her move before Hanabi and Mugi ended up using eachother, Hanabi probably would have been with Sanae. Sanae would have been happy, and Hanabi probably would have grown feelings for her... But that's lush and beautiful and romantic, that's not dramatic and edgy. That outcome would be too ideal, we can't have that. I mean this is a dark drama about misfortunes and moral ambiguity.

That's why it appeals, why it's doing what anime don't often do, and doing a good job of it. It's deliciously corrupt.

I sincerely doubt Hanabi would have developed romantic feelings for Ecchan especially if Ecchan acted this aggressively without Hanabi feeling guilty for using her before.

She would have in the same manner she's beginning to change with Mugi.
Hanabi had no idea Sanae really loved her.

The difference here being that she and Mugi mutually chose to enter this fake dating relationship/real physical relationship. I don't see a scenario where Ecchan makes her feelings known without unwanted sexual advances. Mostly cause I don't think Hanabi has any potentially romantic feelings for her. Like she mentioned, she was just using her for physical pleasure.

For many people love brings possessiveness. It's not like Ecchan doesn't love hanabi romantically anymore, it's just she can't let her go.Ecchan was at first insecure about her feelings but got the upper hand with Hanabi when she discovers that her friend can't say no to her because of friendship first and then guilt. Once she is "on top" in the relationship, she hears a "no" but she just doesn't accept it, it's too late. In real life that's not uncommon in asymmetrical relationships. It's not uncommon either that the victim takes the blame and feel guilty (in domestic violence for example).

I think it's pretty well written (even if it goes fast) and this hideous side of love is something that's not explored that much in anime because hey! we don't want to see some pure beautiful love turn into stalking, unhealthy obsession and borderline sexual harassment even though that happens sometimes in real life.
A reason more to admire this story and this anime even though that's not pleasant.
