Another good anime is over. This ending was good and emotionnal. It's too bad that Pine died to save Chiyoko, I would appreciate to see them together :/. I am surprised by this show, I waited nothing of it but the story with the time travel hooked me.

Pretty enjoyable though at times forgetable too. I liked the ending. Especially since they did the Cheermancy dance.

I'm not really sure as to why Guriko did all this in the first place, though. Even when your friends can't understand what you've been through it doesn't mean you can blame/hurt them for it. Or ya know. End humanity. lol

I was so so positively surprised by this anime! I'm not really into this kind of stuff, the sense of humour at the beginning was quite bad as well, but oh, how much did I enjoy it! One really has to focus to get the time order right, so even though we didn't really have character development there (not at all) and Guriko's motives are still a mistery to me, I was never bored for a second. I really wanted not to lose the logic of all the time jumps and I guess you could question if some of Yuta's decisions later on should have changed the future differently, but nevertheless, the amount of randomness, which actually filled almost all the gaps (freaking mecha in the end: Ito's devotion to computer games also found it's place in the storyline) and the main motive of soul... awesome, awesome, never imagined I would enjoy it so much.

Some questions tho-

1. First, what's the deal with Chiranosuke? Does he forgotten about all the events that happened so far and turned into a normal cat? If yes, then how and why?

2. Does Yuuta's (Pine) embodiment soul forever stuck into that infinite loop?

3. I don't know much, but does an alternate ending exists in this w/e video game or LN? If yes, can someone explain about that ending then? I mean, being happy and truly peaceful one, where Yuuta doesn't have to sacrifice himself and everyone gets to live...

1. We don't know Chiranosuke's full story yet . I would assume it has something to do with the dark spirit that possessed the general. xSanox is right that at some point (as an adult cat) Chiranosuke uberfied then was kicked out of his body by another spirit. The cat knows about EVERYTHING going on in the timeline we just watched so it's pretty safe to assume he's deceiving Pine/Yuuta for some sort of end game.

2. There is definitely a loop. It is either incredibly complex (requiring 3 Yuutas or more just to complete) or still to-be-determined (we don't know for sure if the truly happy ending has been found -- even if they find it they would still have to kill Pine at least twice to copy the events perfectly). Chiranosuke mentions Pine "laying a new track" but could mean he lays the track that the Yuuta/Pine who follows behind him rides on. Sad.

3. From a storytelling perspective we will eventually see the truly happy ending with continuation of the series in some sort of media; game (which seems to be what everyone is mentioning), more anime, OVA, etc.

I see. Thanks for answering it.

6/10.

mediocre beginnings and it only finally starts to get good at eps 9 and 10.

the art was clearly chosen to pander to western audiences, in fact this entire show felt like it was aiming for the kill la kill audience.

at least they killed the MC off.

Pretty damn sweet ending, frankly. Loved the oh-so-rarely used "I won't let you sacrifice yourself; Live with your sins for eternity" ending.
Because if you didn't realize it, that's what happened; Guriko's plan was fo everyone to go back to their own bodies, she dies while the other two live happily, however Pine (in Chiyoko's body) left her out of the whole swiching bbodies circle and decided to inhabit the dieing body himself.

Just explaining in case someone doesn't get what happened back there.

This anime is too underrated. That's why I mostly hate western audience because they literally make fairly good and underrated anime look shit and barely gives hope for them to make another season. Every anime should have another season even if it's bad whether you like it or not.

My rating for this anime is 8.3/10 (recommended)

That ending was great. Well really did not expect to let Chiyoko live by giving her body back. Sad that Pine died though. Chiyoko was cute on her original body. Truly one of the hidden gems of its season. Have no regrets having to go on through all that fanservice.

The end of Punchline was profoundly depressing. Don't get me wrong, this series and its ending were amazing. Definitely my top rated show of the season.

However, the end was also profoundly depressing. Yuuta is forced to re-live the death of Narugino and his* own death infinitely. An infinite number of Yuuta's save the world only to disappear forever.

Even if in the next iteration's Yuuta keeps Narugino's body from dieing, thousands of Yuuta's before him suffered beyond imagination. Not once, but twice, they were forced to watch as everyone they loved was killed, before disappearing into nothing. This iterations ending was bitter sweet, and those after might be better. However, the cost was Yuuta utter agony lived a thousand time over.

Great anime. Nowadays it's rare to see 1 cour anime with story (almost) fully wrapped up like this. I guess the rest of mystery will be explained in the game.

My only doubt is, can Yuuta write all the instructions and fax them within 7 minutes? It seems quite impossible..

So I just wanted to know once yuta went back in time after those 49 days everything he's done until then will be erased as he's trying to create a better timeline. Is that why he waited 49 days after leaving to go back in time so that everyone could enjoy themselves having no fun and what not . My friend is saying that these are separate worlds and that the timeline we saw would not be destroyed as yuta went back in time.

It might be related to this
http://www.providencezen.org/49-day-funeral-ceremony

"When someone passes away, in addition to a funeral service that usually occurs three or seven days after the death, we have a ceremony on the 49th day. Traditionally, the period of 49 days after someone dies is seen as a time for that person to check their consciousness and digest their karma. According to Buddhist teaching the bodhisattva Ji Jang Bosal helps the deceased during these 49 days to perceive their karma so when they return they are reborn to help this world, rather than continue in the cycle of birth and death. Religious Buddhism teachers that there is a life in this body, then a time of investigation or consideration, and then a new life in a new body."

The plot left quite a lot of questions.

-The reason why the spirit Chiranosuke exists is hard/impossible to understand.
-Guriko's sudden face turn at the middle of the episode is too abrupt for his antics beforehand. His motives were hard to fathom too.
-Why did Yuuta's foster sister send that suit?

Additionally I have questions myself stemming from not understanding the anine enough, Who is the man who tried to kill Ito? And what happened when the asteroid exploded, wasn't the aim of the mission stopping the missile fire? And wasn't it impossible to destroy it?

7/10 for the series overall, the enjoyment in the late episodes was overwhelming but the last episode is a bit...strange.

Actually it didn't seem like an ending, it seemed more like a reset from which a storyline starts, which makes me think that there is more to the series than the animr. Does it have a companion novel or video game or something?

1. The reason why the cat exists probably because something happen in the future, maybe like the Korai's house got killed later.

2. Guriko actually still loves them, that's whe she still have the ring. The motive is to kill human, she got trauma after being experimented.

3. His sister is quite eccentric, I don't see why she can't send the suit

4. The man who killed Ito was the teacher, he is quite insane

5. The mission is to destroy the asteroid, Meika explained why it's possible

6. It reset the story but at the same time it is not, this time the Yuuta from first episode will have happy ending or you might say true ending? Yes it will have a game, more story on the cat might be explained.

Definitely a series of what you wouldn't expect, at all. I love those series.

Took me a while to understand who was in whose body, but I figured it out in the end. I also found it really confusing with the information passing, especially when Guriko started to mention that his information were lies.

Would rewatch just to understand the information passing.

It took me a while to finish this. I just simply couldn't bring myself to watch the last 3 episode, that boring was it up to episode 9.

Then i decided to finish it, and i honestly got my hopes up seeing ep 10,11,12.
Everything was fine up to 18 mins. Then they succesfully managed to ruin the mood they built up to that point.

I was to raise it's score. But i can't forgive this ending.
A generous 6/10.

This was the one thing in the series that made absolutely no sense to me, why wouldnt Chiyoko accept the W "upgrade" to save her life? There was no implication of mind control, they essentially were letting Chiyoko die for no particular reason.

At times, this series blows my mind; at times, it feels incredible mediocre, and no, I am not referring to the beginning of the series which I thought was fantastic in its humour. I am talking about the badly executed drama and a lot of things happened without much sense in the final episode caused by rushing and for the planned ending.

Still, I am gonna give this a generous 8 because it has been entertaining. Kind of sad that Pine died in stead of Chiyoko though.

They killed off the MC and everything is a paradox. Not my thing. I like things to actually end, not the idea of this whole story repeating time and time again...

This shit started off slow as balls and the ending was the definition of disappointing. Just kill off the main character when he FINALLY has a chance to make everything perfect? Really? Oh, but it's okay because 'he' still lives and has infinite chances to do things perfectly again. F that shit, none of them are the guy that DESERVED the good ending.

Can't even say it was worth it for the fan service either, which is why I originally picked this up (I blame preview articles for that). The intro was the most reliable source of anything scantily clad...

Panties as offering to mourn Yuuta.
Shame Yuuta had to die to save the original Mikatan (not willing to take his own body back), probably the easiest way to end the anime though.

I gotta say ... this started out as one of the most random and meh anime to one hell of a show.
It picked up so fast after episode 6? (I believe) and it just kept on getting better.
Has got to be one of the most underrated shows on MAL and I'm pretty sure it's because of what I just said, first half being random and just ecchi.

I'm glad I stuck with it (not that I ever drop anime but w/e) and just gained a new favourite anime to remember.

Amazing episode.

It takes a true man to let himself die in a woman's body. RIP Pine.

Felt weird mourning two people considering what happened. lol at the pantsu.

Chiranosuke?

Felt weird looking at Chiyoko's pantsu considering Pine was in her body.

I see Ito fighting those bullies in the pool. I hope she gets them back.

What started as a "WTF did I just watch" turned into an awesome story that made me want to keep watching. Such a sad yet good story.

A nice and memorable end, to have Yuta die and instead of his body, he chose his friends atonement. Guess Yuta's gonna reborn just like chiranosuke.

mh...... i kept thinking they'd figure out some way for him to still live,
so in the end, the best guy still died,

felt kinda dickly that he just went "you have to live and repent for your sins" instead of just taking back his own body and the two could continue to live happily. .....i've a hard time deciding if MC was an asshole or not in the end,

still, a good anime, with an interesting ending .w.

When you want to borrow ideas from Hamatora with all these superhumans from laboratory but can't handle serious theme of evolution and interspecific struggle. When you want to implement something from Darker than Black with "dark contractors in army" theme for your final episodes but only for some useless action. When you want to be in shitty trend with "I'll change the past!" from RE:Zero in the same pathetic way with a cat-spirit. When you can't even sleep without using Kokoro Connect concept of body changing but used it in a wrong way. When you heard something good about Stein's Gate but you haven't enough time (or brains) to use facts instead of "cat-spirit said that I can't /place anything you want/". When the whole your anime was extremely stupid and inadequate from any point of view but you know that there are plenty of freaks which can be easily manipulated with your famous author name and with some unnecessary from plot perspective dramatic deaths. "It's just business, nothing personal" - obviously said author of this anime to himself every day since release of this garbage for people which weak in spirit and mind. So, among the questions left unanswered, Yutua's spirit was setup not to look like his main body throughout the series only to hide the fact he wasn't in his main body from the start. Also, was it ever mentioned why there was a bus hijacking in the first place? My first guess was to lure Strange Juice out, but then they stopped targeting her from that point onward.

It took itself a little too seriously in the second half, not that it wasn't interesting and sometimes clever. Animation and action was zany and fun, but the pacing and the focus of the first 6 episodes was superior to the last 6. I think they set things up really well, but some of the transitional episodes (7-8?) felt a little clunky. Loved the character designs. Overall, this will probably stick in my mind for a while.

I don't understand why Yuta de-uberfied or why Chiyoko uberfied. I feel the ending would have been better without that. I'm sure I'm missing some reasoning, but it seems so pointless and purely "because plot". Is it just so she can be in her original body and that's how the creator wanted it to happen?
