| I think if a yandere character is actually developed well, and their descent into obsession and bouts of manic insanity are somewhat justified instead of them being that way "just because" can make a show more interesting. I mean, what is most likely the first thing people think of when Mirai Nikki is mentioned? Probably Yuno, right? Because no matter how overdone the whole survival game thing is, her character was well done and kinda rescued the anime imo. When I think about it, most yandere characters are actually female- I can probably count the amount of prominent yandere males on one hand, and whenever they are introduced, they're seen in a more dangerous, abusive light than their female counterparts...like they're taking advantage of the weak, terrified girls they are pursuing. I guess female yandere characters are more romanticised? Probably because of the second class sex thing...like the belief that women can be powerful and intimidating to an extent, whilst still not having the same caliber of power as a man in the same position. In turn, this makes female yandere characters "safer" than male ones- the danger they emit makes them sexy, but not completely dangerous and unmanageable. Were Yuno and Yukki's roles reversed, I feel like the situation would seem less attractive and even more abusive to a lot of people! |

| I like watching their reactions usually. I like Yandere males, but its not really a big thing in japan and have only a handful of books/drama cds/visual novels/ and manga with MC male yanderes. I don't really LOVE female yanderes, but i think they're pretty interesting to see in an anime. |

She want to get to know you. She is stalking you. You never need to worry shey could cheat on you or call it a day. I see only positive characteristics. So where is the problem? |

| Yandere is one of my favorite tropes, for the same reason I like most psychological characters. But in the end that's all it really is, just a trope. Definitely not something that would be at all a good thing irl, I sort of understand the appeal that they are extremely loyal to their obsession but I think it should be obvious that if someone was that obsessive irl they would get locked up pretty fast, lol. It's a great archetype when used in the right way but just having someone killing people off out of pure jealousy, or killing off compettition ect. is petty in my opinion. For me to really enjoy a yandere character i have to understand, at least to some extent, why they are that way. Another thing to consider is what defines yandere, to some that may mean they actually have to kill someone, and others it's used to define any character that obsesses over another character to the point of mental instability (My definition). An example of a yandere I think was done right is Ukyo from Amnesia, although him being defined as a yandere can be questioned because he's a case of split personality. The most popular yandere is obviously Yuno Gasai who I have a love/hate perspective of her character, she has reasons behind what she does yet I personally don't think that they justify her actions, and while I do feel for her character, I can't really understand her. Overall I'd just say that it depends on how the writers want to portray said character that makes him/her likeable to me as a yandere arch-type. |
