Which year or years of anime did you enjoy most and why? Almost everyone has their favourite period of anime, whether it'd be because of the particular animation quality of that time, great storytelling or simply because a ton of great shows were consecutively coming out during that time. For me, 2006-2008 definitely takes the top with shows like Baccano, Death Note, Gurren Lagann, Code Geass, Higurashi and Spice and Wolf, all of which I consider to be some of the greatest anime I've ever seen.
I'd love to hear your opinions.

I'd say somewhat between the 70s and the 90s, as some of the best art styles and animation happened during this time period.

Mine is the late 80s to mid 90s period, when a lot of the anime that defined their genres came out, examples being Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon and the original Gundam Wing.

I try not to even think of golden ages anymore because I just wind up overlapping with nostalgia and other happy things going on in my life during those times, so that I'm not making as objective of a choice as I think I am. There are plenty of anime from all sorts of eras that I like going back from the 1970s to the present and I'm a-okay for enjoying them as they are rather than putting a specific period of time on a pedestal.

For me the sweet spot is something like 1980-1995, give or take :)

Before that it didn't really "feel" like anime yet, a bit too Disney. Nothing wrong with that, but before my time.

After the late 90s sterile soulless digital animation started setting in, those big anime eyes became creepy and glassy rather than expressive/comically useful, the colors got too bright and artificial (again, the mark of digital), bad CG, emo stick figure character designs, inhuman looking women with unrealistic fanservice tits, etc.

2010-2013

It seems like every few years there's a span of really good anime seasons, one or two really bad seasons, and then it picks up again. But the 2010-2013 was the one that lasted the longest.

EDIT

Now that I think about it, even if the 2006-2008 span was shorter, it did have more rewatchable stuff.

Hmm probably circa 2005 most of my faves are from around that time.

Peach Girl (2005) (my all time favorite)
Aishiteruze Baby (2004) (close runner up)
Chobits (2002) (3 years off)
Full Moon Wo Sagashite (2003)
Lovely Complex (2007)
Nana (2006)
Paradise Kiss (2005)
Kanon (2006)
Clannad (2007)

So yeah, around 2005, give or take 2 or 3 years, probably the best age of anime for me. Though I like much much older stuff as well as current stuff too!
