Worst Case Scenario: Which Anime Studio Is the Next to Go Bankrupt?

Six months ago, Hideaki Anno the creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion predicted that the anime industry in Japan has about 5 years until the industry's demise, and that new industry will bloom in other countries in Asia or even North America.

The story didn't end here; Studio Manglobe declared bankruptcy 3 weeks ago. Along with the decrease in BD+DVD sales in recent years, this in certain ways backs up Anno's claim. So, as the title said, which is the next? Silver-link? Production-IG? Studio-Bones?

Well there are a few that won't go bankrupt any time soon: JC Staff, Ufotable, A1-pictures, Toei, Shaft, Gainax...

I cry if Gainax goes bankrupt. I would just look at a picture of evangelion and cry.
Brace yourself.

Soon as LotGH 2017 comes out. The anime community is going to become so cancerous you will need to take cover and hide.

The Gainax who made C3-Bu and Pleiades are not the same Gainax who made Evangelion, Gurren Lagann or PSG. You've got literally nothing to be sad about unless you actually like the crap that Gainax have put out recently.

Dunno about worst case, but IMO the most likely is AIC, they have like a bajillion subsidiaries all making ridiculous amounts of nothing, so they smell distinctly of skeleton operation already.

White Fox are probably up there as well.

do you have a source for this? as far as i know profit is not the main problem of the anime industry but staff members

anime has a big profit last year http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1421080

there are too many anime being produce but there are less and less new anime staff possibly because of the very low starting salary and overwork condition too

source:

The report also predicts that Manglobe's bankruptcy will likely cause a stir in the anime industry. Although the number of works produced domestically continues to increase, it has become more difficult to find a primary contractor for animation production. Production staff and animators are becoming limited, and production schedules often collapse. There have been instances where actual production costs exceeded the original budget. http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1433800

imo it might be Gainax next considering i do not see them animating enough anime now a days

Decrease in BD + DVD sales? Have you even seen Love Live's numbers? They're ridiculous. The most recent Live BD sold nearly 50k in a week.

Gainax just because their talent has been transferred to Trigger.

I hope Pierrot should bankrupt soon so they`ll stop milking Naruto.

A-1 Pictures must bankrupt because they made way too many anime in every season and they waste too much money, they should stop milking Fairy Tail as well.

Madhouse won't go bankrupt. Every anime that they make sells always well or 4k+ and are a lot popular their shows (ex: Death Note, NGNL, Chihayufuru, Death Parade, etc...).

Maybe Passione. They dared to make all the anime fan angry after all, the situation is bad, the sales is extremely bad. They dared to take a non-generic source material, dared to not add moe blob, to not add ecchi shot, to respect the original work, to not rush it, to not exagerate everything to make big explosions and flashy sword flash everywhere. And without changing the chara design that were very far away from anime standard. The balls. This cannot be forgiven. How dared they to try something different.
If they want to redeem themselves, they're better off do a generic ecchi battle school harem fantasy next time. Maybe they'll be forgiven enough and it will sell. Maybe.

I mean they won't go bankrupt but selling 4k when you put as much money into the animation as they do is probably going to be a loss for you unless you price those blu-rays damn high.

I sincerely doubt the industry would meet its demise. It might take a huge hit over the next few years and end up with a very small number of studios, but completely disappear? I doubt it.

Taken over by another country? Perhaps another country's animation industry could grow larger than Japan's. Very likely. But its viewers would still mostly come from its own country, at least for the next 6-7 years or so (maybe it could boom and have a global outreach in the future, like anime did over the last few decades).
If your favourite character is Tsutsukakushi Tsukiko, you are my soul mate.

Been a long time since I've been here, I'll continue expressing myself freely and believe everyone should too.

Rokka was pretty much devoid of any form of fanservice. And this is clearly reflected by the sales. That's becaus ethey respected the original work that wasn't made with pandering to the audience in mind.

It is also the same company that made Rail Wars! the girls with giant boobs and obligatory bad engrish and panty shots. Them going away would help further save anime.

Production IG will definitely not be the next to go, they are doing well.

More likely the newer studios trying to break into the industry.

Regardless 5 years is not that long, I dont see anime going away that soon. At least a decade off.

Already owned by the biggest private Japanese Television, NTV!

Also I believe a lot of other studios are also owned by big guns, like TMS that is owned by SEGA Holdings.

In terms of situation, day time anime is doing almost as well as when it started(in 1961), also it looks like it will keep going for a long time like this.
Late night anime have a more unstable situation, specially with the current bubble. Though I highly doubt that it will die/fall in popularity in the next decade either.

What? White fox is doing pretty well nowadays, GochiUsa 2 and Utawarerumono is having excellent sales. The only things that sold badly enough to don't cover the cost of production was Akame ga Kill and Tears to Tiara, but it wasn't that bad since they could make up easily with another shows.

OT: Studio Pierrot is facing some troublesome moments for now. Tokyo Ghoul, Akatsuki no yona and both Baby steps season went pretty bad on sales. If I had to ''bet'', I would bet on them.
