discuss. Do you think we are alone in the universe?
Why or why not do you think so?

Think about it... we are just a blue ball spinning around in a circle. Above us is a void of nothing but darkness, that could be endless.
Do you think it is endless? Or is there a limit on how far it can stretch
Is this where you live?

Hmm....

Do you think we are alone in the universe?
The universe is ridiculously huge. There are approximately 100 billion galaxies, and our Milky Way Galaxy alone has around 100 thousand million stars. Life as advanced as Earth life is probably out there somewhere, but the distance between us is too great to communicate with each other.

Do you think it is endless?
Who knows.

with how many earth like planets are discovered every year, there will be at least 1 planet other than earth that can sustain life even if its just micro organisms, what scientists have not yet invented is this kind of telescope

Highly possible there exists life in other universes, so as to our own, we may be the only one, though we may well not be as well. I certainly am not against the possibility and many scientists and astro-physicists seem to suggest a high chance of both.

Pretty much what I was gonna say. I think there are definitely other "humans" out there somewhere wondering the same things we are.

We simply don't know yet.

It's likely that even if we're in fact not alone, we won't come into contact with them.

Alone'ness, is a personal judgement. You can be in a crowded room, and still feel alone. You can exist in a crowded and multi-species Universe, and still feel alone (even though a off-planet alien is tapping on your shoulder, to introduce himself and shake your hand).

But you've also asked a separate question, with no relation to the title of the forum. Is the Universe endless, or does it have a limit?

My take is that the Universe we live in, is an empty pocket inside of a much larger super-Universe, which has much more mass than the matter within that 'pocket' we call our Universe. That explains why the Universe is not only expanding (that part of it we can see), but that our Universe's rate of expansion is increasing. It's all going to collide with and coalesce with the larger blob of matter I call a super-Universe.

It allows for a Universe that works properly via good old gravity, without the need for dark-matter or dark-energy; something that is taken by many to be a fact, but in reality, no one has proved its existence. Dark-matter and dark-energy is merely (so far) a theoretical device, to explain why galaxies are spreading out from each other, at the accelerating rate towards whatever is the outside edges of the three-dimensional Universe.

It continues to leave the question of why solar-systems are not spreading our, and dismembering the internal galaxies; hanging in the distance without resolution.

Just my take on a weird question. Please don't panic (grin)!

Most likely yes.
However, the existence of other lifeforms in the universe is more likely than the existence of a god, so the probability is not zero.

And yes i believe there's life out there. Considering the unfathomably large size of the universe and the number of stars and planets, to think that Earth is the only possible place life exists is asinine.

Considering how huge the universe is, I doubt there isn't any other kind of life. Maybe we're the only intelligent life out there, but I doubt we're the only type of life.

Even if Earth is a rare type, rare things can be found all the time.

I like to believe that we are not alone in the universe. Main reason is it's vastness, but then again I might not understand how rare of an occasion life creation can be. If universe turns out to be infinite then that would pretty much solidify my confidence in the existence of other life than our own, even intelligent life.

ofcourse we are not, even Mars has water and i wouldn't be surprised if it has some bacterial life when they go there and thats all you need to potentially evolve into what humans are

there are talks about multiverse and infinite universe and such and infinity is so insanely huge that its impossible to comprehend

imagine a monkey sitting on a typewriter and pressing buttons randomly, if there are infinite number of universes then in some universe a monkey will have written an entire book of Shakespeare word by word and letter by letter. so try to imagine that, the monkey has 1/30 chance to type the first letter correctly and every time it fails you reset the universe and go to a new one until you actually find a universe in which the monkey has correctly written 1000 pages of text , letter by letter.

infinity is utterly ridiculous and even if the number of universes is finite but way beyond our comprehension, i still think its not possible that we're the only ''intelligent species''

the thing is that people think that life is "rare" but its not rare at all on planet earth and there is life in all kinds of extreme places, all you need is to start from somewhere and then enough time to evolve to somewhere

No.

But I don't really care too much about it. If they come here and it turns out they're going to destroy the Earth ooops. That's how it is. Till then I go about my business. If we are alone that's fine too.

No. The universe is unimaginably huge, it would be very self-centered and foolish of us to think that there isn't any other form of life somewhere.

This.

I'm pretty sure there are other life forms in the universe, but the question is when (and if) we'll meet them.

I doubt it. We can't get a grip on how big the universe actually is. It has to exist another life in other worlds. Just the thought of that there might be an alien world right now, and that things are happening in their world is thrilling.

Same. It's like those star size comparison videos.
I can usually follow along with them for the first few zooms then it's like my brain does a automatic scale comparison reset.
Now you're wondering if there's white text in any of my other posts.

Of course there are other life forms out there; it's retarded to think that we're the only ones existing in this unfathomably large universe. Maybe there is a near infinite amount of other near infinite universes, too.

But nah, we are obviously the only ones existing on this insignificant little blue fragment. Makes perfect sense.

We could somehow be the first species to develop into intelligent organisms, but it's more likely that we're not. I truly believe something else has developed before us. Maybe not a whole lot of it, but pieces here and there.

The universe is fucking massive, and old. Like, unbelievably, face meltingly massive. Nobody wants to think about how massive and old it is, because that would result in a existential crisis of the highest order.

I believe that there is a ton of crazy stuff going on all over it.
It's most likely that we're just so freaking far from it any of it, which is probably a good thing. Ever think about all the numbers that have to be exactly right for life to form? Staggeringly low odds. Like, 0.5 - 1 planet in a GALAXY odds. So maybe some life. But definitely not "teeming with life." I still think it's out there, though.

Most likely yes.

I've always found it interesting that some use the vastness of the universe to justify this particular topic, but reject other possibilities as if the vastness no longer matters.

It does not seem impossible to say that we are alone cause anything beyond our atmosphere, life is unsustainable.

But it is also does not seem impossible to say that we are not alone because the possibilities of having another planet that sustains life is endless. Since the universe is endless.

Yep, we are alone in the universe. (Atleast for now) We have neither found nor heard any other planet capable of holding life. We just assume that there might be some other being considering how vast the universe is. No one has ever proved nor seen any other life forms other than the ones surviving on earth. So we can just conclude that we really are alone in this universe until and unless we have prove or found some other entity on our galaxy or some other galaxy.

It's nothing like that. They use the vastness and the established fact that the universe isn't as hostile as we once thought to think that.

You're still irrational for believing in god no matter how hard you attack aliens.
