I sort of lost steam in my progress to watch FS/N:UBW because it just feels so cynical, and now I see Attack on Titan's studio pouring their majestic profit into Owari no Seraph and I'm getting ready for the same feeling.

Does anyone else feel like the biggest and most brute force super high budget shows lose charm?

It's like, being the most hyped show in a season where your budget is twice that of the second highest budget is like being the smartest kid in detention.

Not saying I will hate Owari no Seraph, but I expect that same irking feeling of cynicism and hollowness hanging over it.

It's not the money that is the problem. It's the fear of failure that comes with the large investment. At that point it often becomes a homogenized, focus-tested, design-by-comittee affair, like a Ubisoft video game or Transformers movie.

I'm sure this paradox is a well known aspect of many forms of media.

Kind of like how many rock bands became more bland and overproduced the more popular they got.

Don't know about the cynical part but all them "blockbuster" animes mainly consist of graphics and special effects simultaneously lacking plot and logic. Best example: Coppelion.

Yeah totally. I feel really bad when I enjoy a good product and then find out that they made it that good because they had money.
It's like I don't even have the right to enjoy terrible, cheap products anymore. They stole it from me, by making good products...using money.

It's like the people making anime are actually trying to deliver the best possible project for viewers. I mean, how can they be so selfish??

I feel empty inside, when capitalism takes over my anime.

Coppelion was considered a blockbuster series? That show was shit all around.

nah if anything anime needs more high quality animation, only KyoAni and Ufotable is consistent with that so far and both of them are small studios

Owari no Seraph looks like Aldnoah.Zero meets Akame ga Kill. I won't be picking it up until season 2 but I hope to see plenty of rage hype in the coming months.

No.
I actually find it really silly to dislike an anime (actually any pieces of fiction, really) when it's/will become popular (because this is what it's really about). It always reminds me of this friend of mine who used to adore this book, then as soon as it became popular he started not enjoying it as much, like the fact of being one of the few to enjoy it made it better somehow.

Seems like hipster attitude to me.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

Why can't all anime just have the same animation quality as Tokyo Ghoul or Mars of Destruction?

I am really looking forward to the next anime season. Stuff with high budgets is good because it looks pretty. There will always be some shows that stand above the rest.

Anime is good, fucking deal with it.

You just mad becuz you dont like that I criticize your fav animu

And DRRR!!x2 Shou's animation remained solid the first six-seven episodes. Comparing it to Tokyo Phoul Root A which only had one - I repeat, ONE - episode with decent animation is like comparing anything made by uFotable to ecchi harem crap like Absolute Duo

Would you have cared if I had written ''DRRR!!x2 Shou'' instead of TG? Would you have replied ''You forgot to add TG''?

Yes in a way, I don't like when a show gets high budget animation because it makes them so unnatural to look at, but it was cool the first time around.

I don't think there's any hope for Under the Dog to succeed. They have such lofty goals and are trying so hard, it just feels like inevitably something will be messed up. I don't know if that's similar to what you are asking though.

By the opposite formula

Shit voice cast + shit budget + obscure source material = Colorful and full of enthusiasm?

I don't care if the story is decided by a comittee or stuff like that, if the final product is good i'll like it, i don't friggin' care how it was made as long as it's good.

i think its a part of the evolution like movie, they need that for money.
But idk if they loose charme, the scenario isnt the greatest in exemple FSN UBW, i just like it for the graphical fight yeah...and every ppl is like that.
and if want the best scenario isnt necessarily the best animation...because they take risk with an original scen and there are small studio, animation is a trade so...
well i think they cant have all of the quality because we cant all love the same shit, when a show out getting all...Call me =D.

Just a guess, I think you just have a little too high expectations toward popular and high-budget anime. So when they don't live up to it, you find them underwhelming.
