Not everyone here believes we as humans ought to be put on the same level as birds or insects or w/e, and it just happens to be Shinichi's line of thought: that what differenciates us from animals (and here more specifically the parasites) is our humanity: the ability to feel empathy, to stand up for another than oneself. By helping someone who's in the shit, and he's trying to reaffirm his own identity.Oh hell, all the mixed signals. I can't seem to empathize with Shinichi for some reason. So yes, he did have ulterior motives when he decided to defend the Jean Kirschtein look-alike, because his decision was probably just a coping mecanism to deal with Migi's (and the rest of its kind's) own inhumanity than and reassure himself that he's not, and won't become like them. But it doesn't mean his behaviour it doesn't make sense. Also how was he supposed to predict the bullies would come for his ass again? He did stood up for Jean, but he wasn't their original target and he didn't fight. Heck, even the whole decision to help the guy was more of an impulsive act than anything else. Can you blame him for not thinking that far ahead? Going by your logic no one should help anyone for fear of potential future retaliations. Nice. And stupid denials? Srsly? It's his own fucking mother we're talking about. There's a huge gap between being told something and having to actually experience it. You think he's stupid simply because he's having one hell of a hard time accepting the fact that his mom's brain was eaten by a parasite, that the woman in front of him is not his mom, and that said mom is never coming back? this episode was bringing the house down for me, they way Shinichi was having a nervous breakdown when he's processing the fact that his mom was taken over, along with the dubstep, which I like very much, made the scene more intense. 10/10, amazing episode, hopefully it gets better on from here. |

That was pretty bad. I guess it was two different chapters adopted, the first one seemed normal, but for the second part, it's like the author is already out of ideas. The plot is now driven by ridiculously unlikely coincidences, and the protagonist has an inconsistent personality, all signs of the author not knowing where to go. |

Hell, the dude already has a lot of trouble acknowledging Migi as a part of him; how did you expect him to react to that? Come on, now. Come on. First, I never said everyone thinks like I do. That post was purely my own opinion, so I have no idea why you would even mention me saying it like I was representing anyone but myself (I specifically stated that "I" can't seem to empathize with him). As for the humanity argument. Read my post, I said I understood he wasn't in the wrong if it was in his nature to empathize and help others, but the fact of the matter is Shinichi was doing it ONLY to prove that he wasn't inhuman like Migi, which in itself is flawed logic. Come on man, Shinichi was doing acts that weren't in his own nature (the dude is naturally a coward), and it isn't naturally human nature to protect those around you if it puts yourself in danger (prove me wrong if you can). Any normal person with sense would have (a) called the cops, or (b) pretended to have called the cops and scared those bullies away, or (c) call for backup (i.e. more people, exactly what Kana did when he got captured the second time). What he did was purely to satisfy his own logic for protecting his classmate. In the end I stand by my opinion, he was a dumb fuck with no sense. As for preticting the bullies, hell yeah he was suppose to be on his guard. He had enough warning signs. Like I said, even his Sempais told him to be careful. I guess you could say he fulfills the normal person with the mentality that "Shit won't happen to me" until it actually happens to them. But come on, he's been facing a friggin parasite that ate his arm, other parasites that wanna kill him, and even some bully in his class that beat his face in. After all of the dangers he faced, you would think he would at least take a warning of danger from a sempai a little more to heart, no? As a normally cautious person, I find his "don't give a fuck" attitude a little hard to swallow. It has nothing to do with anything about "fear of potential future retaliations". He was WARNED and chose to IGNORE those warnings, simple as that. That's why he's an idiot. As for stupid denials. Yes, it's stupid. Why? Because if you were a logical person, with all the fucking signs presented to you up to then, the only logical conclusion would be that there is something wrong with your mother, regardless of how you feel. Your dad calls home and TELLS you that your mom's become a monster. Your alien right hand is telling you that your mom is no longer your mom. Your "mother" herself is acting all weird and has zero surprise when looking at your alien right hand, and what do you do? You let your guard down and walk over to your "mom" with zero caution. The entire situation is unbelievable, but "Come on, Come on". You're right hand got taken over by an alien, and you've been facing a crap-load of inexplicable shit for the longest of times. Even if you don't react favorably, you wouldn't throw caution in the wind and let him stab you right? Some people just think with logic instead of react to their emotions. I stand by my opinion because I truly think he's an idiot. Not everyone will agree with me, but similarly, you're opinion isn't the word of god either. |

That's actually what seems completely crazy to me. To answer the rest of your post, what bugged me with your initial comment was that it seemed like you expect the character to always have well thought out and perfectly logical reasonings behind his actions: it's almost like you'd want the protag to act like a parasyte. But that's not really how human beings work, cause we aren't automatons: oftentimes we do stuff that go directly against our nature, because of a change in our situation; we sometimes suffer from dissonance between our actions and beliefs; we sometimes contradict ourselves; we somtimes refuse to acknowledge truth that are right before our eyes. And that goes for intelligent, "logical" people as well as "idiots". I never implied that my reply was the word of god. Simply that we're inherently flawed, and what I don't understand is why you'd take a character acting like a human being for stupidity. |

5/5 Episode showing what was prophesied in the opening, I'm really sad. Shinichi is too weak psychologically, but who would raise a finger against his mother? Storytelling, however, intriguing and unpredictable beyond the death of the mother of the protagonist. Promoted again the soundtrack which I always find very in tune with the environment. The designs are not bad, I hope, however, that will improve in the BD version. Animations of discrete level, now I'm curious to see the next episode. Although this TV series, is one of the best of the fall season in 2014. |

And that goes for intelligent, "logical" people as well as "idiots". I never implied that my reply was the word of god. Simply that we're inherently flawed, and what I don't understand is why you'd take a character acting like a human being for stupidity. First off, you're post about a character "acting like a human" is flawed in itself. Denial isn't an inherent human characteristic, so don't make it seem like anyone and every one on this god forsaken Earth will do so "simply because they are human". Each individual is different, and not all people would react as Shinichi did. You're concept of "how humans really work" is your own opinion, and whilst you may be thinking that you are correct simply because that is what "you" would do, using yourself as the basis for ALL human beings on earth in itself is a flawed argument and simply arrogant. You do not represent me, you do not represent the greater community, you represent yourself and people whom you know to be of a similar nature to you, but that does not mean you represent a majority (can you even prove it?). Even humans can act logical "like a parasyte" as you so mention. In fact, I would find it hard not to act logical, but as I mentioned before, that's just me. It has nothing to do with my relationship with my mother or what not. Not everyone is so hot-blooded that they run solely on emotions, and thus would be "in denial" about things that totally don't make sense in an extraordinary situation. Not everyone in this world turns to "denial" as a defense mechanism when confronted by situations like that. Logically speaking, I don't see why I cannot have an opinion whereby an illogical person acting opposite to both in a flawed nature and against logic cannot be deemed an idiot. Just because you act "human" doesn't mean you can be excused for being an idiot. Secondly, you never did reply to all the facts I mentioned in the first two paragraphs either. Shinichi had all the facts put in front of his face, that he chose to ignore it all has nothing to do with being human. Not heeding a warning cannot be deemed as something "human". Fighting for the weak when you are even weaker, instead of finding some other way to solve a problem has nothing to do with "being human" and more to do with being an idiot. You never did answer all the facts did you? I guess that comes with you "being human" as well, now doesn't it? As for TripleSRank: "To consider people to be totally logical beings (or to even consider yourself to be totally logical) is flawed. Calling the guy an idiot for being in denial is an extraordinary/surreal situation seems just as ignorant." By the same logic, to consider people to not operate on logic is also flawed, and not considering alternate reactions by a character to a persons actions in an extraordinary/surreal situation is not only arrogant, but EQUALLY ignorant. I stated my facts and the reasons why I considered Shinichi an idiot, did you not read? How do you explain Kana calling for help when Shinichi did not, went in head first without thinking and got his own ass beat? By your logic, Kana wasn't acting "human" then, right? Simply because she chose a more "logical route? My opinion of him being an idiot has a lot more to do with just his denial. Try reading through an entire post before you decide to go calling someone ignorant. You're just trying to deny my opinion because it does not confer with your own. That is also human I guess. |

@L-Ryoshi If my previous reply came off as either condescending or arrogant to you, then my bad, cause that really wasn't my intention. But no need to be so passive aggressive: like I said I'm not trying to belittle your opinion or lecture you. My problem with your post was not that you'd expect Shin'ichi to act logically, but to do so in every situation, even when the circumstances would perfectly justify his not being able to think with a clear mind (i.e. the whole deal with his mom). Ofc every human acts differently and is accountable for their own actions, and I never implied otherwise (hence why I use "sometimes" when talking about how people may act). My post didn't imply either that I personally would act the same as Shin'ichi; I was simply arguing that based on what we know of the character, his actions do make sense. Yeah, I didn't answer the first two paragraphs, so imma do it now: I guess you could argue that his intial decision to directly confronting the bullies instead of calling for help was stupid, in a way. But like I previously said, him standing up to those bullies was most likely of an impulsive act than anything (or at the very least it came off that way to me), so he most likely didn't took his time to think about the best course of action. And yes, Shin'ichi's naturally a coward, there's no arguing that. However, him going against his own nature is understandable, considering the changes that occured in him since Migi became his right arm. Besides, you don't necessarily have a say in what your brain decides to do to cope with the crazy shit you're going through (i.e. having a parasite leaving in your right arm), so it kinda supports the idea that Shin'ichi's decision was very spontaneous. Add to that the fact that standing up to a group of bullies isn't, in itself, a bad thing, and you have my reasons why his behavior didn't come off as nonsensical to me. As for your second paragraph, I'm not too sure what you expected him to do after listening to his senpais' warnings. Something like asking him and his clique to escort him and Murano back home, maybe? If that's what you meant, then you're right, that makes sense as well. He could've asked, and prolly should have. Re-reading, the whole post, I think I get where you're coming from and why Shin'ichi could come off a particularly careless, or even dumb. I guess my biggest problem is with how you seem to think stupidity was also at work when he confronted his not-mom. |

Anyone who says Shinichi is stupid for being in denial, and not trying to kill the alien that took over his mother and looked just like her, must lack human empathy. Not only was she his mother, but he also carried around some personal guilt about the time she got burnt because of him. Understandably, he was unwilling to accept this cruel turn of events, and it clouded his judgment. Grief from the death of a loved one can make people act illogically; for the dead love one to reappear with someone else in their body must be a truly traumatizing experience and I would not be able to even begin to think rationally in that situation. Also, yay. Kana is finally introduced. I love Miyuki Sawashiro in this role, and her character design. My new anime crush. |

This episode delivered. The tension is starting to rise. Liked the new girl and the twist with the mother will make this roll, this show is now on a new course with this development since our main can no longer just keep trying to live a normal life. |
