Also, I have to say that I love the contrast between when Hisoka "played examiner" and killed those guys in the Hunter Exam and this episode when he killed Gotoh. Definitely a perk of the late night time slot.

Yeah it's better. :D
But in the mangas, he lost his head like togari and Geretta:

Holy shit Gotoh is dead, Hisoka treated him like a fodder lol, kinda short fight but amazing anyways,R.I.P ;-;

Tsubone's nen is awesome, i love Togashi's creativity!
That comedy bit with Amane and Canary, and Illumi's personal zombies army running were hilarious !

Oh the conflicts building and the stakes are high,this is my HxH <3

Narrator revealed! Lupe's power confirmed for long distance narration and mind reading.

Really good episode. I continue to love watching Hisoka and Illumi pal around and bounce off each other. And poor Gotoh, he didn't even last 5 minutes. At least he managed to surprise Hisoka a bit. That's something.

I'm really intrigued by this Seirin Group that Netero apparently belonged to. Manga spoiler:

I was so hyped up to see Hisoka vs. Gotoh animated and boy, was it AWESOME!!! Hisoka's Bungee Gum is such a simple ability and yet the way he uses it is just so awesome, I love it. And Gotoh trying to twist Hisoka's arms to death was also very smart.

Too bad he ended up dying in the end, I did like his character. And you could tell he was scared when Hisoka started giving him a riddle </3

Also, seeing Tsubone turn into a motorcycle was hilarious! xD

Good episode. What made this episode for me was that Amane and Canary moment~

The introduction to the Serin group was pretty interesting though.

Man I have mixed feelings on the result of Gotoh vs Hisoka. I really didn't want to see Gotoh die but I had to cheer on the star of the show without fail. His dark sense of humor always cracks me up even in those situations. That was awesome though, Hegemony of the food chain worked well in that fight.

Yesssss I'm so glad Amane turned out to be a short fuse just because of Inoue Marina. She has the perfect voice for those angry but cute characters.

Yeah... Gotoh was my favorite butler, but his death wasn't that shocking. Hioska is in a different league. ._.;

It looks like Killua's plan to save Gon is becoming political fast. I wonder what the other hunter commandments are. (I don't think they've ever been revealed, correct?) I don't like the vibes I'm getting from this anti-Chairman faction, either.

Tsubone's ability is strange. What nen type would allow that, anyway? Manipulation and transmutation seem to be the most likely, yet that still feels insufficient for a full body transformation in my mind. We've seen something similar with Bisky, but she was just concealing her age. This isn't even human anymore. Does anyone have some ideas on how this could be accomplished?

Hisoka is back and he's still amazing. As a Manga reader who is up to date on HxH, I thought this episode was well done for the anime. Hisoka vs Gotoh was nicely done. Amane <3

And I can't see the Seirin group and not think of the Kuroko no Basket team.

Great episode, very enjoyable. Damn, Gotoh really died :( Hisoka's too boss. I'm loving this Zoldyck family feud or whatever you may call it, it's very interesting but now that the Election stuff is now intertwined with the Zoldyck family feud. Very entertaining stuff. Great episode, I loved it.

I think it was a combination with conjuration and Transmutation.
Bisky is a nice example. Ikalgo's fleadom and Pouf's Beelzebub also a transmuter hatsu(though i am not sure about these ones).

there was a really good conversation on how he knew dragon dive a way back
to summarize he's seen or heard of the techniques but didn't associate them with Nen probably just thought there were Zoldyck techniques until he learned Nen

It was the same with Ponzu. They both got few episodes of screentime and got killed off pretty fast. Heck, at least Gotoh put up a fight.

What did he die for?

The sad and scary part about death is that some people die without closure, without saying goodbye or fulfilling whatever goal they ever had or giving a final emotional speech on a deathbed.

He died because Hisoka killed him. Simple as that.
Imagine if Hisoka spared him and said "oh well, you didn't fulfill much in the grand scheme of things -- pending approval"

It cheapens death so much if everyone gets the prolonged closure the audience thinks they deserve.

It adds a lot of realism and tension; you favorite character can die at any time and he may not even get to leave a legacy -- that would be the real death of him.

To me, this is much sadder, and leaves some feeling of emptiness, as death should.

Well said.

That is one thing I love about the anime, they go deeply into characters but they don't make it so that anybody is immune. Sure, we still have Killua, Gon, L. and Ku. but they went through a lot and suffered a lot... and we were right there with them. This series makes you feel a lot, but also, inspires you to think more, in a subtle way.

Still, RIP Gotoh.... you were awesome!

I guess Illumi is the main villain of the arc. Too bad Hisoka is just his pet.
