Screw Colt! Yeah I said it. Even with memories of being humans he still dutifully killed so many. I hope after he's useful in fighting other Chimera he's imprisoned.

I'm pretty sure these Chimera Ants are going to be around for more than this arc.

The Chimera have be the most overpowered creatures I've ever seen in an anime. Not for their individual strength, but for their reproductive capabilities. They can mate with ANY female?? They reach maturity in a few days and can learn nen in a few weeks??

Here's hoping their weakness is a life span of a year or something Lol

It's like humans killing animals for food, it's just in this case it is a superior species hunting us humans. I don't know if it was in this thread, but I said before that the difference between Colt and some of the other Ants is that he did it for his queen, he didn't do it because of some perverse enjoyment or something.

Besides, I believe it was this episode where the King has a quote that pretty much sums up the situation.

Is Colt gonna be in the Hunters team now? With his current power he is weaker than Gon/Kill, how the hell is he gonna help beat the king?

How would you know how strong or weak Colt is? He hasn't even fought up to this point.

Felt bad for colt. He is a very interesting character as he actually is committed unlike the other chimera ants even though he has the human characteristics the others have.

I don't really appreciate how they're treating the queen's death with sympathy. It's her freaking fault that the King is on the loose now. If anything, it's good riddance.

Is there a point I'm missing or does anyone else feel the same?

I always felt more sorry for Colt than anything, I like his character so I felt bad for his loss, as alien as the Chimera Ants are his reaction is akin to a child at the death bed of his mother......which is exactly what he is really. That's just how I look at it, though. Now I kind of see the scene in a different light that I can't really elaborate on at this particular episode.

Yeah... I really didn't feel bad for Colt. My opinion of him is pretty neutral, considering he still killed a lot of people. The rest of the Ants are crap as far as I'm concerned. Also, I wonder if that baby will end up being a new king/queen.

Netero got serious. That was a huge aura. Who could those friends of his be?

Oh, and... Kite?

See, it's important to remember that Colt (and a few of the other Ants) are doing what they were born to do. It's like disliking a hunter who is only hunting animals for food and nothing else, except in this case it just so happens to be humans he is capturing. He didn't hunt for the joy of it like Hagya or some of the others do, he did it for his queen and imo that makes a world of difference.

The main reason I would consider it different is because animals don't have the cognizance/soul/etc. humans do. I see the analogy, but that makes a big difference for me. I wouldn't be for killing any Ants that haven't killed people or other Ants that haven't killed, either.

I'm not saying it doesn't make sense. Instinct and all. That doesn't mean I'll like them for it, though.

This is how I see it, and I definitely sympathize with Colt mainly because like you said, he didn't kill humans for fun or to see them struggle like many sadistic chimera ants. I know people always bring up the sentient argument but you gotta do what you gotta do. The chimera ants have to bring food to their Queen because it's pretty their raison d'etre, at least while the Queen is alive, and so they do it. Obviously many others are just terrible, terrible chimera ants, but Colt isn't one of them. It doesn't matter if humans are sentient or have a soul, the Queen wants to eat humans so they do what they were born to do, to serve the Queen. Colt is particularly one that I think people can sympathize with because he was at the very least, selective when choosing which humans to bring back. He didn't harm the children and even told the others to be selective about it. And lastly, although he didn't say it out loud, he promised Morel that neither he nor the baby will eat humans. I doubt Colt ate humans anyways since before I remember Rammot being pissy about having to eat inferior food such as horses.

Honestly I didn't really think about the ethical/philosophical issues this whole chimera ant thing had until I read the posts here. It's always nice to see what others see and what I may have missed by reading the discussions :)

So, just to poke a bit, do you consider Chimera Ants to be animal or human? (or neither/both?) You seem to be leaning toward regarding them more as animals right now.

Just some food for thought~

Hmm that's a good question. I think of them as...humans but with an animal-like basis, if that makes any sense. They are "humans" because they are sentient creatures. But they have foundation based on animals (or like ants/bees) because they are born with the urge to follow the Queen's orders and know exactly what their duties are. Yet they are still more like humans since they do stuff for their own enjoyment and kind of even question the system, and they definitely thought for themselves when the Queen was dying. Just my quick take on your question.

Another great episode. They attempt to the combine there efforts with netero's group to save the queen. But are unable to.

One of the interesting things bout this episode was the ending though, when all the chimera ants to decide to go carry out there own ambitions and become kings of separate countries.

Then the big moment is when Meruem (can i say that now? lol, yes i can) flies over to east Goratei to occupy the city, given the fact that mereum does not want to be holded up in some dusty nasty ant nest, it shows that he's more of an eloquent individual, similar to humans.

Interested to see how things will pan out. I don't even know what that baby/demon fetus was suppose to be, Kite scared the shit out of me, and next episode seems to focus on Palm "quivers in fear".

Overall it was a good episode as usual, but is anyone else finding it hard to feel bad for the Chimera Ants after all the bad we have seen them doing? This episode just didn't really hit me emotionally like it seemed it should have, I know they aren't all bad but it seems like the way they have been represented (or at least how I have perceived them to be) is vicious and ruthless.

Right from the beginning you can see how some of the chimera ants had very different personalities such as colt. I never ever saw him as some sort of antagonistic villain character. Even from the start, i always though something was off bout him, he was very different to other chimera ants that just wanted to eat humans and that wanted to kill. This was even briefly shown during the part where one of the chimera ants wanted to kill the child and he spared his life.

So right from the beginning togashi knew what he was doing with these characters and what sort of traits they would carry in the show. There are other chimera ants that are similar, that don't portray a gruesome evil intent to kill. The chimera ants are like a separate race, a species adapting and learning to there new life and changing in staggering ways as they learn more, such as when they learned the ability of nen and this is further explored to a huge degree later on.

I felt some sort of sympathy for colt, but it wasn't ground breaking emotional. But i can understand, looking from there point of view and how there adaptability to survive and i think this is how togashi wanted to portray this to the readers/viewers.

Wait, is Palm that girl at the end of the preview when she wash herself? They were talking about a date with Gon. That's just so weird, for someone as innocent as Gon.

Uwaaah I... I love this!
This turn of events, everything can happen! Their fights and struggles are not gonna be restricted in NGL alone.

The moment with Colt and the Queen had me in a dilemma. It's such a natural instinct to be touched by the process of birth and death, but considering what they've done I also didn't know what to feel. But Knuckle and his master were so sweet, those tough guys with a soft side are always a delight to see. In another hand, glad that the queen will not reproduce anymore though.

I think this episode, and this arc so far, is pretty terrible.

My initial perception of the show was an 8, went up to 9 after so many episodes, and this arc is doing a great job dropping it down to 7, and maybe even 6 if the arc doesn't get better.

Whole arc feels like bullshit with the piss poor attempts at trying to make viewers sympathise with the ants, but I guess that's kinda expected considering the treatment of the mass murderers in Greed Island arc.

Starting to realize its just a food chain thing, humans are livestock to the ants just like a pig or chicken would be to us. Due to phagogenesis the ants have developed specific personalities which have come from what you could consider a previous life almost like reincarnation, some are evil and some are good in a way but it depends on if you can look past what they had to do to achieve their current forms.

Oh God, I cried so hard at the Queen's death...and Colt vowing to protect that tiny baby in his palm. And him lying to the Queen about her son. Acting like her son actually cares about her. The feels were so strong in this one. I never expected to feel this way. I mean, the Queen still caused a lot of suffering, but seeing how much Colt cares about her really got me. Colt is Best Boy.
