----------------------------------------
A dark tower where the weak succumb to their fears, collapse, and cry while cursing the world. Nice sanctuary.

Saint-juste revealed herself here to be pretty messed up, and not because of the smoking (lol at "it's bad!"). She carelessly threw knives right past a living person, clearly aware of her presence but not even bothering to keep open eyes. Furthermore, she ordered the already shocked and frightened Nanako to grab the knives, a new object of fear, while simultaneously revealing the targeted outline of a second living person. This puts Nanako, otherwise alone in a dark place, in the position of giving lethal weapons to a person with clear homicidal thoughts and no regard for Nanako's well-being. Saint-juste could easily be characterized as sadistic, cowardly, and unwilling to reform.

Motiveless about-face by Tomoko. Lucky for her the appropriate actions were so blindly obvious she didn't need a reason.

Kaoru's flashback to Rei's past was awful. I cringed when she caught the basketball without looking. It was such stereotypical 'coolness'. The loose thematic connections to a literary version of unrelated historical events was also bad; clearly the author was just too interested in the French Revolution to resist referencing.

^ The manga this series was based on was published in 1975 so it's understandable that there will be a lot of elements in the series that will be considered cliched for this day and age. That being said I did have the same reaction to that flash back scene. Saint Just is sort of my least favourite character, her overly theatric character annoys the hell out of me.

Anyway, glad to see the two reconciled though I still want Tomoko to call Mariko on her bullshit at some point.

Its obvious Saint Juste wrote that M-sama business on the wall. There is no denying that the two had a relationship in the past, Miya broke her and now she is all... psychotic. Saint Juste is a bit over the top about it all though… I mean… the part where she throws herself against a window after they speak to one another. Its odd... and kind of makes me laugh in a "Wow, that's kind of awkward." way.

The flashback was cliche but it is interesting to think that this was the time when things were being written only to be redone over and over again later in time. I couldn't help but say "Oh wow, they actually look like girls (sorta) when they are younger!" but still it's not much.

These characters are starting to seem more like real people to me, and I was damn well pleased to see the two friends again. It'd be sweet if Tomoko just set this whole thing straight.

Saint-Juste is a tormented soul!

I prefer Tomoko over Nanako, coz she's a tough girl. and mentioning of Robspierre reminded me of Le Chevalier D'Eon :-D

Saint Juste is such an M. M for messed up, M for masochist. Miya clearly has her wrapped around her finger.

Saint Juste is pretty messed up.

On the other hand I'm happy that Nanako and Tomoko made up I thought it would take a while, but I guess not. Tomoko is one of my favorites in this next to Prince Kaoru.

Finally, Tomoko is friends again with Nanako! At least it didn't last that long, I hated that part in manga.

I loved scenes with Kaoru, she is such a complex character, it's hard not to love her <3 Probably the best character in the entire series. Hopefully she will appear more often in future episodes. For now I can't wait to see next ep with Mariko playing the lead role, it should be interesting.

Also, I really love that Nanako's "catchphrase" at the end of each episode is "dear brother, there is no end to my tears..." - sums up her personality perfectly :D

Finally, Tomoko is back. I was starting to hate her attitude but everything's been solved when she faced off the redhead and her two minions. And the hug scene was so beautiful too.
I wonder what will Mariko is going to say when she sees Nanako and Tomoko together again.
Kaoru is still the best girl.

Looks like the younger generation is repeating the older one. Rhyming. A cycle. Hope they learn and not be bitter by the end.

By now you should've realised it's a melodrama! :)

i cannot believe how beautiful this anime is, i keep expecting a boring part in every episode, at least one. there's always a token boring part, or so i had thought. god, it's so good. i cried somewhat, haven't gotten that true RIP MY HEART TO SHREDS (why don't you) but it is pulling on the strings. my favorite parts were when nanako cried over the wall's writings, rei getting shocked due to miya touching her hand (one might say rei got electrocuted with that sort of reaction), and nanako asking if she can call tomoko. rei and miya's relationship is so puzzling and there's obviously been manipulation and hurt somewhere. it looks like rei can't stop loving miya and hating her viciously at the same time. miya is aware of this and must have kind of a... sadism for inflicting purposeful acts that ilicite rei's emotions to spark alive. i mean, the dude (would it be acceptable to call him a male? no but i'm gonna do it) seems to be dead the rest of the time until she comes into the picture. then he's like a grass blade flowing in the wind, bending to her every command. if she's a sadist, rei would be the masochist? iiiiiin some manner... right.

Wait why Nanako incinerate those free razorblades, those can basically be used to throw at her enemy's eyes with some training from Saint-Juste (especially with school doing nothing against bullying so she'll get away scot-free). Seems like the terrible friend Tomoko finally realised Nanako's situation over here. Saint-juste seems pretty miserable and by the looks of the writing on the wall I guess she had some relation with Miya.

The reunion at the end made me fucking happy and simultaneously apprehensive, like a five-year-old getting candy from a stranger; you can probably tell where the apprehensiveness stems from, it is that they'll now also target Tomoko..

I don't understand why Tomoko suddenly decided to help Nanako and make up with her.

She ignored her, then sees her during cooking class and decides to make up? Why?

She always had her doubts about what Mariko said, and every interaction they had since then solidified those doubts more and more. A theme of this show seems to be how people are exposed to the world, and because of that, people are easily influenced into ideas without fully understand themselves or he idea. It's interesting that Nanako and Tomoko seem to be the only two so far out of the freshman so far to be approaching their newfound expanded worldview in a different way from the others; it's likely due to the fact that they are 'outsiders' to some of their ideas and ways of thinking. People born in a society interpret their world different than people coming in after their world was already established after all.

Wow, these episodes just keep getting better. I'm happy for Nanako and Tomoko now that they're friends again. It was cool to learn about the past of Saint-juste and how she got her name, I was hoping that they were gonna make a reference to Versailles no bara when they mentioned the french revolution xD Great ep overall tho.

Rei about as broken as expected, but wow, it still astonishes me how extra her character is xD

And about time for the reunion. Even considering the nature of the series, I wouldn't have endured it for another couple of episodes.

Oh thank goodness. Now they can talk about wtf Mariko is up to. But I think what Mariko said wasn't the point. The point was that Mariko played on Tomoko's existing insecurities, so it's not like she wasn't feeling some type of way about Nanako being in the Sorority. She was. So I'm glad they've at least been able to address those feelings in a way.

Thank goodness Tomoko is talking to Nanako again. I hope that Mariko isn't able to interfere with their friendship anymore.

I don't think I will continue it. It is a good-for-nothing story. Let's just rewatch Versailles no bara series again, that will be good for my heart.

I started crying during the train scene... when Tomoko glanced back for the second time, only to learn that Nanako was already looking at her. I can just imagine the emotional pain Nanako must have felt leading up to that moment, knowing that Tomoko saw her first but decided not to approach or interact with her. A look of apprehension on her face... eyes welling up... the heavy sigh after asking Tomoko whether it would be alright to call her sometime, and hearing no response... the extended arm towards Tomoko's back after disembarking the train. I... it was so sad.

By some miracle, they reconciled at the end of the episode... so I won't need to cry myself to sleep tonight. Perhaps. But I'm happy they did!... I can't bear to see Nanako sad anymore. I hope they each shared their points of view over what had happened, since that was not in the episode, so that Mariko doesn't (easily) split them again...

Also, that flashback with Kaoru and Saint Juste was cool — hope to see them playing basketball. The background of Saint Juste's name is clearly foreshadowing, along with the knives scene... someone's dying, most likely herself, given both the sickly demeanor and the medication she is taking on the one hand, and the complete cognitive and emotional "impairment" on the other. She seems... "gone", as in, not simply "sad" or the like, but irreversibly "broken" since whatever happened to her. I hope I'm wrong though... she didn't do anything that warrants hate towards her character yet (maybe a little for returning the slap to my girlie Kaoru :P). I just wish they all could be happy...

My favourite is still Kaoru, and Tomoko has been second — in personality and character, but also in appearance. Actually, I could say that Nanako and Tomoko both share the second place, if that's allowed. In any case, I don't find Mariko that attractive... even though she is "conventionally" more (physically) beautiful than the others; but she is* ahead of Saint Juste...

omg FINALLY the conflict between Nanako and Tomoko was solved. Even still they never actually got to the bottom of it, Tomoko just sort of forgave her which I suppose is honorable. I love you Kaoru no Kimi.
