| I used to think blue/pink hair were kinda strange, and some anime really goes out of its way to make characters look unique. I've noticed, however, that actual black hair is kindof rare in anime, perhaps blue originated as a "shine on black hair" look. Pink hair is just plain odd though, unless it's very very light, in which case it could be a sort of "shine on white-blonde hair." I'm actually colorblind though, so some shades I never even notice to be odd. For example, I used to think C.C. from Code Geass was a blonde. |

| Because naming characters is overrated. I like to refer to my girls as Blue Hair Girl and Pink Hair Girl. But in all fairness, it's to make the characters stand out a bit more. To make every girl give bland blonde hair would be kinda boring. |

| They use the color to help people differentiate between characters. Since their facial structures and builds are typically pretty similar, they use fashion-sense and hair as the "Defining Features" of most characters. I mean, just imagine how slow the flow of anime each season would be if all artists for manga/anime spent timeless hours on each scene because each character had very detailed/specific facial features, and a very defined build. AmIRight? |
