Woah. So...Hirukawa is Taeko's father...and he's also the one who was one of Maria's clients...and then he wanted to interview Tsukiko to make some extra money...and he was the guy who stole from all those people to get money for the high school exams for his 17 year old daughter...who's Taeko...who he...watched? So he's a voyeur, a pedophile, a thief, a liar...and a victim? Um...okay. So how's he connected to Lil Slugger, Yuichi, and Ushiyama? Maybe he molested them in a past life. D:

And how does that old lady know Taeko? Wait a minute...that was Kawazu who interviewed Tsukiko, right? So where the heck did he run off to?

First attack was targeted to Tsukiko. But as it's seen in the episode she hurt herself. Then she created an attacker in her head and drew it on a piece of paper. In the end she is a creator :) But what's the connection between her and Shounen Bat.Also what about the connections between Shounen Bat,old man at the hospital and Tsuki...we will see i guess :) nice episode!

what i got so far was:

Kawazu wanted to find more stuff about Tsukiko
Masami Hirukawa is the father of Taeko
Masami is also the dirty cop that had 'relations' with Maria/Harumi
Harumi is the private tutor of Yuichi
Yuichi and Shogo are classmate rivals for elections.
All are related to Shonen Bat in some way (if any)

I am guessing the grandmother the cops interviewed was the grandmother of Taeko.

Now thats' more like it.
Taeko's father is such a dirty man, even spying on his own daughter? Or maybe not.
The old lady is the grandma of Taeko obviously.

Hell yes, Paranoia Agent is back!
With the previous episode I was afraid that this series' would go down hill but this episode has just revived the plot.
The same suspence and the same tense as the 4 firsts episodes and the mystery about the shounen bat is still complete.
And yet it used the same schem as the others episodes, focusing on a secondary character of the previous story. This time it's about the cop's daughter of the episode 4.

Hm, i was freaked out when i've finished episode 5.
I was like "wtf", they've caught him already :S

My opinion is that the "Shounen Bat" Doesn't really exist, and it's just in people immagination. We'll soon see if i was right.

Btw, i still don't get this line "Lost children are spectacular mushrooms in the sky"

Damn, i Like animes like this
They say there's no such place... as Paradise. Even if you search it to the ends of the Earth, there's nothing there. No matter how far you walk, it's always the same road. It just goes on and on. But, in spite of that... Why am I so driven to find it? A voice calls to me... It says, "Search for Paradise."

Whoa, so judging by this episode, Shonen Bat was just Tsukiko's way to escape reality o.o And then some kid who's played too much games assumed the role of Shonen Bat, making him more than just Tsukiko's imagination...
Also, ew at Hirukawa watching his daughter x__X Although I must say, I suspected him to be like that, seeing as he always demanded that prostitues call him 'daddy'. I didn't think we'd see his daughter however...

...Tsukiko INFURIATES me.

Ookay quite a lot of information to take in from that episode, this i definately not one those animes you can watch at your leisure, it needs full attention on each episode! Hirukwawa is a detestable character D: but I kinda thought something like that was going on when he asked his prostitutes to call him daddy :/

The way this is going i doubt lil'slugger really exists it seems to be just a fragment of peoples imagination, but we shall soon see!

This was a great episode. I loved the manner in which all the different story lines are interwined and connected so fluidly.

It seems like all the victims had something taken from them that oppressed them. In this instance it was the painful memory of that girl that got erased.

I didn't expect it to be herself.

Dang, everyone in this anime has problems and wanting to get away from it.

I really dislike that cop. What a creeper; it makes sense now that he wants the people he sleeps with to call him 'daddy.'

Wow, a lot of light was just shined on Hirukawa's daughter complex. Ugh.

And since four different versions of it were featured in this episode (five counting the ED), I want to take this opportunity to say that I love the main theme. So creepy, but it's been caught in my ear for the past couple of days.

Right from the start I assumed that people were attacking themselves (hence the title of the anime paranoia agent) but honestly I have no idea.

I'm really confused where the kid they actually caught fits in. He must do somewhere - as Tsukiko gave his description. Did he start wearing the rollerblades and carrying the bat after he heard about it on the media? Or no?

I'm also confused about Taeko and her role in this.

Yes. Something like that.

I'm starting to think the shounen bat... doesn't exist. o.o
(But then Taeko would've lost her own memories??)

Very interesting. Made up for last episode.

This series is REALLY weird! As in, weirder than Diabolik Lovers, which we all know was really effed up. Somehow I like it? I really want to see more of that kid Ichi and the other one honestly.

I'm kind of really annoyed that the anime is just fooling around with a whole bunch of comedy of this delusional kid who was apparently the Shounen Bat. The comedy with the video game feels misplaced in this type of anime, and I'm still super confused and curious about what is going on with the mystery.

Just like how I love to read horror but hate to watch, listen to, or play it, I sometimes enjoy watching mystery anime. But this one is really trippy. Is anyone here mentally stable? Ichi and Shounen Bat certainly aren't.

Well, this is definitely the most realistic anime I've watched in a LONG time. It's just been UtaPri, DiaLover, Ouran, and Love Stage!! before this.

Oh, as a side note, I NEVER EVER EVER WANT TO SEE THAT LADY AGAIN. The one that was Maria and also the tutor and also the red-haired girl all at the same time somehow? Maybe she has DID. Something is not right with her. Anyway, her makeup smeared face or whatever is freaking terrifying to me. So is Shounen Bat's smile when he was standing in front of Saga earlier. This anime is really creepy.

Taeko isn't the grandchild of that lady, the lady that visited Midori is. The old lady only relation to Shonen bat is that she saw Tsukiko make the whole thing up.

Wasn't she talking about how her grandaughter was a daddy's girl and then it cut to that girl doing things with her dad. So they're different yet similar? I mean they do have different mothers apparently, the mother in the flashback is frail and the mother at the end looks completely different. Guess it makes sense, just an odd way of telling a story. Similar yet different, thought they were crossing from the granddaughters point of view while she was doing things and editing so the similarities in conversation had some similarity.

i was watching the intro, which haves a lot of hints of what is going to happen and characters to yet appear(this is the first time watching it and i didn't advance more than this, so i don't have spoilers to tell) But i was watching the background of all the panels, where you can see natural disasters, like the flood at this episode. And then near the end i see this thing that kind of looks like a funcking bomb exploded, and well...maybe something like that happpens

Oh gosh no...please...no perverted fathers installing a peeping camera in her daughter's bedroom...oh gosh.

So at first I was thinking that there was no reason to question any more of the victims/witnesses but apparently shounen bat might not actually be the only one hurting people.

I AM SO CONFUSED!

So Tsukiko made up the first attack. I DID find it suspicious that everyone else was in critical condition, while she only had her leg hurt.

Then they called Shounen Bat a copycat, which may or may not be true. Perhaps he saw it and got an idea. He's definitely not mentally stable. I don't get why they're treating him like a liar when he was clearly responsible.

The only thing fishy about Tsukiko's lie was that her description of Shounen Bat was spot on.

Anyway, I hope all of this confusing stuff will make sense soon. Well, this is all making me paranoid, so I guess this anime is doing a good job so far, lol.

Wow, so much happened this ep. I got a bit confused as to who was related to who.

I didn't expect Tsukiko to be lying...I did, however, originally think Ichi was. Many comments suggesting everyone is faking it and Shounen Bat was their "alibi." I'm confused though...why did Tsukiko have a panic attack when she heard rollerblades a couple eps back? Also, if Shounen Bat isn't real, then why/how are all the victims related?

Am I the only one who thought the computer thing was really ... weird?

It's just a nitpick, and when you realize the family barely has enough money to afford a good house it makes sense but ...

Like, the dad had a camera of his daughter in the daughter's room ... but he also has the program taking the pictures in her computer? Like, is he just stupid? I know it was in the trash folder, so maybe he thought he could get away with it for a while and then hide it in there. But it's still a HUGE risk and it is dumb for him to take it. I know that in like Japan they share a TV usually in the main room as a family event. So maybe this family was too poor to have multiple computers (which would make sense because of the . But it just seems like such a stupid thing to do ...

Then again, that's a nitpick and I guess the more you think about it the more sense it makes. The dad was never clever to begin with.

Anyways, amazing episode ! 9/10

Very dark stuff, TV doesnt normally get this dark lol.

I clocked who her father was from the moment he's introduced just cus the little glimpse looked enough like him that I thought "that looks like rapecop" and then the next bit with the "oh daddy i wanna marry you" made me realise that yeah, it's rapecop, and things are about to get dark.

Wasn't surprised that the kid turned out to be a copy cat.

I do think the whole "shonen bat doesn't exist" tease will be proved to be just another red herring though. I thought early on that maybe they would make it a twist that SB was a mass hysteria phenomenon thing, especially as he changed appearance based on gossip and rumors, but not this early. The fact that it is this early in the series makes me think it's just setting up for yet another twist lol.

So I think Shonen Bat exists, just not as we know it .It's probably the wacky old man or the detectives or some shit lol.

Great episode though. This show is so good.

I immediately recognised that house as the one that Hirukawa was building.

Holy shit. We already knew that he was a pervert that backed up a prostitution ring and took bribes, but I never expected him to peep on his own daughter.
Guess now we also know why he has that "call me daddy" fetish. That is some dark shit.

After the rather weird last episode, things get interesting again.

Edit:

That was the fathers computer. It was in her fathers room. She wanted to surprise him and edited his desktop background. But yeah, he was still stupid, no password and didn't clear the trashbin.

And to think for most of this episode I looked up to Taeko's father for all the admiration she had for him. Now I feel dirty. The sad part is he works hard (albeit not legally) for his family and loves them, but he "loves" his daughter way too much.

When you think that Hirukawa can't be more corrupted, this episode appears... Poor Taeko for learning the truth about her perverted, idealised through years by her, father. Losing memory is indeed the best cure for her. Hirukawa's house was destroyed, like the love his daughter felt towards him.

I was considering him being a fake, but he just looked too similar to the one we saw in previous episodes. I honestly didn't expect that guy taking his...URGES to that level, I thought he only kept it between prostitutes, but no, he had to 'spy' on his own daughter... Disgusting. Seems like she received what she wished for though; she lost her memories and her utter disgust in her own father.
