For me it's gotta be Hunter X Hunter, i like the tactics they use, the fights are usually more clever than just people throwing moves till one wins :) HxH fights never disappoint :D

What's your opinion?
Does anyone else need a doctor to confirm that someone without a head is dead?

I'd say Fate/Zero.

Seconded. I like the fact that these fights have no rules except to not expose yourself to the public. I also like that it's basically a free-for-all with each participant equally capable of being good and/or evil. I got excited when a simple 1v1 turned into a 6-way free-for-all near the beginning.

The animation in F/Z was great, but the actual fight scenes themselves weren't all that awesome IMO. Don't get me wrong, I loved the very first short 1 vs 1 fight between Saber and Lancer but after that each fight seemed to just make 'eh?' or lack content overall. I'd say the fights in Kara no Kyoukai were slightly more enjoyable if we were talking about ufotable/type-moon series in general. Now this is just the fight scenes themselves, not looking at the 'big picture'.

Might as well say it since someone else will. Sword of the Stranger and although lacking in overall fight scenes, Serei no Moribito has some great ones too.

The Chuunibyou fights were extremely fun to watch as well, mostly because KyoAni's quality animation.

I loved the fights in Darker than Black, nothing spectacular but they were just really entertaining, especially Hei's fights, vs that elf-looking guy in the middle of season 1 and against the female contractor who uses a sword at the end of season 2.

+1000, the movie as 5(?) fights and they are of very good quality. Mixing sword fight with multiple martial arts was a very intelligent move.

Katanagatari and Fate/Zero both have good fights, but still pretty far from sword of the stranger

The Best

Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo both have amazing fights, a lot of it is down to the music and the choreography that goes with it!

I really have to think about the others

Katanagatari has some really epic fights, (of course the dialogue is the reason I love that show not the fights).

Runners Up

Logh has fucking bloody axe battles in space - but the animation is dated.

Hajime no Ippo if you want boxing broken down - shonen style.

Darker than black had some pretty good fights I guess.

Fights are never really something I rate a show on, other characteristics are much more important. If you're a fan of mecha you could try gundam 0083 Wing or Blue Gender (Mecha v bugs)

Hajime no Ippo had some of the best fight scenes, especially the last fight of the series. I had goosebumps the whole time.

Should Ben-to deserve a mention? Just a random video in youtube and a friends advice made me want to watch it.

F/Z had amazing quality and Saber vs Lancer choreography was damn right amazing (if it wasn't cockblocked though).

Mirai Nikki. Why? Two words, Yuno Gasai. But seriously I love how you get a good background on the characters and you actually want the main characters to win. It's not just the fights are good, they have a good reason to fight.

I'm reading Stardust Crusaders (Jojo Part III) and I've been impressed by pretty much every battle so far. The series is little more than a string of fight scenes, but the Stand's are so well implemented and diverse that the series always feels fresh. I really can't wait to see this animated by David Production.

So far the best fights I've seen are in Hajime no Ippo. They're fast and furious, the combatants fight by the rules, and the finishing blows are rather dramatic. After seeing Ippo hit the canvas, I saw a lot of tension in getting up before the count to 10 finishes.

HxH has one of the most complex battle systems I've seen, and by far, my favorite.

This and i watched lot of shonen.

I also think that Gintama shouldn't be underestimated

well recently in some animes the best fights are the ones with the most realistic fluid movements to me so...i'd say alot of the fights in Darker than black were pretty damn cool.
K project although was really focused on the fighting as much when they did fight it look beautiful and was very fluid and fast with the dodges and blocks.

I like the Eva vs Angel fights in Evangelion. They're usually really weird, which makes it both cool and a bit confusing. One of my favourites would have to be the synchronized dance battle:

Seriously? Giant robots dancing to classical music? Amazing.

Hunter x Hunter: Fights are
1) clever
2) have good moves and styles
3) complex, aren't all explosions
4) really intese and sometimes have a psychological aspect
5) normally they are quick and don't include talking (unless talking is a condition to activate a certain ability :P)
6) two-sided, not turn-based, where someone first spams attacks, and then the other gets his turn after.
7) simply the characters chosen for the fights, it has the best "cool" effect I've seen in shonen, you know when you go "omg this guy! against THAT guy?!"

Naruto used to have good fighs in the Zabuza/Chuunin arc, also Sasuke vs Killer bee kicked so much ass, it's one of the best fights ever.

Hisagi vs some random arrancar from the Karakura arc was really good too

First Jin vs Mugen fight

One Piece. Nothin' has ever gotten a louder 'fuck yeah' out of me than an epic showdown with the straw hat crew. Especially when Luffy is in action against a big boss.

I'll agree with the 5+ people that said Fate/Zero. A couple fights here and there from Naruto, DBZ and One Piece might be a little more memorable for me as I grew up with them, but I can't go past F/Z for actual quality.

Most of the action stuff Bones put out are amazing. Namely Sword of the Stranger and Darker than Black. From what I've seen of it so far, Xam'd also has some nice fighting scenes. Outside of Bones, Hunter x Hunter has some interesting battles and some of the fights in One Piece can get your blood boiling. I could say Beelzebub and Naruto, but then again, Pierrot doesn't do nearly enough to give those two series anything of a "good" fight, though Shippuden did have two very good ones (Itachi v Sasuke and Jiraiya v Pein).

Darker than Black, intense, spectacular, stunningly animated and actually exciting. You never have the feeling anyone is out of harms way. But most important of all. It doesn't outstay it's welcome!

Gurren Lagann at second place, simply for it's ridiculousness.

Highschool of the dead a close third. Incredibly stylish and also funny because of the ridiculously ecchi elements.

agree with this, I would say Naruto because some of the fights get very highq animations (so do Bleach, but they don't fight as long in Bleach) but the infinite flashbacks is a huge letdown
