Lol i knew everyone would hate the girl...but I don't see why. This system is like 20 different types of flawed. It judges your criminality based on your mental state at that given moment...which is wrong since everyone has criminal thoughts at one time or another. The criminal in this episode is sort of a victim himself based on his little monologue about not doing anything but suddenly labeled a criminal.

That's right, and when they chase a potential criminal, the stress of being hunted down makes them even more criminal.

The whole system is retarded as fuck. It's a pile of shit. I'm hoping protagonist girl will oppose this fucked up system.
Indeed, the system is a product made by the current government officials to keep their power and wealth over the populace, as no one will want to oppose since even a little stress can land you into criminal status, and as it seems from what the criminal dude was saying earlier the populace seems to be brainwashed or conditioned into believing that people with a high enough latency to them shouldn't be associated with and casted out of society.

My God, I can see the conspiracy unraveling already.
Thats right man, the big twist will be that Shogo wasn't bad the bad guy but the government itself. The cast will realize they've been used as tools, etc.., revolt, death, Bam Urobuchi-styled ending. Shogo will appear before Shinya butt naked, sitting on the ruins of a govt building while reciting quotes from 1984, Believe.
Butt naked is the most important part. Gilgamesh sells.

Anyway, the fugitive criminal man proved that the system is reliable enough to find latent criminals by his own atrocious and selfish acting.

Actually not, since the guy began this rampage because the system labeled him as criminal beforehand. It's established that once you're labeled by the system, you will be hunted down no matter what, even if you didn't do anything.

This is a case when the system actually creates (or at least instigates) criminality.

Great intro with an awesome animation as expected from Production I.G the story plot looks interesting, not too original but kind of have its own atmosphere and I sure I am already hating Akane, her way of thinking is typical to many others annoying characters !!

I wasn't that much of impressed. That atmosphere was nice - It reminded me a mix of DTB, Phantom & Canaan. But the first episode was quite cliche.

Akane has already been added in my annoying characters list. How is able for a girl like her to become an inspector? She cannot even endure blood, plus she seems like the type of character that will put the others into trouble. (She already fired Shinyan.)

I hope there won't be any shounen-ai innuendos between Shinyan & the white-haired guy.

I still wonder why EGOIST should sing the ending theme. To remind us the old days of Guilty Crown?

The closest thing Iv seen to darker than black in a while. Personally I think this has the potential to be epic.

Hopefully there's going to be some close quarters combat, and that inspector better get some courage if she wants to roll with that bunch so far she's a large annoyance and the only thing I dislike about this anime.

The design nearly blinded me. Dat space between mouth and nose.

Well, it has potential if Urobuchi goes the usual route.

Series is trying too hard to be grimdark edgy.

2.5-3/5 for this episode.
As a child, I was told that society is a melting pot of talents; knowledge and experience combined to form important alloys that will contribute to mankind. When I got to highschool, however, I thought that it's more like a river in which the water represents our peers while we ourselves are the stones in the river. Constant erosion by mindless majority sheeping has made us lose our unique edge. After I hit the age of 18, I realized that I've been wrong all along. Society is no melting pot. Society is no river. Society is a person, a very skilled rapist, and he has fucked us all.

... She didn't kill him. =.= He's the main character. It was probably just paralysis.

Anyways, it was such a great episode. THE ED WAS AN EGOIST SONG (ABNORMALIZE). I didn't look on MAL prior to watching the episode, but WHEN I HEARD IT I WAS SO HAPPY. (INORIINNNN D'':)

Akane seems pretty awesome, and so does Kogami. As of now, right now, my favourite character will be Shuusei. Kogami too probably. Ginoza kind of annoys me, but for now. Masaoka seems like a bro.

ARGHH SO EXCITED FOR EPISODE TWO.

Shinya is cool and badass. Interested to see his background and psycho pass
This introductory episode main aims for me are to explain how the coefficient work and how it can be controversial or I should say an unjust system
I can't blame Akane for being unable to shoot that girl
It didn't disappoint and I was glued to the monitor the whole time
Fantastic

Psycho-Pass= "typical" dystopia/ minority report/edgy police anime until.......until.....let's see what Urobuchi has waiting for us, for me it's still too soon to say much, even about Akane.

Good first episode, I like the characters so far, even the girl. I mean she's on her first mission and it goes really really badly, not to mention she's young and a fresh graduate, it's not surprising to see her act that. It's like minority report meets ghost in the shell but with a twist, looking forward to it especially with all disappointing this fall has been.

Also.. I guess in the opening fight the helmet the dude is wearing makes the gun unable to scan him, which is why he could only shoot him when it got damaged. Hopefully that leads to some interesting scenarios...

Those guns are mad cool.
I am loving this premise already.
I didn't expect that they use criminals to hunt criminals.
Our main guy is an anti hero alright!

Love its darkness and the violence.

I am expecting more! Can't wait to see more of this series.

Very impressed with the episode. Seems like a cross between Bladerunner and Guilty Crown and has Urobuchi's trademark 'suffering'.

I just hope it keeps up to this level of quality and doesn't fall flat like GC did.

I don't know, this episode was screaming "look at all these moral issues" throughout, which was kind of obnoxious. Not to mention this episode nailed all of the police show standards, including useless newbie who was top of the academy and hardened criminals with no feelings/ ruthless instincts.

...... again

It's my recent go to line to describe shows that try, in vain, to be something grand. Sophisticated writing is not put together so easily, a fact that was made painfully obvious in this episode. I said it in the Tempest thread and it's relevant again here: good works are written for the sake of exploring a theme, not under the constraint of being a theme. This episode did not seek to explore psychology, morality, etc., it simply tried to be psychological, by flinging shallow and boring moral questions at the audience, without commentary, style, or anything else.

this anime is looking pretty good so far! loved the first ep. only bone i have to pick with it is how slow the gun is. like you have to wait for it to tell you the target's coefficient and then "update" into the correct mode. i mean when you're in a life or death situation and you have to make a snap judgment right that instant, you can't just wait for the gun to tell you what to do ヽ(´ー`)┌

A good first impression, though I can already tell that this would never reach the tier of Ghost in the Shell SAC. Though, its refreshing to see a cyberpunk series after all these years I suppose. I'm pretty sure this would be the best show for me of the year despite its flaws I foresee.

This is kind of how I feel. After the first episode of Ghost in the Shell I was already hooked, but I didn't get that same feeling with this episode. This does have potential though.

when you see people hating on characters who are being morally compassionate about others and label them as annoying, it makes me wanna question just how heartless we can be so long as we're in the third person perspective..

anyway, finally a cyberpunk police anime in 2010's.. once again, gotta thank Production I.G for bringing them to us.. i'm just waiting on what Urobuchi Gen would pull off this time around..
