Finally the Kurapika awesomeness starts. Even though I don't really like the adaption, the Yorkshin-Arc's gonna be great.

Finally!

I am glad there was no long seminare or a montage like during Gon/Kill learning Nen arc...

Don't think the old anime had small introductions for all the body guards around Kurapika

Alrighty, just watched the episode....

It was okay. Felt kinda let down with all the filler since I was expecting to see more stuff happen at the mansion but oh well. It was nice to see a small introduction for each of the new characters since I don't remember the manga or the 1999 version doing that.

I think the things that bothered me the most about this episode was the music placement and the pacing, at least in the first half. To me, the tracks used didn't create the sort of atmosphere I was expecting and the training felt really rushed and lacked impact.

At least the second half had a better handling on both aspects. I actually felt upset when the Kurapika gave his little monologue about "worming up to the top." Made me realize (again) how revenge driven he is and how he will hardly smile ever again....the poor boy! Oh gosh, and before that, when he was scanning all the possible items and then he lands on the eyes of his clan....just broke my heart! :(

Gotta say though, the best part of the episode was the last 5 minutes or so. Even though I knew what to expect, I was still caught off guard and the cliffhanger left me hungry for more!!

Sooo looking forward to the next episode!!

...Before I forget, Gon and Killua in Hunterpedia just took their friendship to the next level it seems...(*cough* not that I mind *cough*)

It was really refreshing to see Kurapika in this episode, along with some other new characters as well. We also got some great new OST tracks and so far I'm pretty hype about this new arc starting up. Can't wait for the Phantom Troupe to finally show up!

Is it just me or was this mostly stuff they already showed? I'm sure we already saw Kurapika learning Nen ages ago... I kept getting deja vu... ¬__¬ Seemed like a slow episode but the ending still came so quick.

But SENRITSU I MISSED YOU LET ME HUG YOU AND STUFF--

And omg Hunterpedia was the best part of this episode, I repeat, Hunterpedia was the best part of this episode:

They showed in previous episodes only Kurapica going to that office and she told him when you can see what's next to me then come back, there was only this part in addition for a glimpse of that teacher.

The introduction in both adaptations were fillers, the old one showed a sudden interaction that didn't exist in the manga between the guards, this episode showed the characters while they're outside of the mansion, each during his job, it didn't create a connection between the guards from their first meeting before anything happened, which actually kept their job as guards more reliable, and it's more faithful to the manga.

I really liked how they handled this episode. I liked the OST too. The VA for the guards were also suitable. A great episode over-all, definitely excited for the next episodes.

Not really a bad episode, but naturally it felt lacklustre if you remember everything.

This episode was needed to remind the viewer about Kurapika and stuff, but also to establish the characters without ruining the pace in the next episode (this should mean lots of action). I mean, it's understandable.
I have my own anime blog. It's called Anime Viking. Hope you'll you read it!

The problem here isn't exactly the OST, it's how they were used in certain scenes. Though it's a filler episode, we're talking about revenge-driven Kurapika here. Such upbeat music ruins the atmosphere and gets in the way in understanding the character's hatred. I liked how this filler was handled in the old anime, dark and emotional and Kurapika's struggle to gain power was clearly shown (which made me sympathize with him even more).

The second half was okay. I really don't care about the rest of the bodyguards (lol) and I don't like that they've revealed some of the bodyguards' abilities this early.

Looking forward to seeing Kurapika with his earring next week yay! :D

Whoever on the staff is doing these huntercyclopedia segments is definitely pretty awesome. They never fail to deliver the good moments.

Can't wait to see how they all escape the mansion, I already imagine that the lady wont make it, she was cowering behind the butler, and I cant imagine her 180second love kiss to work on hooded assassins. Actually everyone but Kurapika look like fodder characters, so...

Conjurer seems pretty cool but limiting unless he can conjure nen beam blasts and explosions? And have we encountered these illusive specialists yet?

Interesting choice by Madhouse to move the learning sessions which in the manga are flashbacks during the Kurapika/Uvogin battle to the introduction of the Yorknew Arc. Because of that choice however the first half of this episode dragged a little bit. However the second half picked up especially introducing the bodyguards. Since the flashbacks in the manga are not flashbacks in the Madhouse anime I wonder how the Kurapika/Uvogin battle will be then. Oh well till next week!

Random Thoughts

It seems the animation director for the episodes coming up won't be from Madhouse as you can check from the credits : /(the show still has some of the better artwork and animation though than other current shows) . As a result some of the fights took some shortcuts when it came to the fight scenes when compared to the beautifully done 34-38. Hopefully that means the awesome fights: Uvogin vs Shadowbeasts, Chrollo vs The Zoldycks and Kurapika vs Uvogin will be done by Madhouse and amazing

I listened to the second sountrack released for this arc and while I think the songs are appropriate, the director needs to place them correctly in order to have the best impact toward us as viewers. Some of the music during Kurapika's Nen lecture felt off and I remembered that the track it was playing is supposed to be for the Kurapika Uvogin battle

Takehito Koyasu what you doin in Hunter x Hunter XD? They have Kraft and Prince Baka from Level E in this show, now Yukitaka's VA needs to show up and the trifecta will be complete

Too much fillers and flashback that should even be showed yet, I thought the next one would be this one not just 3min or so. And this is becoming like the getbackers anime, they are starting to make characters gay when in reality they are not.

But it is "Yorknew City". Not everyone knows what Shin means. And the purpose of the name is clearer in English.

Just re-read the manga, the butler was actually supposed to get shot when she hid behind him.
