Huh... Eight time skip? That was unexpected. I wouldn't have minded if they took one more episode that focused on the time skip period. I'll have to find the ending to the manga to get some closure.

Overall, it was a terrific show. Loved the jazz sessions :D

Wow 8 years of not looking for Sen and not talking to Ri-chan! Damn that just sounds impossible. But with how this series went, it's only one of the few gripes that I have. I love the reunion! Kept me smiling through the entire end of the episode.

Excellence. One of many words that describe this series. Soo sad that it's over. More shows need to be more mature like this.

IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL!!!

Love the connection between Sentaro and Richie that no matter what how much time passes its still strong. Love how every ones lives turn out and Ritsuko got to see the boys.

I will cherish this anime for ever!

Right?

Anyway...one word to describe this show. Magnificent. Didn't know what to except when reading the summary before it aired but I can now say it was a beautiful show. Without a doubt one of the best this season.

Ending was great. Would like to know how the manga differs by comparison?

etc.

Kaoru looks a little odd with long hair, but it grew on me. Sen looks great. What the heck with Ritsuko? I was anticipating 3 feet of hair flowing freely in the breeze with the ocean background.

This show has been excellent. Up and down, it has drawn me in, frustrated me, and resolved beautifully. Yet, at the end, with Ritsuko's hair, nooooo. How? Why? aaahhhhhhhhh!!! So perfect, then that.

Absolutely perfect ending.

Also, Maruo becoming a train conductor was like some kind of icing on top of the cake. For me at least.

So hard to not give this a 10/10. But I'm sure that after a few months, the impact will wear off and I'll give this a 9/10 anyway. So I'll just give the 9 now.

Heh not bad. Hated it at times, loved it at times, but overall, definitely enjoyed it.

The time skip was the highlight for me, as I've always been interested in where people end up. But doctor, really? It's so stereotypical, that as a pre-med, I'm offended - lol.

Nonetheless, it's a very good show. So,

If I hadn't previously read the manga, I would have felt as though the ending was incomplete and very rushed. (Even the last couple chapters of the manga were a bit rushed as well.) But as is, I feel immensely happy and I think they did a beautiful job with the ending. Would've loved it if the series had been even just one episode longer. But oh well. Either way, 9/10.

I won't spoil anything, but the manga does a fairly good job of explaining what went on during the eight year time span. It also provides some cutesie closure to Ritsuko and Kaoru's relationship. I highly recommend reading the manga if you'd like to know more. Because the manga and anime are so similar, you really only need to read the last couple of chapters. (But I definitely think people should read it in it's entirety. <3)

I highly recommend the manga for anyone who is curious about what happened through that 8 year gap since the anime sadly skipped all that.

indeed. there were `a whole lot more events that filled that timeskip, including Kaoru's meeting with Jun as well as a little tease with regard of with regard of whether or not Ric-chan had already had a boyfriend, and the party at the end too, but the ending got the whole point of the manga, brilliant 5/5.

Yes, exactly. The ending really didn't flow too well with me though so unfortunately this show for me went from a 10 down to a 9.

I will never forget fangirling over Sen and Kaoru's performance at the school festival. That whole scene really blew my mind.

I loved this show! Definitely best of the spring season. We'll have to see about best of the year though :)

Great Show. I felt as if the ending was rushed as i prefer the manga ending (although i felt as if that ending was rushed as well). I didn't feel like like i got as much closure as i did from the manga, but i guess i was sort of expecting that. I rate this anime 8/10

Sakamichi no Apollon goes straight to my masterpieces list. (altough I think that the final was a bit too sudden).
The whole show had way too many plot twists imho, but anyway it was an anime which differs from the others, from the OSTs to the extreme realism of the setting/characters.
Not to mention my eyes which became a fountain watching the last episode.
Damn, why do I always have to cry when they put the opening as ending in most of animes?
It always makes me go BAWWWWW ;_;

The final episode felt a bit rushed, but a nice sweet ending to the show. Overall a really good series that was a sight for sore eyes in this 'moe' era.

As for Yurika: CALLED IT! It felt so cliche, to be honest, but that doesn't mean i enjoyed it ^^

as for 8 year later Kaoru: Dat hair~ *_*

All in all, i really enjoyed this show. Drama stuff like this usually bores me to death, but i really liked this~

It finally ends T_T And on a good note

This last episode seemd kinda rushed since they suddenly jumped to 8 years later and so the loneliness that Ri-chan or Kaoru-kun or even Sentarou might have felt didnt come out as much. So the reunion of the 3 of them didnt have a big impact.

But overall the series was fantasic with some cool music pieces. And that friendship between the 3 of them is really beautiful. This series was one of THE best josei anime Enjoyed every mintue of it

Recommened to all shoujo and josei fans. And also to all others who are curious whether or not to watch this show.

Nice and heartwarming Anime, loved every sentiments from the episodes. Glad i picked this up, even I wasn't interested in jazz, but now i kind of feel a different view of what it actually is.(or not?) Sentaro was my favorite character, and i feel really sorry about him and what he has gone through every time i think about him, makes me sad. :( That's why I liked him for who he is.

It was way too short, needed more eps. 9/10

Totally rushed! In the last half of the episode they cutted off almost five chapters from the Manga!
But the jam session at the church was really awesome!
The anime was great althouth I think it deserved at least one more episode.

Holy moly, this episode just single handedly butchered this series. Terrible, extremely rushed ended. They left themselves with way too much to do in this episode, if they wanted to go this far they definitely needed 24 episodes.

Let's just forget this happened and pretend it ended with Sen leaving.

It's kinda stupid how Kaoru and Ritsuko's relationship took so much time to build only to go on the drain so easy. Also, Kaoru displayed a severe case of insert foot in mouth and be a jerk although his feelings are somewhat understandable.
The whole 8 year later part was nice but weird. I like the new hairstyles. Ritsuko is cute, but she reminds me of Noda Megumi (Nodame) for some reason . And Kaoru went from nerdy to sexy . The duo in the church was the best part of the episode, and I liked how the older priest scolded them, it only added to the humor of the scene.
All in all, this could have easily been a 10/10 series, if the ending had been handled properly ( maybe make it a 13 episodes series instead of 12 ? ). Even so, thanks to the high quality jazz, it can still be considered a masterpiece ( at least in my opinion).

I don't know why they just didn't add another episode... There was so much emotion that they cut out, and they just turned it into a simple end rather than a complex one. Rushed endings are the worst....

I can't believe that Shinchiro Watanabe actually directed this.
Most overrated piece of shit teenage melodrama I've seen in a long time. I don't mind dram, but having drama, just for the sake of drama won't turn out good.
So it starts off following the same pattern it always did: Kaoru does something stupid, followed by Kaoru feeling self-loathing and regret. Kaoru does something stupid and he doesn't talk to either Ritsuko or Sentarou for an episode or two, that's most of the drama and it's very weak because it's not believable.
There's the scene where he stands outside of her window, followed by the scene at the train station which led to nothing, now I can appreciate these clichés, but Ritsuko and Kaoru's relationship overall felt very, ehh fake I guess you could say. Every single interaction between these two characters feels so incredibly not real or genuine, and I never believed that these were supposedly real people. It was never engaging and never connected with me in any meaningful way, and I'm actually a sucker for romantic comedies with no brains, so that should say something about this show. The train scene I couldn't care less about, the train scene with Yurika and Junichi however, was much more emotional and I genuinely cared, because it felt to me like they were actually in love. Kaoru and Ritsuko though? There's no emotion coming off the screen between those two.
Okay enough about those two. Then there's the rest of the episode which is pretty weak aswell. There's an 8 year time skip and Kaoru's working as a doctor and sporting a mullet. Then they show what happened to the guy with the lolifang because that's so interesting ofcourrse (sarcasm). Then he goes and meets Sentarou and then Ritsuko comes or whatever. This failed to have an impact because we never actually got any time to start missing these characters. Ritsuko was gone for like 4 minutes and Sentarou just left at the end of the last episode. Supposedly Kaoru was all miserable or whatever (I guess) from having his bromance leave him and the girl he likes resent him after he got all rapey, but this didn't connect with me because 1. Kaoru's a dick 2. Kaoru's an asshole. But when they meet up they're all friends or whatever and we never know if Kaoru learns his lesson about friendship which was supposed to be the premise of this show.

All in all, too much unecessary, boring melodrama, and too little Jazz. A boring main character who might aswell not exist, and also a female lead with no depth or personality. There's no clever writing to be found, no good lessons to learn, and nothing that will really stick with you after you've seen this show
The only good thing to come out of this show was the OP/ED music, and the episodes about Yurika and Junichi.

4/10 and then I wonder if I'm being too generous
