After thinking about this ending again.. Holy shit, nearly EVERYONE we knew and loved from the Band of the Hawk getting mercilessly slaughtered n a single episode? Caska getting brutally raped by Griffith. Experiencing the extent of Guts' anger at his breaking point. This ending succeeds at truly making me, the viewer, feel helpless in that given situation. The demon lords made us believe that there's a glimpse of hope until they crushed it. Wow, what an ending to experience. Until SK arrives. :) |

Honestly... I think they pretty much mucked the ending of this great series though. Liked the idea of Medieval times and warriors fighting for there lives in a battlefield, but why should all those freaky demons had to step in and spoil the main plot? Jeez... Anyways, I haven't read the manga yet but I wonder just how many rapings and jerkin offs there are in the manga XD. I even felt kind disturbed in the anime (especially Caska being raped by that bunch of demons) |

Great anime. I don't plan on reading the manga (sorry but I don't have enough time) but I look forward to watching the re-make movies. Hopefully, they'll give the original author/artist the urge to finish the manga. The way it ended didn't piss me off 'cause Guts is alive. What really pissed me off is those asshole demons and what Griffith has become. Or rather, he "died" and became one of them. I hope Guts give those bastards what they deserve sooner or later. Their actions make Zod's slaughters in one of the earlier episodes look like a joke. |

Just finished the series after it gathered dust for like 2 years. Overall the show really was good, except for the ending indeed, but after I read the wikia I understand it better and even though the rape was rage inducing at least she already made love with the man she really loved before all that, it's still very very very annoying to see that fucking faggot ravage her like that but she loses her mind and after some wondering gets together with Guts again so those things are kinda helping the pain T_T. But I don't get why Griffith became such a low "thing", it was clear that after he and Guts met Guts became stronger every day and Griffith just took more and more advantage of others while doing less and less himself. It was just a matter of time. Him falling down like that after Guts left proves how weak he actually was and it got confirmed after he agreed to becoming a demon. I just hope that when the manga ends Caska and Guts can lead a quiet life somewhere and raise a child of their own, in the beginning this would be out of the question but now that Guts (in the manga at least) realises he just wants to fight for the women he loves it isn't so far fetched. |

This show is amazing when it wants to be. But honestly, this ending left me way to conflicted. I watched it like a month ago and still have no idea what I think about this anime. Yeah, I understand that if I really wanted to get the story I should read the manga but it's way too long. I feel like I have so many viewpoints of the show overall. The ending was powerful and bold... it also felt like a big fuck you as well... made everything leading up to it seem like BS... and also makes you want to rewatch the whole series since you'll probably see everything in a new light... sorry for ranting but I'm just kinda dumbfounded by, well, everything |

I don't see why people are surprised or pissed off with the ending. Griffith himself mentioned that all he cared about was his dream and nothing would get in his way of achieving it. He also mentioned that the people that followed other people's dreams blindly where fools. Guts showing up blinded Griffith of this. I liked the series a lot. The first episode was shitty as hell. It was shitty enough to make me put this series on hold for 3 years haha. Glad I finally got around to finishing it. My theory about how Guts escaped is simple. I think Griffith let him and possibly Casca go as a way of saying "fuck you" to them. Obviously they need to die at some point but I think with them struggling and fighting all these demons that are after them, it builds up the amount of power they'll release when Griffith finally kills them (assuming he does). It's like a cat playing with the mouse it caught. I wan't to read the manga now to find out what happens! |

Seabury said: Seriously, I didn't even think the anime was that great *until* the ending. I can't fathom what you all are whining about, because honestly this is one of, if not the, best endings I have ever seen in an anime. Are you that addicted to closure that when a masterpiece open ending slaps you in the face, you don't even notice? Pah. This. While I did like the series when I was watching it,(besides the event with Nosferatu Zodd, which I thought was very great), I never seen what the big fuss for this series was. After the last few episodes, though, my opinion shot upward a great deal. What a great ending... it really leaves you hungry for more. Sadly, I have to read the manga now. Between this and having to read the D. Gray Man manga, I don't know what i'm going to do... |

Was laughing hysterically over how "cliffhangery" this episode is.This is like the most unfinished anime I've seen lol. It feels like the story just started with this last episode. Definitely need to read the manga now that the story got more interesting. Oh and fu Griffith. Never liked you from the start and probably never will. 9/10 |

Wow what a depressing episode. I had to take a break after Judeau died and Caska was captured ;^; Damn. Watching the characters I've grown to love get killed, Caska getting raped, and Guts being held down so helplessly. Not sure how I feel about Griffith after all this either... The cliffhanger was pretty funny though. Just hafta read the manga~ |

last two episodes were queit possibly the two worst episodes of anime I have ever watched, and it wasn't because of the plot or any of the things people complain about. what actually happened? 1) the hawks found out they were going to be sacrificed 2) the hawks were sacrificed 3) griffith 2.0 was born why the fuck did that take 50 minutes to explain? fucking awful. talk about dragging on. the worst was when they repeat exact sentences over and over again. Ruined the whole series for me. |

I guess I'm in the minority here but I thought the ending was pretty good, great even. These last few eps were easily the highlight of the whole anime for me. Sure, there was a lot of unexplained/unresolved stuff but I don't really mind that much (and I certainly don't like shows where every little minute detail is spelt out for the viewer leaving no room for individual interpretations). Already started reading the manga as well (from the very start), and so far I haven't been disappointed. |

W..what the FUCK. Caska getting raped was too much for me. My god... what a horrific scene... your lover getting raped by monsters then to be raped by your best friend in front of you while helpless.................................................... horrific indeed. Not sure what I feel... I feel so much hate towards the demons to victimize Griffith and the Hawks. Scumbag demons. Griffith is not to blame people, it's the demons. Griffith is a character that should be pitied imho. |

NOOO! NOT LIKE THAT! It can't end like this!!! I've heard of the infamour ending of Berserk, but this was on a level of a different kind! It0s like ending something at its most climatic of climaxes! Damn, that was really argh, there is so much left to be told. Anyway I was ready for it, it just means I need to pick up the manga at some point so that I can continue this amazing story. |

The motivation behind the last 5 or 6 episodes brings this anime down. Griffith the obvious emo homosexual can't handle his slave boy toy leaving to carve his own path rather then dwelling in his shadow so he fucks a little girl causing himself to be tortured for a year. During the torture he goes mentally insane and dwells over Guts "betrayal" even though Guts returns with the rest of The Hawks to save him. I'm being a little harsh on purpose but I want others to understand how stupid this is. Maybe I'm just being logical and actually thinking, which a lot of people in this anime never seem to do. I don't even mind that we are basically sucked into a demon world at the end but none of it is explained. To me it's typical generic crazy japanese bull shit. Tentacle porn, demons, etc. I was numb to it for the most part, I felt bad at times but it was laughable more than anything seeing our side characters get killed off so easily. I'm not a fan of unanswered questions, especially in something that seems so grounded in a set reality for the most part(other than the visit from the battle god demon) but explaining why these exist is important from separating yourself from the generic other anime monsters. Which this doesn't do. As a whole even before the anime went full retard with Griffith the anime was a 7 in my eyes. I almost want to bring it down lower after how pointlessly illogical this ending was. It's obvious the anime wants to push it's central themes of destiny, dreams and free will or lack there of but to me this was done very poorly. Shocking doesn't mean it's good and to me it wasn't even that shocking, I was numb to the madness. It was out of place and unwarranted. Even if the eclipse was predestined to happen and all the events throughout the anime were planned out ahead of time it still doesn't explain the demon world, the little red charm that Griffith wears, why these demons rarely interfere with the human world, etc. They vaguely go into Griffiths choice in his path to get the castle, which was neat but doesn't explain much it was just an interesting way to show what we already knew in a graphic way. Anyways, I'm disappointed with this anime. I didn't expect it to be great but I also didn't expect to slap my intelligence in the face and spit on it. |

Upped my score from a 7 to an 8/10. I found this anime in my head a lot after watching it originally, I thought quite a bit about the story and Guts and Griffith. I put a lot of hours into playing a pretty awesome Berserk mod for Mount & Blade. I watched the series a couple more times over the last year and a half and even got my normally anime-avoiding brother to watch it and he loved it. So yeah, gave it a bonus point for being stuck in my head for so long. PANDEMlC said: The motivation behind the last 5 or 6 episodes brings this anime down. I'm being a little harsh on purpose but I want others to understand how stupid this is. Maybe I'm just being logical and actually thinking, which a lot of people in this anime never seem to do. You can talk about logic but are people always logical and of sound judgement? Griffith was emotionally shattered after the twin events of Guts "abandoning" him and his first ever defeat. Rather than being stupid it was a very human turn of events. Should Griffith be grateful Guts rescued him? You say it like you think so, but it's not hard to see from Griffith's perspective that Guts is the reason he spent a year being mentally and physically destroyed in a dungeon, the reason his dream was taken from him. He's had a nightmarish year to focus his hatred and despair on one person. Then after that rescue while he was a cripple with no future he saw his former soldiers cheering on Guts and treating him the way they used to treat Griffith. He saw Caska very close to Guts when she used to practically worship the ground Griffith walked on. Salt in the wounds and reminders what he'd lost. And even that said if Griffith could've talked he would've warned Guts off when the Eclipse was starting. When Guts fell from the altar Griffith reached out for him. He still needed a little push from the Godhand to become Femto. He was a mix of emotions, just as he said while in the dungeon in his voice over about Guts being his anchor. So I just want to offer some friendly disagreement, I don't think the story or the characters suddenly got stupid. They were just sadly human that's what makes this story so damn good and tragic. |

Man what a great show! The ending was...less than ideal but hopefully the movie remakes I've heard so much about will tie things up better. Things got really really fucked up for the finale and that's what was so great about it! All those demon characters, I wonder if they will be "bosses" that Guts faces down the line. And to see all the Hawk comrades get killed off one by one I liked them all, yes even Gaston, I followed him through the whole show! |

griffith, you asshole, biggest asshole since mokoto from school days, no even worse? well he let his comrades die who just saved him, then raped his best friends love, yeh sorry probably worse. that was nearly tentical rape there wasn't it haha. but wow, not sure whether to rate 9/10 or 10/10 this anime was so enjoyable i just watched it way to fast, i really hope the manga is as good, but i think there are some things about fairies that they left out at the begging of the anime, you remeber the girl in the bar in what i think was the first episode, she was a fairy in the manga. not sure how different it will be overall, lets see! LOL, reading some of the comments before me and it seems everyone enjoyed the series (I sure did). The ending even though it was not ideal, was great. It leaves us at a big climax in the story and would have been great to start up another season after the events of ep 25, but tragically the anime stopped. All we can hope for now is the manga to have the conclusion and for the movies to tell the story after ep 25 and so on. Btw for those who don't know the manga is still continuing and the movies are coming out. |

I'm going to go well against the tide here and say that I absolutely loved the ending to the anime. Everyone will experience something in their own way, but to me, I interpreted the last two episodes of Berserk to be some of the best true horror that I have ever encountered. The way everything you've come to know throughout the series is utterly obliterated at the end is one of the most accurate Lovecraftian-esque horror settings that I can think of. I can understand why people wouldn't enjoy it, but I also think that the way you interpret something is massively dependent on what you are expecting to get out of it. Those that have read the manga and were expecting the story to continue on, would obviously be disappointed - and rightly so. The same can be said for those who had simply watched the show and were pulling for their favourite characters. But if you didn't enjoy the ending, but have an open mind, I recommend getting your hands on some Lovecraft material then going back and giving it another go. You might find other amazing elements to the ending that you had previously missed. |

After hearing many great things about the Berserk manga from a friend, I decided to check out the anime (since I don't read much manga). I have to say, Berserk was a great watch. It's just too bad that the ending left out Guts' escape. This would have been one of his greatest feats of strength throughout the series and they decided to just leave it out. He lost one eye and one arm while surrounded by demons who want to eat him. All his friends have been killed and his lover(Casca) gets raped in front of his eyes by a man he used to call friend. We all know he escapes due to the first episode. So we are all sitting here thinking "Oh boy, how the hell does he get out of this?" That thought goes through all our heads just as soon as we see everyone dying. Then....it just ends. I mean, that was kind of a slap across the face. Some people have said that they possibly ran out of money, but I don't buy that. I believe this was a deliberate ending to the anime. The way it ended with him leaving the blacksmith made it seem like they ended it that way on purpose. As to why? Don't have an answer to that yet. Some say that it was to advertise the manga. Possible, but to make a whole anime series just to advertise the manga seems a bit much in my opinion. That said, Guts was a really likable character and a badass. Guts' way of walking his own path makes him so manly. He doesn't want to cling to other people's dream (Griffith's) and he chooses where he goes and who he fights. The Band had some interesting characters too, but, other than Casca, they didn't get enough screen time. I know they are all supporting characters, but they were interesting enough that I wanted to learn a bit more about them. Now that they are all dead, that isn't going to happen. Got a certain amount of satisfaction seeing Griffith fall off his high horse near the end of the series. That look of shock when he lost to Guts made me crap my pants. Didn't they he would ever lose to anyone. This might be disturbing but, I was smiling grimly when the torturer was sticking needles into Griffith's gut. Always hated Griffith throughout the anime and when he was broken, no pity was felt. Then he becomes some demon that sacrifices his friends and rapes his friend's lover right before his eyes. Great. As a character once said, "Oh god I can't take it. I gotta kill this nut before I kill myself." Guts needs to kill Griffith not just for himself, but for me also. Bonus points to anyone who can guess where that line came from. Hint: from an anime movie. After all is said and done, I'll have to give this anime a 8/10. That ending didn't do it for me. It left out a major event in Guts life that we were all looking forward to seeing. We all knew he gets out and now we are left wonder how. Again, a slap across the face. If it wasn't for that, I would have gave it a 9. Oh well, I'm used to bad endings by now. It happens often enough. Probably going to have to read the manga lol. |

I for one loved the abrupt ending. It feels more artsy (even if its accidental) the way that they are all devoured and then there's only a short enigmatic cut-scene (linking to the beginning). Think of it as being similar to the "lived happily ever after" ending, that only works as long as you don't question it and try to deconstruct how the "ever after" looked like. If you do, you ruin it. Even though I read the manga, I'd rather they not continue with the anime as frankly, I lost confidence that sensei knows where he is going with the story. The same way that I'd rather not see the sequels to the matrix made, because they didn't offer much and their very existence ruined a fairly decent ending. Still, there's always the temptation for the writer to continue a best seller, to make some mo, and a large chunk of the public seem to want to have every little bit explained to them, leaving very little to the imagination, and very little in the way of artistic understatement. Sigh. |

cksdayoff said: the manga is a million times better than the anime and the anime is still a classic. Go read it and DON'T SKIP ANY ARCS, which includes the ones that the anime covers. You'll regret it big time if you do. I agree about the manga reading better than the anime watches. The action doesn't really pick up till ep. 18 when the queen is burned, and the anime feels very stretched, especially in the middle. However, the manga has its fair share of problems and gets increasingly ridiculous as the Kushan invasion progresses. It falls into the sad cliche pattern of a childish supernatural arms race, where "I have the power of the god hand, no, I have the power to infinity, no, I have the power to infinity+1". You get the picture. This sort of thing is especially evident in DBZ and Pokemon. By the time I got to Fantasia Arc I was bored, and now it seems like the rest of the story will be ad-libbed, with no ending in sight. You know that feeling when you have tasted something great for the first time, but then it doesn't seem so great after you've been eating it straight for a few days, or after years of eating it. Especially if you try it even once, once its starts to spoil. |

Well the ending was a total let down but I enjoyed the anime so much that I am going to try the manga. I give the anime 9/10. |

Before I watched the show, I prepared myself for reading the manga afterwards. I understood the ending was not going to be complete and that the series is not complete. I however have no complaints about this episode, or the episode before this. Only that the series is incomplete. As an episode, this was amazing. I watched as the invincible band of hawks who have survived through thick and thin for a leader who is now useless to them are dismantled by that said leader's ambition and "dream". It was foreshadowed heavily throughout the season this would happen. Griffith gave hints when he clarified what a friend was to the princess... and that description did not describe the band of hawks. Further more, his conversation with Gutts about God and the Devil being the same entity confirmed for me that power is what Griffith respects as his religion... and in that, I knew he'd sacrifice the BoH and Guts at some point. Then the final scene.. so much was running through my head. Why? Is it because of jealousy? It is a power struggle to show Guts who really is in charge? Was it to inflict pain on Guts or to satisfy Griffith's powerlessness which he has felt for the past year? Then how is Guts feeling? What are Casca's emotions? The man she has grown to love is watching her being pleasured by the man she has loved since day one. The man whom she sided to stay with over going off with Guts... It was all crazy for me. For me, these episodes did not come out of the blue. Episode 1 Guts even says hes looking to kill King Griffiths or whatever. Anyway, as 25 episodes, I rate this series 10/10. As a series... if I were not reading the manga, I would feel like potential was not fulfilled given the last episode. Then again, I could easily see the last episode simply being a dark end to an excellent series. They struggled, they fought and Griffith's dream.. which Guts tried to run from... eventually enveloped them in what is hell. |

Could this have been any more open ended? Sheesh. Still, what a great ride. All three main characters were infinitely layered and complex and they had interesting and understandable motivations. Quite a feat of storytelling they accomplished here. Well done. |

Wow, Caska getting raped by testicles. They've drawn the female body really beautiful. I will give this series a 9 out of 10. And It was not that open-ended at all. |
