THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- I still don't see why they had to change the main characters if the story is basically the same. I Saw the raw version and there were some bit where i didn't understand what happened, hope someone will sub it soon... Nonetheless it was pretty enjoyable i guess |

To me (and i was really not pleased with the changes) the OVA was awesome, I don't know why but the fact that they changed the main charas was okay, I did not like it to see tadashi as the monster instead of kaori xDD but it was really good, im happy they did the circus in it and the professor at the end with the flying mashine, but all in all it was an good adaption. |

Well, going by the RAW (though my Japanese is shaky), this seems like a half-decent adaptation -- but that's not difficult for me to say, because Gyo was never one of my favorite Junji Ito works. The changes were all more than acceptable. ...if only we had an Uzumaki OVA instead.... |

Sub is out. This was pretty bad. At times shocking, at times funny, but mostly boring. Haven't read the mange but it seems it's a 'recap' adaptation with cuts here and there. It still doesn't justify releasing something as unpolished as this 'horror' anime. 5/10 |

To be honest is too long. At the begining is like woooow, superb, what an ova but then with time it becomes boring. Nothing changes in that, she wants to save Tadashi but then he suddenly becomes a monster... and? too long, but still good ; ) |

Not very true to the original, i think it would have benefitted from staying closer to the story of the manga. Still not entirely bad, 3/5. |

Was good at beginning but the finale was inconcludent and silly. Also i dislike the character design, animation wasn't bad. Dragon Head is much better compared to this. 2/5 |

Who directed this? Who was the screenplay-writer? Justin Bieber? I still don't know why they create anime-original plots for something great. Why should have they concluded sex? This was made like a shitty Hollywood teen-thriller. |

This felt like the American bastardization of the manga, it wasn't all bad but I didn't care much for it especially the ending, I enjoyed the less optimistic ending in the manga, the character design looked awful, if they weren't going to use Ito's design they should have just gone a totally different route, the change in lead although it didn't bother me much felt unnecessary and I liked Tadashi more has a main character he at least and a fighting spirit in him and the story was just boring, it lacked the Ito touch to it. But I did enjoy the author cameo has a walker, that made me laugh. |

Not really sure why they decided to change things up by switching the roles around and adding/removing characters when there's nothing wrong with the manga story, but whatever, it was practically the same thing anyway. Of course, the art can't measure up to the manga, but the animation was pretty good overall. Gyo is some bizarre stuff. |

It's a bit difficult to form an opinion on something so outlandish. It wasn't very bad, but it fell short of my expectations - I had hoped for Gyo to be something extremely original and révolutionnaire in terms of plot. And... yeah, given that it's an anime which originates, per se, from Japan it certainly was a breeze of freshness - but the thing is that while for Japan it's something new... for those from Europe and America, it most definitely wasn't. Japan has its moe, and USA has its low-budget horrors which are truly similar to what I've just watched. Heck, it felt almost the same as 28 Weeks Later - only that rather than zombies, we had a nice example of Japanese quirkiness in the form of fishes with mechanical legs, which - upon meeting up with people who they had previously infected - turn into bio-mechanical harbingers of death. Sweet. When I first saw that shark moving outside the window, I couldn't help but giggle - the entire premise and convention are so Japanese that it's actually funny rather than scary. I wouldn't say that I enjoyed it thoroughly, but seeing something derived from everyday anime standards was enough to left me satisfied to a point where I can no longer bash the OVA. So... 5/10? I mean, 4 for the OVA, but I'll give a bit higher score for that shark at the beginning - it was really hilarious after all. |

So, I was waiting very much for this ova after i saw trailer. And, finally i've watched this. Well... I don't know what to say about it. It was funny and disgusting i think? I liked this sciencist, Tadashi's uncle. He was so crazy about 'seeking the truth'. In the end, he crated flying version of this strange things and used himself. It was brilliant. End was... How to say it? I was hoping for some more. I'm really into imagining your own end after end in anime like this... It's gonna be bothering me now. They'll live forever? How? On the moon? Or they'll die after mutated rain? Etc. This ova wasn't bad. It was... unusual. 3/5 5/10 |

Well, that was pretty fucking bad. Almost as bad as typical american horror movies. And also, the ending was probably one of the worst piece of shit ever. 3/10 |

Walking fish > zombies Never would have thought of anything else that's quite similar to zombies roaming around the world. In fact, it's worse. This OVA wasn't too bad...there's no true ending as well. Wonder what they will do. Plus it seems like they never went back in the water. Trying to leave the country? Yeah, right. Every other countries are having the same problem. There's absolutely no escape. Wonder if they will safely live in the middle of the ocean for the time being. In the end, we all know they're gonna run out of water/food/etc. Overall: 7/10 |

ye i got no idea why she does not want that USB that has the data/truth, although Shirakawa already uploaded it if you pay attention on the scene where he copies the data of the USB flash drive on his laptop 8/10 for me a good movie and maybe Kaori has some form of immunity on the virus too as she is still not turning to a zombie |

What to say about an Ova that blends elements of zombie horror, coprophilia, tentacle porn, and science fiction? It was a little messy and a little sick, but undoubtedly there will be fans who try to turn it into a cult classic. As for me, I'm going to take a hot shower and try to forget about it. |

Ugh, I still can't understand why ufotable chose Gyo out of all of Ito's works. Definitely one of his weaker stories, and the idea is so ridiculous and bad that it's hilarious. Not only was it not scary, the middle parts really dragged. At least the OVA ending is "better" though that's not saying much since it's like comparing shit to vomit. They should've just did OVAs for his one-shots. Would love to see an OVA of Enigma of Amigara Fault. Also disappointed in the lack of GASHUNK. |

Deliciously morbid and since I haven't read the source material there are no complains from me concerning the changes. I like how the subject truth was brought into it. It was the desire for truth what motivated the journalist to take up his profession, however, now he has reached his limits as on one hand the outlandish life form can't be depicted on modern image devices and on the other hand because it doesn't matter anymore. Early on he states that even videographers can be fooled by information which is reconfirmed by his unability to record the aliens thus not being able to verify the truth. All of this certainly have contributed to his final decision not to make his records public. |

It definitely made you think "Wow, imagine that happening right now" after watching this. But at the same time: IT'S FUCKING HILARIOUS! It takes Birdemic and combines it with Piranha 3D and Sharktopus. I read parts of Junji Ito's manga and it was pretty unsettling. But the OVA adds unintentional humor like Blood-C did. You couldn't stop laughing. And no GASHUNK?! BLASPHEMY! |

This was so bad, but damn if it wasn't fun to watch. 70 minutes of wackiness. That shark spider thing made my day. Glad they gave it an extended role compared to the manga, though it's been some time since I read the manga. I do recall the manga being creepy as fuck, but this. . . this was pants on head retarded and about as uncreepy as they get. Not to mention it has a brain similar to 1950s monster movies. It's like the studio hired writers of Syfy Original Movies. Hell, if Syfy continued to show anime to this day, I wouldn't have been surprised if this aired once it ends up being dubbed. The animation is mostly good but there were times where the CGI and hell, the animation itself looked terribly off model. |

I've got no backbone when it comes to scary stuff, but even I cracked up a few times during some of the ridiculous scenes. I enjoyed it up until the circus part, then it just got much too weird. I've never seen an anime like this before so I definitely appreciate the originality, though it obviously references those old scary movies from the 50s and horror B movies. It seems like a lot of you are giving quite low scores, but I think that's probably because you know the source material or genre a lot more than the average user. Since I've never seen anything like this, I gave it an 8/10. Yeah, that might be too high, but I don't remember the last time an anime made me react in so many different ways like this one did. |

Horror isn't my genre. This certainly wasn't... what's the right word... 'enjoyable'. But then again, I don't like horror, vampires, werevolves or zombies either. The story started out and went to nowhere. It's like the whole thing was produced only to make people feel disgusted. |
