Oh my, I shed some tears. Yuki RIP

Now it's the time of the miracle [or of disappointment?]. And, damn, it looks like Yunosuke will betray the no-bunt-no-ball strategy.

Yuki :( Well, to be honest, she wasn't very important to me, but her death is still sad nevertheless.

Yuki died. AND IT'S ALL YUNOSUKE'S FAULT. If that scrub didn't make those two errors to extend the game, Minami wouldn't have missed Yuki's call, and Yuki wouldn't have died from loneliness.

Alternatively, if Minami wasn't so cheap Yuki would still be alive. She only offered 100 Yen at the shrine. Not enough to both send your team to the nationals AND save your best friend's life.

Okay to be serious, I didn't feel anything about Yuki's death. I feel like she never appeared enough. Maybe if she was more involved with the story, I would have been bawwing and been emotionally wrecked. But instead I was like "well that's sad."

Also Jiro is now the best character in the show, for this scene:

Anime needs more people being slapped.

Yuki's death was pretty sad. I shed a few tears for her. ;_; It's a shame that the animation isn't so stellar on this show, because they way they drew the tears left a lot to be desired. And the parts where they showed the baseball team crying, just looked like the same copypasta face with the same tears. I guess my standard is too high from the way KyoAni animates people crying. xD

Also I wish they would have shown some scenes with Yuki earlier in the show, of her managing the baseball team before she got sick. I just don't feel any connection between her and the team, really. I was wondering "why does the team care this much?" because she's just been the sick girl in the hospital this whole show. You don't really get any feelings of friendship between them, unlike with her and Minami.

I did like the part where Jiro slaps Minami, though. It's understandable she'd be so shaken up, but she came around in the end at least. I really wonder if they'll be able to make it all the way. Next and final ep tomorrow. ;_;

It's a little bit better described in the book about how Yuki was the one person everyone could magically open their heart to, which is why (though they didn't explicitly state this in the anime) Yuki was appointed head of marketing, and instead of having normal interviews with Minami, they had the get-well interviews with Yuki + et al. It was sort of implied in episode 2 (?) by letting Yuki talk about some of the people on the team when Minami talked about marketing.

So sad! Poor Yuki, poor Minami! I'm still crying as I'm writing this. Slight acting nitpick not that it was bad but I wish she would have been more angry when she said "I HATE HATE HATE BASEBALL!" still good delivery but would have liked to have it much more angry and agitated. Well getting a total temptation to throw together a montage to "The Time Has Come" (Pikachu's Goodbye)

wow some heart you have she wasn't being cheap that was probably all she had and seriously she had no clue of Yuki's real condition and of the fact that she was expected to die with no chance of recovery once admitted to the hospital but true it was technically Yunosuke's fault that she missed her call her Final call and supposed to be her final words to Yuki but still seriously some heart
what can you expect from Yuki who is being hospitalized if it wasn't for Yuki they wouldn't have gotten this far at all since she was the one that got everyone to open up so that Minami could take notes am i right or am i wrong??

Ah, not really. I thought the exact same thing.

This was probably the best episode yet. Lots of wonderful drama, which surprisingly didn't feel that fake to me. Minami cutting in on their "let's go kiss ass at baseball" speech was great. All of a sudden the characters feel more real to me. And I agree with everyone else about Yuki. While her death was kind of sad, I didn't quite get why every single member of the baseball team cried for her. I guess that's what happens when you compress a show into 10 episodes, though.

One more episode left and they're still at the finals. I've got this nagging feeling we will not get to see the Koushien game. Maybe they're planning to win the finals and show some snapshot of them winning Koushien at the end, or overall just demonstrating that their "process" was more important than their "results," like Yuki believed.

Even though I felt a little sad at yuki's death I wasn't even close to crying, and I also noted the point that everyone was crying but doesn't it seem unreal even the 1st years were crying.what connection did they had with yuki? They could made that scene better the rest was good.Minami's speech was awesome until that slap came(poor minami XD)

I'm definitely gonna rate it lower than i wanted up to ep7. Got too cliche. But drama part about Minami running away got to me a bit, due to good bgm.

Ah yeah, thumbs up for Jiro. : D

I won't be able to rate this higher than a 7, unless episode 10 is fucking awesome. Which I highly doubt.

Hmm.

Yuki doesn't get worse and sees the Koshien. Cliche

Yuki gets better after getting worse. Cliche.

I wonder what other options they had. Maybe tell Minami that everything was alie to bring back her love for baseball? A terrorist organization showing up to change Yuki into a cyborg nicknamed Hopper?

Sometimes it is not about the dead it is about the living, I actually felt some emotion over her death. The emotion I felt however came with Minamis distress not Yuuki's death. That being said I agree that everything could have been done better to make it a much more impactful moment.

Exactly! I get so flipping tired of people complaining about cliche elements in anime! Your post demonstrates precisely why it is stupid to complain about it, there could have been three or four ways the story could have played out with Yuki and people still would have complained that it was too cliche!

I thought that the emotional content of the episode was handled well and that Minami's growth as a person in the show was well done.

You know when one of the main characters spends the first 80% of the series in hospital that the chances are pretty slim they are ever going to get out (I would have said nonexistant if it weren't for Fujo in Clannad), so I was expecting this. Even then, the waterworks started pretty quickly in the episode and kept up throughout.

I'd watched one episode and then stopped for a while due to travel so I thought I'd just watch the second episode this morning and then get to work. 4 hours later and I'm going to finish it off as soon as I post this. This was very well done--not the best show this season because there are so many strong shows in competition, but a nice competent anime that's taken a pretty weird premise (based on Peter Drucker's Management ) and made it work.

Hu, i won't say powerful but pretty emotionally charged stuff here. I can see why Yuki's death was hard to feel since she barely appeared, but it was through the whole team crying and Minami's rambling that i felt a bit watery.

I am also the only person that likes it when the leads wallow in self pity and crap so that was fun. XD

I cried at the beginning of the episode. Not because I felt any emotional attachment to Yuki, but more because of the atmosphere...like how Minami felt...

Somehow even managed to be worse than the previous episode. Minami's 180 is like "hey we only have 1 more episode left, so let's just change her." I am glad Jirou or whoever the guy is, punched or bitch-slapped Minami. She was like "Hey guys, my friend just died, you know what, she's only my friend, I am the only one feeling sad over her death, so yea, right before your match, the match that will earn you a ticket to koshien, let me fuck you guys over by causing a ruckus." I know you can't control your emotion, but she said too much.

By the way, the death scene is sad only because of the BGM, the rest is laughable.

The hospital scene was very well done; still don't think her "hatred" of baseball is all that interesting and don't think much would have changed without it. I mean she was already relegated to the bench; so she wasn't exceptionally talented that that would even be a problem. Her not being able to go pro.
