Best episode so far holy shit, swear we went through 2-3 genres in one episode, when did we become a battle shonen, lol?! Love spending time in the hotel, but getting out and exploring the outside world is a welcome change. I can tell you Yachiyo won’t be forgetting a spare battery ever again 😂

The Tanukians seem to be settling into the hotel well, well everyone except Mami who still acts like a bitch. Girl you’re living there free, respect Yachiyo and stop being snarky! The kids have really latched onto Yachiyo tho and I like how she’s a big sister figure to Ponko in particular.

Ponko and Yachiyo’s exploration trip had such a melancholic vibe because on one hand it’s cute seeing them bond, but on the other hand you see all this destruction and these great cities completely reclaimed by the earth. Not to get too deep, but It’s one of those humbling moments where you realize how the Earth will find a way with or without humans. We need it, not the other way around

Here I am thinking Ponko and Yachiyo are gonna have a nice chill fishing/hunting trip, gather some supplies and head back and it ends up being a fight for survival against a Dune-esque sandworm. When did get we get on Arakkis? Not Ponko running away after hyping me up for that big showdown lmaoo. I’ll give the girl credit tho, she’s got heart. Big sis Yachiyo saved the day in the end.

I’m wondering if these new creatures on earth had anything to do with the disease that made humanity leave tho. Maybe a byproduct or did they bring it themselves?

Ponko has become quite a diligent staff member at the hotel.

After the Tanuki family voiced their concerns, Yachiyo decided to expand the variety of cuisines she could serve to the guests. However, she faced a challenge due to the lack of ingredients and seasonings, so she went fishing with Ponko.

It was funny when the camel spit on Ponko after being called funny. Then she accidentally dropped the tube—a gift from the plant-type guest—into the water, which might trigger some future event. Later, we saw the camel’s hump sticking out of the sand as the rest was devoured by the extraterrestrial worm, Nudel, which is infamous for destroying planets it inhabits. That raises the big question—how the heck did one end up here, and where did it come from?

During the battle against Nudel, Ponko showed some impressive nerves, even if it was short-lived. It was a fun episode overall, with the Tanuki family behaving themselves and enjoying their time on Earth now that their food problem is solved.

Had several laughs. Ponko-centered episode. She's the best out of the Tanukis. Her mom's annoying as hell though. Looks like Earth is getting infested by other-worldly creatures.

Ok, first aliens and now we have space worms appearing on Earth.

Now I completely refuse, looking all these aliens around, that Mankind is extinct.

There is a big chance that many survivors are picked up by other aliens and settles on other worlds but cannot return to Earth yet becasue of toxin in the air still being present.

I mean, if aliens are this common 150 years after Earth was abandoned there is no way contact was not established with the survivors.

Damn, that animation during the chase scene(s) was beautiful. I didn't think a Graboid takedown could be achieved without the assistance of Burt Gummer, but I stand corrected.

So, I was worried about the Tanukians becoming part of the main cast after last episode, but at least Ponko has been cleared as a great addition. She was awesome this episode.

The comedy was on-point again and I particularly loved the direction in this one. Just all-around fantastic.

considering the size of that worm thing, it will make a rather large number of meals! ;>

goats and milk. chicken. eggs. fish. some form of cow in some location i would guess along with milk from those. potatoes. various other tubers, fruits n veggies. crabs. eels. i think Cook's prep table had a slab of bacon (frame right) on it so pigs at some location. the chickens, goats, pigs, and cows need feed so i hope they have some corn fields along with rice and wheat. but other than Gardner robot tending to the hotel rooftop farm... they have to have some form of robot/automated systems to handle the fields. various herbs and spices can be gathered wild depending on the biome you're exploring. but wouldn't Gardner robot's areas provide room to cultivate those plants? salt from Tokyo Bay's (Ginza is in the Chuo Ward of Tokyo) seawater wouldn't be that hard to process.

desertification in Japan? why?? there aren't any humans to pollute Earth for 100+ years. plus, there aren't any deserts in Japan to start with! :/

i am worried about the Hotel's wine cellar and liquor storage though. proper temp and humidity could easily be monitored and controlled for 100 years, if Yachiyo and the other robots kept the systems maintained. but the AMOUNT of fluid and NUMBER of bottles and possibly barrels/casks would have to be limited to how 'industrious' the Hotel owner was when it came to procuring supplies. of course, Yachiyo could go out and find more hotels, shops etc. and see what she could loot if the Tanukians start 'drinking the hotel dry'. ;>

the 'pun names' for the chickens were spot on hilarious! :D hah! :D great humor there!

This Yachiyo/Ponko/Environment Checker trio has such a fun dynamic and so much comedy.

Also really enjoying the funny faces and the charming animation. That action scene was genuinely awesome and tense. And a heartwarming ending.

Holy moly. Such a fun episode.

That "let's fishing" action scene sounded pretty similar to the Evangelion's Decisive Battle track...

Without a doubt, I consider this the episode of the season! There were so many tributes to American trash films that I got super excited. From *Tremors* (known in Brazil as *Ataque dos Vermes Malditos*) to *Evil Dead*, everything was delightfully honored. I even imagined that Kevin Bacon might show up to save the day! What a fantastic episode. And the characters gave it their all—they were incredible! The animation was also really well done. The joke about the robot doing yoga to preserve its battery was the cherry on top. Simply amazing!

Okay seriously, chopping up that big ol Kaijuu-pillar and turning into cooking ingredients, has Yachiyo not considered even once if it’s edible for humans? Like sure, it’s fine for the tanukis, but when humanity DOES possibly come back and they have some still stocked, will it work out as well? Lmao like cmon man 😂😭

Very good stuff, joking aside.

The only good thing about the arrival of the Tanukians is Ponko: everyone else in his family is annoying, especially the mother.

Seeing a raccoon girl with a chainsaw about to fight a giant alien worm was one of the most epic things I've ever seen. Too bad Ponko was scared at the end; honestly, I think he could have destroyed it.

As for the Nudel, they probably arrived with the previous alien. It's hard to believe that the Nudel evolved on Earth. Also, Ponko already knew them as a destructive species, which makes it even stranger.

What struck me most was how Yachiyo's mission was officially recognized just for defeating the Nudel. At least they won't have to worry about food for a while!

Overall tonally and story-wise I liked the episode. It was cool seeing the state of the world outside the immediate jungle city the hotel inhabits. I hope we get more answers later on as to why there are dune sand worms in the desert. Ponko refers to them as planet killers so are they connected to why the planet became uninhabitable to humans? Or were they planted by the green alien that I believe was stated to have visited about 50 years before the tanuki family? We did see some scenes of it doing things or planting things in the environment.

I didn’t like some of the dramatic to comedy gag swings. I would have preferred if some of the worm scenes to have remained more serious to keep up the tension and make Ponko’s and Yachiyo’s growth seem more earned. I’m fine with there being lighthearted gag moments in the middle of serious scenes but more from static characters like the environment robot.

Nah, in the Tremors

The scene in question from Vifam doesn't have anything to do with worms...it's about a mechanical tentacle-kind-of-a-thing scanning the area and a little girl trying to avoid it. Very similar movements and angles with the scene here.

Also let me see, the first Tremors movie is from 1990 and the version of Vifam I have watched is from 1983, so your "Nah" is not even theoretically possible.

And yeah, there's a similarity between the monsters from Tremors and the giant sand worm here (different scale tho...but I have seen only two of the movies, maybe they get bigger later?), but this wasn't my point.

@alshu It also could be a reference to that tense alien tentacle scene in the basement from Steven Spielberg's movie War of the World (2005). That was I was immediately reminded of; don't know the Vifam scene, though.

That was amazing: easily the best episode of the season so far for me.

I was not expecting epic action when I went into this episode... I thought they would just go on a fishing / foraging trip! CyGames Pictures did not have to go this hard for the action sequence against the Nudel, but they did. The animation was stunning. The suspense was insane. And Ponko wielded a chainsaw for a few seconds. Actually epic. Like, what more could you ask for?

Yachiyo and Ponko's travel montage earlier this episode also reminded me of how beautiful the background artwork in this show is. The atmosphere is set really well, and the lighting looks pretty as well. I think Marinate1016 put my feelings into words well:

By this point, I think the achievement system is just a random gag. It's hilarious though: I don't know whose idea this was, but thank you for Yachiyo with a "pretty voice".

Will this anime ever touch on the issue of alien creatures on earth again, or is this a one-time thing with the Nudel?

This was by far my favorite episode so far just off of how damn funny it was, there wasnt a gag a minute but I swear every punchline landed and as someone who grew up adoring tremors this was a nice homage. I really just wasnt expecting something so zany from this show but I do think they also did a great job at giving it some heart.

Also the tilt of the Earth can change from changes in mass distribution due to tectonic shifts and whatnot which causes climate changes. Electromagnetic field changes also can cause climate change because a drop in it would lead to more solar rays coming down.

@traed Tottori? that is NOT A DESERT! desertification means SPREADING OF A DESERT. sand dunes on an ocean shore do NOT a desert make. sand does not a desert make, there are multiple types of desert WITH NO SAND. tilt of the Earth takes BILLIONS UPON BILLIONS OF YEARS due to tectonic shift. not 150 years. electromagnetic field shifts have not happened on Earth for ... yet again billions of years... the North and South Magnetic Poles 'wobble' not shoot across the Earth at breakneck speeds. the North one moves right now about 10meters a year towards Siberia. once more not 150years. most desert definitions use 1" or less of precipitation per year; as their first and most important measurement. once the humans fully departed Earth, by the vegetation around the hotel the plants THERE are growing like gangbusters. the greenhouse gasses that humans SPECIFICALLY make stops accumulating and carbon etc. in the atmosphere... with more land covered by plants as the various parts of Earth's biome is reclaimed by flora... those gasses' amounts would REDUCE not INCREASE or STAY STABLE.

"Spoke to[o] soon when you could have let curiosity take over and looked into it." more. in. depth. on. your. part. next time.

remember, speaking to soon is different than speaking too soon. :) unless you know somebody named Soon. :) because i don't. :)

Gotta give credit where credit's due and that merit goes to Ponko. The absolute MVP of the episode not only by learning quickly how to fish and having the best face expressions but by surviving the fight with the giant earthworm. Yachiyo was pretty funny too with the way she had to recharge and another one of her features being unlocked. Overall a very giggling and action packed episode.
