----------------------------------------
Here we are again, with another monthly episode.

Sumire getting a Maiko bun, it's tradition in the most fashionable sense. But it's also an inconvenience as she has to leave it at that for a whole week, as depicted by the box pillow. And how nice for Kiyo to make sweet sake (a.k.a Amazake) for Sumire to pass the first night.

Honey with hotcakes? That is also an alternative. But whatever, the Maiko debut is also one of the most important steps of tradition, albeit like giving a newborn his/her name. Interesting that Sumire means violet, and in flower language: honest, sincere and faithful.

Ah yes, snow-clearing, and the embodiment of both Kiyo and Sumire Momohana's relationship. The sweet relationship that both girls have, is truly a sacred one.

Another fine episode, next episode tentative: April 29, same JST timing.

Sumire looks beautiful. Also, Kiyo is just adorable.
That pillow sure looks uncomfortable. Kiyo's dishes look delicious. Got to know Sumire's Maiko name, Momohana.
A pretty chill episode, exactly what I expected from this show. Also, the OST is so beautiful and relaxing.

For anyone interested, here's the link to the 'behind the scenes' official NHK World video that gives a bit more real world info about Maiko ^__^

It’s pretty obvious that this has a low budget by how most of the animation is still characters with only their mouths or eyes moving. When the characters are actually moving it is usually CGI, which isn’t bad, but the cycles are very noticeable.

This anime doesn’t bring much to the table to separate it from other SOL shows. I’ll probably drop it after the next episode.

These 3-minute documentaries are what I've thought the series would be mostly about. But the Maiko stuff is given the secondary focus and not really explained. If they wanted to do a wholesome slice of life with cooking tips, they should have gone all out with that.
I love all sections, but when you put three genres into 7-minute chapters, you don't get far with either.

personally I’m really enjoying this, it gives me some insight on both maiko and cooking but the only downside is that it’s airing monthly

Being a maiko looks really painful. They can't even sleep on a normal pillow.

The author really seems to be sentimental. There's really a melancholic feel to the show as it celebrates the growth of the characters while also looking back at the youth that is fading away.

Ye, that looks hella tough to sleep on. It makes me appreciate my pillow even more. Gotta give these maikos some respect for enduring this.

Anyway, that Hittsumi dumpling soup looks bomb af. I would love to try it one day!

They will add the food talk every epsoide to waste time :( the story is soo fun and relaxing if they just stop wasting time they have 190 chapters why they want to waste time? They can just add the same picture from the manga explain the meal and get the story going

The show is really faithful to the manga. The food segments is the highlight of the manga too, and they included it in the anime!

I guess the first episode was the one with the bigger budget, and the second was the one they tried to save as much as they could. But it still manages to move the story as its intended purpose. It's too bad its monthly, because I can't get enough of it as is.

For me it looked better because there's almost no animation except mouths, so jarring 3DCG is hardly noticeable because of it which is obviously a good thing.
Dub = fake crap. Always.

I dig shovelling snow- haha
But I really do like it... it's great exercise out there in the cold, and satisfying to see the area that you've cleared.
Also, I think it's totally do-able in shorts- because working hard at it will generate body heat. If you are all bundled up, you'll get overheated too fast. Maybe I just work too hard at it? I like to bust out the shovel and get it done quickly. (Because it really can be a good workout).
Anyway, for some reason that's one type of manual labor that I can always enjoy.

(Go away with your snowblower, neighbor dude. No, I won't say thank you)

I don't like how the bun looks, and with that kind of pillow it doesn't seem worth it IMO xD
Anyway that was a really relaxing episode, I like the snow part :)

Yes, it must be uncomfortable to sleep with that "Hakomakura".
Well now Sumire is Momohana, although Kiyo will still call her Suu-chan.
And in the end pancakes and hot cakes are the same thing xD

I'd prefer Sumire over Momohana but at least she doesn't have a ridiculous name like 'talula does the hula from hawaii' or 'X AE A-XII'.

This episode and it's flashback made me wonder, is maiko training something that girls choose to do or are they just chosen somehow and pretty much forced to go through it?

Why would they even have a name like that, that makes no sense, this is an anime about a real world thing.
