THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
At the end of the previous episode, Captain Nemo declares quietly that the time has come for his final battle with Gargoyle. And it begins in this episode, a spectacular showcase of animation, electrifying staging, and fast-paced out of this world (literally!) action. As a final wink and nod, Grandis and her boys have one final round of comedy as they tear through Red Noah's defenses to demolish its source of power. Not since the opening episodes and the climax of the Nautilus arc have we seen an episode as viscerally exciting and tightly edited as this. Its closing cliffhanger sets the stage for an even more emotionally charged finale.

One of the most awesome, epic and memorable battleship battles I've ever seen, simply brilliant. Of course I voted 5.

That was the biggest cliff hanger I have ever seen. So pumped to go into the finale.

In retrospect, if you appoint a person named Nemesis as your prime minister, you deserve everything that comes to you afterwards.

But yeah, space battles in an anime based off of 19th century tech, featuring alien Atlanteans, questions of morality, theology, and the role of tech in the evolution of man, and a love story to end a 2 million year story. I can only wonder what the final episode has in store.

I found the finale to be fantastic, but your mileage may vary.

I also think that in the dub of NADIA the English cast really hits their best in these final episodes. I think they do a consistently good job throughout the show (iffy accents notwithstanding), but for some reason these final episodes are especially fantastic on their part.

A great close-up shot on the gun at the end, I don't remember any other animated series where they blurred the cannon of a gun to make this "close" impression.

I can't really deviate from what has been said above: this was a really great spaceships battle. They really outdid themselves to make that happen in this setting. XD (although, Miyazaki himself could have try hard to make things happen in the air too)

Neo being a soulless robot servant is quite disappointing.

5/5 Nostalgic of those times when you could show blood to children on national public television.

Also, breasts giggling as a 'side-effect' of the new wardrobe?

Wait, so Gargoyle is controlling Neo? Let that not be true, that'd be wasting a very intriguing plot point.

It was one my first animes, I saw it in 1999. It really impressed me back then, particularly the OP and Nadia seemed really beautiful even she wasn't very likeable first.

It was a beautiful adventure who had some similarities with 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas from Jules Verne. :)

Few anime can match this kind of spaceships battle

Oh my, that was like way too epic, but I'm not sure if Gainax can fix this series with the last episode after all the episodes they have made me go through to get to this point...

Still epic as hell, and man did this remind me a lot of Uchuu Senkan Yamato! Way too much, really loved it and I sure love Gainax for their impressive space battles like always!

Looking forward for the last episode of this most impressive adventure!

Everyone is losing their minds over Anno destroying Eiffel Tower in Evangelion 3.0+1.0, but he did it 29 years ago!

Also, Gargoyle's theme is really freakin' epic! I'm shivering every time I hear it.

What a fan-freakin-tastic episode :D it was action packed, emotions were a roller coaster, the stakes were high and the animation looked great with a real punch and a kick to it!

I did notice that the animators paid extra attention to Electra which I have no problem with what so ever X3 like I have said they know exactly what they are doing ^-^ the opening battle was pretty great and fun especially with Nemo coordinating the orders of attack whether it be lasers or charging in head first! Also, LOL Anno really likes wrecking the Eiffel Tower XD glad he can fulfill his destructive fantasies ^-^ But, it is true with the kind of power Red Noah carries the Earth would be decimated our heroes our the only hope to stop this horrific future from becoming a reality! Loved how they created an opening for the Grandis gang to get through into the Red Noah once again proving bringing them along is always a great idea :D with Sanson awakening his crazy badass side, Hanson challenging his decisive genius badass side and Grandis challenging her tenacious leader badass side (all while looking cute and fantastic X3) and they seize a decisive victory despite a few road bumps XD but they end up saving the day while sacrificing the Gratan/Kathrine R.I.P. it has pulled our heroes out of many cornered situations before it will be missed!

I really love the outer space shots throughout the episode they really capture the vastness of space while adding a real grand and beauty sprawling atmosphere to it as well! Them piercing the Red Noah with their ship to create an opening was a really cool sequence too! Then Nemo, Electra and Jean heading off to save Nadia and confront Gargoyle who decides to put them on trial and declare himself God was inspiring and chilling respectively. Nemo staring down Gargoyle was badass as well and the insidious psycho has strung up Grandis, Sanson and Hanson as well as wiping out Nadia's consciousness! Nemo declaring that Earth now belongs to humanity was a great touch as well. LMAO Gargoyle saying humanity wages war endlessly to destroy themselves XD you mean like what you and your ancestors ALSO HAVE BEEN DOING!!! You delusional hypocritical lunatic! Also, please Nemo, Jean and Electra have more strength of character then you will ever have Gargoyle! That sudden transition of Nadia aiming and firing at Nemo with that cold look in her eyes was genuinely a jolt to the system her brain washing must be so deep for her to hold and wield a gun so mechanically with deadly precision (I also agree I hope that is not the case with Neo and he actually betrayed his people it makes him more of a dynamic villain). Plus with the raised platforms so far apart there are not many options for our heroes! We do get a partial face reveal from Gargoyle (hopefully we can see it fully before everything concludes) been looking forward to that. Nemo begs Jean to shoot Nadia and Neo and the episode ends with his finger shaking on the trigger. Great sendoff to a freakin' incredible episode :D bring on the conclusion!

This penultimate episode is super tense, I was begging for the Gratan to do something, stopping the bolt was last minute genius.

Gargoyle's an idiot, motion is relative so ramming the Red Noah into the New Nautillus would just be helping whoever can deal the most pressure (which is the New Nautillus since its pointier).

Can't believe what Gargoyle did to Nadia, so it's not out of the question that Gargoyle wiped the consciousness of Neo but earlier? Neo is a puppet figurehead that Gargoyle needs purely for legitimacy and Atlantean super powers he can unlock with the Blue Water.

Her mind's truly been wiped if she deals any kind of violence, much less her own father. But does Jean have the resolve to shoot the one he loves?

I like this because I love Evangelion but this is also a very very weird way to end this series. Its like to counteract the filler Anno had to turn this show into the most Anno-ass thing ever and crammed an entire series worth of Anno-ness into five episodes.
