Damn, these eps end in a breeze. Ashura is definitely more badass than in other Mazinger anime adaptations. Now short, I hope, wait for the sub.

Raw is here: http://up.b9dm.com/lz/b/9574.html

Subs are out.

oh, and [Gattai] are now adding the 3 minutes of cut content to their releases, too. The audio/video quality may be lower for those specific parts (since it's streamed), but at least you're seeing the whole thing!

Damn it, this show is too awesome to have to wait a week between episodes for...

Anyway, loved how freakin' theatrical this was. The narrator is so ridiculous. SONO NAWA SONO NAWA SONO NAWA...ROCKET PUUUUUUUUUUNCH~! And wow did Ashura get an upgrade in badass. Oh right, and Dr. Hell's "Alexander, Ghenghis Khan, and Napoleon may not have been able to achieve world conquest...but FUCK THEM I HAVE GIANT ROBOTS!" was the greatest piece of anime logic ever.

I also love the narration... it reminds a bit of the Kaiji anime. Over-done, but affectionately so.

I've never taken Ashura seriously before, but now I won't be able to help it. This episode rocks my socks.

Also, Gattai has done an exemplary job integrating the Bandai stream with the HD broadcast. It's quality touches like this which make me proud to be a mecha fan.

lol, the narrator adds such a briliant campy touch, love it.

Sensing Imagawa's touch in this episode, in forms of Ashura-badassness. wow. did definetely not expect that to happen.

Wow ! My mind has gone blank at around 18 minutes and I don't know what happened after that, it's a bit too much action and dynamism for me ;) I'm impressed by the direction and inventivity of the series too. Very impressed. As a "non super robot fan", I approve of Shin Mazinger Shougeki Z-Hen !

This show was created by a group of 3rd graders who had just eaten too many oreo cookies.

"Let's have the main character fight a gangster - no fifty gangsters!"

"Yeah, and then a GIANT ROBOT appears and he has to get away on his motorcycle."

"But then he gets in a missile motorcycle... no a FLYING missile motorcycle and fights back!"

"That's when another GIANT ROBOT appears, and he lands his flying missile motorcycle inside the robot and ROCKET PUNCHES the other robot in the face!"

"OMG AWESOME."

"BUT NOT ENOUGH. WE NEED KUNG-FU HERMAPHRODITES. AND GIANT SEA FORTRESSES."

"WITH LIZARD RIDERS. HUNDREDS OF THEM"

"MOAR GIANT ROBOTS"

"SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE"

We clearly need more 3rd graders working in the anime industry, then.

Damn, Baron Ashura was so badass, completely different from his 70s appearance. Guess he put his Imagawa on and kicks robots now.

Wow Baron sure got upgraded in strength since the original show, hell he barely even fought in any physical way at all. Also Dr. Hell seems to have some mysterious powers too, looking very bright on the villains side right now.

I noticed when Dr. Hell mentioned all the past world conquerors that had failed, in the original he mentioned Hitler along those but seem like they wanted to take it out, shame.

Terribly bad "backstory telling". I guess it's intentionally done to support the "old age" flavour of the hyper "theatricality" of the direction and narration but it's so heavy...

The full reinvention of Ashura is... weird. At least for me who never saw G Gundam. I know the character is kinda iconic but I don't get why the director rewrote it like this super glorious/dramatic being. It's a bit pompous.

3/5 Still fun. Still weirdly cheap-looking for such a big name in Japan.

Three episodes in and I'm beginning to like the series more for what it is.
I was kind of thrown off by Boss, Nuke and Mucha being so very different in the previous episode, and considering Boss may just be my second favorite character in the entire franchise (after Jun) I was disappointed at the fact that he's not the lovable high school pretend-bully with a heart of gold that he was in the original series, or the Mazinkaiser OVA (which I loved).
On the other hand, I quite like the fact that this series is tying Mazinger's existence itself in with the Mycenean's more, instead of just the villains. Also, it seems like Mazinger Z at times displays some rudimentary intelligence/awareness of his own, moving even before Koji locks on the Pilder, or when Koji's been knocked out. All of this gives Mazinger a kind of Raideen feel to it that suits it well.

Some of the changes feel weird to a big fan of the original series, but judged on its own merits I'm liking the series so far. The animation looks decent, and the episodes fly by. They're action packed, as Mazinger should be, and the battles are dynamic and impressive looking, and so far they don't drag.

Ashura is always a great, creepy villain (probably the best and most memorable out of Doctor Hell's lieutenants, although Pygman was without a doubt the creepiest), and seems a hell of a lot more badass here than he ever was in the original series.
