And onto the most important part of this episode, the Jabra fight. At first, I was excited for Usopp to fight Jabra like how I was at the initial introduction to him vs Usopp. But, as the fight went on and Usopp lost harder and harder, despite him trying his best to fight back, I realized what the episode title meant. Sure, it may have been a feeling of disappointment when Sanji came in as his clutch awesome self to save the day loaded up on his sick nicknames and one-liners(this time calling himself a hunter), but when I realized the purpose of having Sanji take this fight over I realized I didn't know I wanted this so bad. I wouldn't have it any other way. And Sanji's clutch appearance and that amazing looking kick to save Usopp was awesome in every way apart from the fact that he does this in like every arc and saves the day in like every arc and if we don't get a changeup it'll get expected and somewhat boring, not that it hasn't already started to get there. I predicted this like as soon as he was hit with the bath.
The purpose of Sanji taking over the fight is simple and very meaningful. In fact, Sanji said it directly: "There are things we can and can't do. Let me do what I can do, and you do what I can't do [save Robin]". The fact that Usopp haters in this thread are complaining and wishing death upon him shows me that they clearly aren't watching the same anime as me, something I had predicted in the past. They, like Usopp, feel like he's useless when in reality he's anything but, and I can only hope that Sanji will show Usopp the value he has to the crew as well as his haters. Without Usopp, Nami would be dead. Robin would have been crushed as an ice sculpture and perhaps not unfrozen. Nami wouldn't even be able to fight. The Going Merry would have been gone a long time ago. They wouldn't even have a ship. He may not be a fighter, but to wish death on him because he's not a fighter to the tier of Zoro and Sanji and Luffy makes me think that Usopp haters all want the anime to only be tough lads who beat each other by using raw strength and it's just shocking. I wanted to voice my dissatisfaction with Usopp criticism because I feel like this episode was directly addressing this issue and the point of it was to show Usopp, and in turn these people who don't get it either, that you don't' need to win fights yourself to be meaningful and save the crew in your ways. Usopp is brave and he's done so much for the crew and he's been unable to recognize how much he's grown strength wise and courage wise because of how much everyone else has too, so I hope Sanji's point of taking over the Jabra right really rings true to him. And yes, he's in my top two One Piece characters easily, only surpassed by Luffy!
There are so many great points here, I can't help but agree with them all. Honestly, while watching Jabra vs Usopp I had the feeling like Jabra represented these same haters of Usopp's character: as Jabra says a lot of the same points. Jabra called him useless, stupid, and only capable while in the hands of Zoro. However, when Sanji came in he said what both I and some others have also been thinking: that Usopp just has strength in different places, and he just needs to do what others can't do.
While some people say he hasn't changed, I've definitely noticed a difference in Usopp's fears. Though he hid with Nami, and is clearly above hesitant to enter combat, his legs don't tremble like they used to, and he's still willing to step up as much as he can. However, he's still not using his sniping capabilities to their full potential, and hopefully he will do so in future. Like someone else said, he gave his all against Luffy, so if he just invests time into preparing for his fights and attacks from a distance, I'm sure we'll see some true power from him. |
