Man, I like to nitpicking this episode, in the beginning when fake 'Aoi' (Major Motoko in disguise) hacked everyone's eyes with Interceptors to kidnap Mr. Serano. I find it impossible to hide one's shadow while you're in direct sunlight, although I do spot the subtle weight shift in the limousine in that scene.

Holy shit. That surprise right at the end was one I did not see coming at all. The Major definitely has great some hacking and acting skills.

I really love how they've given us that exposition too, with all the information finally coming to light. The audience learning what happened alongside the Major confirming the memories she attained was great; felt very natural. Far better than her just info-dumping to everyone back at the office.
It's an entirely different kind of flying, altogether!

After Batou tells the cops that they've had interceptors in their eyes, Aramaki tells the Major to dive into all IR systems within a 3km radius of the Serano estate and look for Mr. Serano's car, and that the laughing man has abducted Serano again. Aramaki's mouth was not shown moving, so it's not like he's trying to fool any cops. So it makes it seem like even Aramaki didn't know that the LM was the major. They use this scene to try to convince viewers that the LM can't be the major. However, in the next episode Aramaki acts like he knew that the major was acting as the LM all along. It would have been a good twist if they weren't basically flat out lying to you.

What a TWIST!
Seriously, hats off to you Major, you caught me in total surprise. The whole discussion was interesting too, lovely to see Major use her newly found memories from the laughing man. I think we fully know whom are target is now in these complex episodes, and im in full support! Let that bastard Yakoshima get what he deserves.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. If that scene wasn't included, then it would work out just fine. Curious to find such an obvious failing in what is otherwise such a well-crafted show..

I don't really understand what you mean.
Great episode. So the Laughing Man logo is the coffee shop logo he used in the unexpected situation after leaving this coffee shop.

Redpilled as in "knowing how far goes the rabbit hole"?
I guess not. LM knows a lot but is still somehow naive about his ideals. The real world is so dirty it can make you completely lose your mind.
It all starts with the Great War ( WWI ), and from there Evil "politicians" have further gained power by destroying innocent nations, even today.

Great episode and twist. It was a regular but informative ep, until that twist in the end. 5/5

Yeah, that was one hell of a twist and it was great too see that the memories of the laughing were put to good use. Well played Section 9.

Man; id completely forgotten this twist. What a great series

So what about Aramaki giving orders to the major. Was this operation conducted by major and batou alone without the involvement of any other section 9 members.

Damn, that twist though. Putting the data to good use, that's the Major for you.

Not just one Laughing Man, good to have confirmation on that too.

I thought the last few stand alone episodes were way better than the whole laughing man thing. But now it's finally really hooking me in! Took a while, but hey.

Re-watching this series because Netflix just dropped S2 of the GITS SAC they have and I couldn't find a recap movie or anything else to watch.

I thought for sure after the re-watch the score would go down but damn, it's been over 10 years and this stuff STILL stands out. Not for the art or animation which has improved since, but because the story is still amazing, especially episodes like Ep 12 and the twist in this one.

Unless the last few episodes mess up, this is going to still be a 9/10 anime.

Amazing. The pieces finally become clear to us, and so too it do they become clear to the major as Serano and "The Laughing Man" go down memory lane. A really good episode. Now I can't wait to see the company that utilized this scheme find itself in trouble now that the past has come back to haunt them.

Exposition dump with barely any action. Requires a leap of faith to ignore why the vaccine company couldn't just challenge the machine company on evidence. 5/10 - No balls.
