Back then, I didn't like ecchi that much because sometime nudity always bother me and i feel the fanservice get in the way of the story. But now I kinda used to ecchi in anime if the story and art is good. What are your thought and opinion?

Everyone is used to over-sexualization in media in this day and age. I personally am not a fan of ecchi anime, I do not see a point, unless they have something else to bring to the table, like History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi, Tenjo Tenge, Air Gear, Sekirei, High School of the Dead, Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai, R-15, Triage X, etc. even then I probably prefer them without the ecchi part, so, you know, watching anime wouldn't be as awkward in front of other people.

Why watch ecchi when you could've just watched hentai?

Fanservice doesn't get in the way of the story any more than humour or slice-of-life scenes do — partly because it's very often a component of the aforementioned scenes to begin with. There are very few series out there that are nothing but serious business at all times, and many of those that are possibly handicap themselves with their lack of tonal variation.

Giving the viewer something stimulating to look at on occasion can be a effective way to maintain their attention, and remind the viewer of how attractive and alluring the characters are.

Personally I love it but.... I can understand if people are not into ecchi. It's a preference. For me, I like to judge everything fairly. If an anime is good, it's good. And vice-versa if an anime is bad, it's bad. That's just a failure of the writers/creators involved. But even then, I think even bad anime have its merits. I always try to find something positive in things i don't even think are good or that's the way i tend to go about it~ xP

I like perverted humor, so I also like ecchi comedies. Ecchi action shows are usually pretty meh though.

Because most hentai are a pixelated eyesore with garbage plot, ecchi has much more to offer in much higher quality.

Some people wonder why you should watch ecchi when porn exists. My answer is: I watch ecchi anime because I want to watch a good anime, then I'm not going to subtract any point if there's anything sexual in it (unlike most MAL users, which is the reason why the genre is systematically rated lower).

Most of it isn't to my taste anymore as a lot of it is quite non-consensual which bothers the hell out of me. Some of the more consensual stuff can be great, Interspecies Reviewers was really funny and took advantage of the absurdity of the concept, the sexual content was consensual, and the show even had some surprising sociopolitical themes of acceptance of others regardless of immutable qualities like race and teaching the audience how important things like communication are in relationships. Sex-positive media can be great, it just needs to know how to not go into creepy territory

I used to not care for it. Not because I had any issue with sexualization, but because, in my prior opinion, it served as a sort of useless middle ground. If I wanted plot, I watched other anime. If I wanted "plot", I watched hentai. Ecchi existing as a genre in-between was something I just didn't see a purpose for.

However, with exposure to other ecchi series with social commentary like Shimoneta and fun-loving sex-positivity like Interspecies Reviewers, after giving them a shot, I really started to see the potential in the genre. Interspecies Reviewers even made it on my fav anime list on my profile, 10/10. Yes, partly because of NuxTaku, but also completely unironically and feeling it's well-deserved.

They just work as sex comedies but usually lack on the sex. Comedy aside they fail at being properly sexy most the time to anyone that has any exposure to sexual things. They can be pretty enjoyable for their comedy or romance and for some action but the rest leaves one in desire for better. I actually like it more than I used to though since I had some bad ones ive seen in the past that really bored me.

Which you dont get anymore because no one in the west pays for porn and too many companies are too cowardly for anything but vanilla these days. If only Japanese politicians would realize painting the human body as unfit to be shown and schools banning students from dating is why they are losing their population.

@traed afaik japan themselves bans the licensing of hentai for a long time now due to reverse importing of the japanese otakus to get that uncensored versions from countries like usa or europe so ye

Ecchi is part of this medium as much as Moe, Mecha, Battle Shounen, Isekai, Harems, and even Panty fanservice, etc...

Without something like Ecchi, Japanese Anime would be fundamentally different as a medium all together. Looking at other animation mediums, Japanese Anime is largely such a global phenomenon specifically because it offers such a thing as Ecchi. Which that in itself fundamentally makes it stand out and above all other animation mediums where Japanese Anime has genres and themes that do not exists in other mediums where if they do exist they are extremely limited in comparison to Japanese Anime to the kind of things they offer and do all together.

I love ecchi genre since the plots tend to be less restricted allowing more creativity. It scares away the corpo standards prevalent in too much mainstream anime. Also the villains there tend to be more interesting than another rule the world power cliche.

The desire to view beauty goes beyond just getting off to hentai. What is better than a fun game? A fun game with good looking characters.

I don't understand ecchi, but maybe I watched too few or bad ones. I prefer sexual content to be limited to a few intense and remarkable scenes rather than spread over 20+ episodes. However, it seems like I'm asking for too much, so I tend to avoid the ecchi/hentai tag most of the time, unless someone recommends a particular show that really grabs my attention.

That plays a role but not every job in Japan is like that.
https://japantoday.com/category/features/kuchikomi/'black-companies-'-we-know-but-there-are-'white'-ones-too

Iirc those laws later leading to blurring and pixelating genitals came in after WWII written by the US during occupation. Previous censorship from Meiji Restoration which also was Western influenced was already drawn back before then, if it wasnt there would have been nothing to censor.

I will have to get back to you if i find a certain paper I had read before. It was a report in Japanese so i have to use a translator once i find it too. I cant recall the details but i think had info on what people reported as their reason for not having kids. It also is possible there may be some food additive in Japan causing fertility issues as one factor, im not sure what though.

Some schools in Japan do indeed ban dating. Others ban public affection or require students report their relationship to school authorities
https://english.kyodonews.net/news/2022/11/eab314651baa-ex-student-awarded-damages-over-high-school-rule-that-banned-dating.html
https://www.japannihon.com/is-dating-allowed-in-japanese-school/
https://mainichi.jp/english/articles/20210616/p2a/00m/0na/011000c

South Korea was doing same and comically some Uni in South Korea did full 180 and had mandatory assigned dating which expectedly was a disaster.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/dongguk-university-course-marriage-love-dating-mandatory-1.4532780

South Korea also has an even lower fertility rate than Japan btw.

It's a kind of anime targeted toward horny male watchers with no gf/wife and usually have bad story.

Definitely not something I would purposely seek for.

Emphasis on "can be", depending on the individual viewer and the nature of the scene itself. Ecchi adds an extra element to a scene that can both maintain and heighten existing absorption in the watch. There's little point in trying to attribute a post that was clearly written in the third-person (distancing the author of the post from it) to me, unless you were deliberately looking for a pretext to jump on some sort of reductionist straw man.

Pardon my use of second person there. Nevertheless, i would like to solicit from you some examples of where ecchi has been used in anime to elevate the meaningfulness of a scene instead of it's often monofunctional nature

When did I mention the relevance of meaningfulness (however this is interpreted) in relation to ecchi scenes? Their primary purpose is to elicit some nominal level of lust that translates into entertainment, not to progress the narrative itself, as per my original comment. There are ecchi anime out there, such as Yosuga no Sora, that have scenes like these carry significance to both characterisation and future plot events, but they're by no means a requirement for ecchi to serve its purpose.

As a proud degenerate and pervert, the ecchi genre is one of my favourite genres which I'm proud to be fan of it. I love how ecchi sexualizes male characters so as a gay man, I'm proud of being an ecchi fan.

if a show is tagged as ecchi I won’t necessarily avoid it but it’s the same with sports or idol anime where I’m not actively seeking it out—mostly because I don’t find them interesting or entertaining when I do try them out
