If the answer you were looking for isn't on the poll itself feel free to post it below. The following are my personal thoughts and manner of answer the question above.Ï

Would go there dressed up as my favorite anime character. I'd pretty much find a musical instrument that I'm good at and walk around cosplayers (preferibly villains) trying to play their anime's opening or even the character's theme itself.~

I've actually cosplayed as Light Yagami before since my hair's a similar dirty blond colour. I even made my own Death Note.

Neat! (not a lot of people can actually pull it off) I'd love to cosplay as a female version of Ryuk myself.~ (add huge black wings to the outfit and paint my face like his eehee)

i just got back from salt lake comic con an hour ago actually. i like buying merch (unless it’s just resellers overpricing the fuck outta everything) and shit. i kinda like to cosplay too, but they’re always super simple, i was dressed ness from earthbound today. i’ve been a team rocket grunt in the past. conventions are a bit overwhelming but fun with some friends i guess

I regularly go to the Japan Expo in Paris, and what I do is mostly walking around, looking around shops, maybe buy something interesting, then walk even more around, looking at cosplays of people. If I weren't in a relationship already though I would definitely hit on female cosplayers.

It's I just don't do good in big social gatherings which I suppose that's what you could consider a convention and I have an anxiety about how I'd come off to fans of anything because generally you have to know enough things off top of your head or wind up coming off feeling like an outsider. Even online I am not good at discussing anime because I am terrible with names and my memory isn't the best. I have same problem with concerts and music festivals. Plus I have no friends to go with....

Not everybody at conventions are extrovertive people, I think even the opposite is the case. I mean nobody forces you to speak to people and you still can enjoy the con. I mean I was already going alone to conventions cause my girlfriend is not into it and as long as you know what you are going for you can still have a lot of fun. And if you come into unforced smalltalk with people, that's cool too! Not everybody are anime gurus at conventions. Same goes with concerts and festivals.

Going dressed up as something is probably the most fun thing to do, apart from maybe having to pose for photos with a few weirdos.

Looking around at all the vendors and buying some weeb merch is fun too.

I would primarily attend an anime convention for the rare merchandise that would otherwise to be too difficult to find online; that is, if it was exclusive anime merchandise for that convention alone.

Other than that I would go to admire the awesome cosplay's, even though I am not one to cosplay myself. I would still find it fascinating seeing in person how well people pull off those costumes.

I would also go there to get any possible signings from anime voice actors for specific merchandise.

I usually am just a con-goer and just take up a lot of photos and selfies.

Like this cosplay for example... I mean man look at the details

Every time I go to a convention I usually just end up getting photos of some of the cosplayers and wander around looking at the booths but not buying anything. Maybe I'll find a cool stranger to talk to and maybe they'll be a cool stage show to watch but otherwise, I don't do much. The first convention I ever went to I actually ended up dancing madly in the stage area with five strangers in cosplay after the shows had ended and that was the best memory I have of going to conventions.
Never met these guys again, but I hope they're doing alright. Hope they're living their best life.

Cons were worth it around I live until 2012-2013. They suck nowadays, since the anime part wasn´t the most important aspect, now.

But in the 2000s, them were the coolest. Awesome cosplayers, variety of official merch, shows with real J-pop singers (I still can´t believe I got to see Wada Kouji singing the best Digimon songs! RIP, my dude.) and much, muuuch more. I loved to sing in karaoke contests, I even got 2nd place once. And overall, chill and play games with friends I used to meet there. Food also used to be cheaper, including Japanese snacks.

I go to a minimum of one convention per year, though when I can I try to hit another one. There's only one near me now, but when I lived in Texas my record was four in one year.

These days I'll hit a couple panels and go to the concert if I'm interested, but a majority of my time if spent shopping in the dealer room and artist alley. Merch collecting is my biggest hobby outside of actually watching anime/reading manga, so this is the biggest draw of a convention for me. It's basically a huge, 3-day shopping trip. I keep extensive wish lists, including a Google Sheet to track what manga volumes I own and am missing, and have favorite booths that I line up for if necessary (used to be Good Smile, but they seem to have stopped coming to my con, so I generally favor the idol merch booth nowadays). Hunting for rare and unique merch is my greatest pleasure.

I always go to the AMV contest as well. Although I sometimes wish it wasn't like...three hours (I'm pretty fatigued by the end), it's always enjoyable.

I cosplay sometimes, but usually it feels like too much trouble. Wigs really hurt my head, and I'm usually too cold or too hot, and I always feel more stressed out when I'm cosplaying. When I do, I always just spend the third day in a sheep kigurumi since it's cozy and I can literally wear PJs underneath.

I usually leave the con once the dealer room closes. I have two dogs, so I go home a little early so I can take care of them. My older dog is very sensitive to me being gone and will literally get sick for two weeks if I stay out too long. There are times I wish I could stay late at conventions, but I'm "old" and get tired easily, so it's probably for the best.

My ritual on the last day is to watch the AMV contest awards, make one last round of the dealer room, and head to my local Kinokuniya where I spend any remaining money. Then I'll stop at a restaurant for food, head home, take pictures of my haul, and begin the unboxing process and put it all away.

Sorry for the wall of text but conventions are amazing. Two more months until my local one fires up again, and I'm super psyched!
