The best mecha and war drama anime of all time. Ventures into the world of true darkness with top-tier direction and endearing character writing. Manages to be serious with its elements without taking things too seriously. Also has the best art direction in any anime I've ever seen.

Oh my gosh... This has shattered my expectations by a mile. I may be in a vocal minority here but this is a well-deserved step up to the previous season. All the already exceptional theming, directing, and character writing... They're all tied in for quite possibly the most beautiful ending of all time. Everything just ends incredibly.

なんてことだ...。これは私の期待を大きく打ち砕いた。私は少数派かもしれないが、これは前シーズンに比べてステップアップして当然だ。すでに卓越したテーマ設定、演出、キャラクターライティング...。それらはすべて、おそらく史上最も美しいエンディングのために結びついている。すべてが信じられないような終わり方だ。

I personally don't care what other people would say, Bocchi the Rock hit that point where it really changed anime for me. A CGDCT that doesn't just contain and present some of the most endearing elements of any anime but by being a standout, has a very crucial and superb presentation that sadly not many people talk about. The humor in this is arguably funny, sure, but that's just a fraction of what makes Bocchi extremely special. You see, there are people who have trouble with communication and are always like that unless they would change. This series just does a fantastic job showing what it really is. Full of some of the most well-develop characters of any anime, be it the main cast or the supporting ones.

個人的には、他の人が何を言おうと構わないが、『ボッキ・ザ・ロック』は私にとってアニメを本当に変えてしまった。このCGDCTは、アニメの中で最も愛すべき要素のいくつかを含み、提示しているだけでなく、際立った存在であることによって、非常に重要で見事なプレゼンテーションを持っている。この作品のユーモアは確かに面白いのだが、それは『ぼっち』を特別なものにしている要素のほんの一部に過ぎない。ほら、コミュニケーションが苦手な人っているじゃないですか。このシリーズは、その実態を示す素晴らしい仕事をしている。メインキャストであれ、脇役であれ、あらゆるアニメの中で最もよく練られたキャラクターでいっぱいだ。

I haven't watched the original Casshan just yet but if one asks me how I think of this, I'd say it's admirable. The OST is extremely gripping as each song would fit every scenario well and the visuals in this are great. The cinematography in this is played very well. As for the writing, though, I'd say it's passable. This show's interpretation of human struggle is fine and has it's moments where it can be quite compelling but they could take more time expanding that further as the complete package of it is a little inconsistent. Still a hidden must watch in my books.

オリジナルの『キャシャーン』はまだ見ていないが、これをどう思うかと聞かれれば、立派だと答えるだろう。OSTは、どの曲もどのシナリオにもよく合っていて、非常に心をつかまれる。この映画の撮影はとてもうまくいっている。脚本に関しては、合格点だと思う。この番組の人間的葛藤の解釈は素晴らしく、説得力のある場面もあるが、その完成されたパッケージが少し一貫性に欠けるので、もっと時間をかけてそれを広げていくことができるだろう。それでも私の中では隠れたマスト・ウォッチだ。

I really had high hopes that this series would fix the problems the previous installations in Code Geass had. But no, this is an even greater miserable experience. At least with Rebellion, Exiled, and Re;surrection, they have story buildups that stay true to themselves, even if they're directed for the very worst. Recapture is just filler. There's no reason to bring more evil in this timeline and even if this is an intention, every villain has zero relevance besides being ridiculously evil. By the way, it's a good time to mention that despite the title of this show, Rozé barely appears and he's hardly useful, especially as a protagonist.

『コードギアス』の前作が抱えていた問題を、このシリーズが解決してくれるのではないかと大いに期待していた。しかし、いや、これはさらに悲惨な体験だ。少なくとも『リベリオン』、『エグザイル』、『Re;surrection』では、たとえ最悪の事態を想定して演出されていたとしても、自分たちに忠実なストーリー展開があった。リキャプチャーはただのフィラーだ。このタイムラインにこれ以上の悪を登場させる理由はないし、それが意図的なものだとしても、どの悪役もとんでもなく邪悪であること以外に関連性はゼロだ。ところで、この番組のタイトルにもかかわらず、ロゼはほとんど登場せず、特に主人公としてはほとんど役に立っていない。

A complex story that turns out to be borderline stupid. This could have been a lot better if not for the fact that it's filled with decisions that are either ludicrous or flat-out redundant. A series that doesn't know or just doesn't respect the concepts of strategy and morality. I'm amazed to see how this show tries too hard to be either epic or melodramatic only for it to be completely directionless. At this rate, it's filled to the brim with a fuck wave of plot conveniences, which could actually be avoided easily if you learn that there are obvious but also realistic limits and options near you.

複雑なストーリーが、バカバカしいとしか言いようがない。おかしな決断や冗長な決断で埋め尽くされているという事実がなければ、これはもっと良くなっていただろう。戦略やモラルの概念を知らない、あるいは尊重しないシリーズだ。この番組が壮大であろうとメロドラマ的であろうと頑張りすぎて、まったく方向性が定まらなくなっているのには驚かされる。このままでは、筋書きの都合のいいファックウェーブでいっぱいになってしまう。自分の近くに明白だが現実的な限界と選択肢があることを学べば、実は簡単に回避できるはずだ。

Season 1 may be pretentious and contrived, sure, but at least you won't be met with the dubious hell that is not even touching a single bit of a story while also cheating your way to the end. I already talked about how season 1 has a lot of silly choices. With R2, this show has proven itself that it's just a definition of plot convenience mayhem. I can't really tell what this tries to even become. It's as if it tries to be as ridiculous as possible. It's so stupid that it's either a hilarious fanfiction or a massive chore. There are so many strategies and counters that are out of place and have no practical context at all. Character writing broke harder and faster than any script collapse I've ever seen thus far. Being very dramatic doesn't mean shit when your story is just atrocious from left to right. The ending doesn't address any of what was happening at all. I'd argue that it's one of the worst endings ever. It tries too hard to create two perspectives, one for Lelouch and the other for the story, but in the end, it's just as directionless as it can get.

シーズン1は確かに気取っていて作為的かもしれないが、少なくとも、ストーリーに少しも触れず、しかもズルズル最後まで行くという怪しげな地獄に見舞われることはない。シーズン1には愚かな選択が多いという話はすでにした。R2で、この番組は筋書きの都合のいい騒乱の定義でしかないことを自ら証明してしまった。これが何になろうとしているのかさえよくわからない。可能な限りバカバカしくなろうとしているかのようだ。あまりにバカバカしいので、愉快なファンフィクションか、あるいは大いなる退屈のどちらかだ。場違いな戦略やカウンターがたくさんあり、実用的な脈絡がまったくない。キャラクターライティングは、私がこれまで見てきたどの脚本崩壊よりも難しく、速い。ストーリーが左から右までひどいのに、ドラマチックであることに意味はない。エンディングは、何が起こっていたのかまったく取り上げていない。史上最悪のエンディングの1つだと主張したい。ルルーシュの視点とストーリーの視点、2つの視点を作り出そうとしすぎているが、結局は方向性が定まっていない。

Okay, let's get this out of the way. The first half is just extremely generic. Not just that but it feels insanely disjointed. The worldbuilding is already awful. It doesn't really show us if any of the settings are the core elements or at least add to the story. The mechs in this are probably the worst a mecha anime could ever come up with. Each of those is very boring and are blatant plot device. The worst offender, however, is the characters as they have no valuable purpose and are nearly parodies, especially that gut-wrenching bitch Zero Two.

And then you get the second half. Boy, have I not been given a slight warning when I tried to finish the show. The show single-handedly played itself so hard, it's outright unbelievable. While fight scenes are often portrayed as popcorn entertainment, I can't stress enough just how much this harms the story. Not only are they not connected at all but it brings in some stupid stuff like the endgame aliens, which don't even belong to the show at all. The ending is horrible, it doesn't conclude anything at all, it just ends there with some cheap power of friendship.

さて、整理しよう。前半は極めて一般的だ。それだけでなく、めちゃくちゃ支離滅裂な感じがする。世界観がもうひどい。どの設定も核となる要素なのか、少なくともストーリーを盛り上げるものなのか、よくわからない。登場するメカは、おそらくメカアニメが考えつく中で最悪のものだろう。そのどれもが非常に退屈で、あからさまなプロット・デバイスだ。しかし、最も悪いのはキャラクターで、何の価値もなく、パロディに近い。

そして後半。この番組を最後まで見ようとしたとき、私は少しも警告を受けなかった。このショーはたった一人で自作自演をやってのけたのだ。戦闘シーンはポップコーン・エンターテインメントとして描かれることが多いが、これがどれほどストーリーに悪影響を及ぼすか、いくら強調しても足りない。まったくつながりがないだけでなく、終盤のエイリアンのような、このショーにまったくふさわしくないくだらないものを持ち込んでいる。エンディングもひどいもので、まったく結論が出ず、ただ安っぽい友情の力で終わっている。
