Fate/strange Fake: Whispers of Dawn

In the American city of Snowfield, a new Holy Grail War is about to erupt. Such ruthless confrontations pit against each other magic experts known as magi, who ascend to the status of Master by summoning Servants—heroic spirits of the past. The winner is thought to have any one of their wishes granted.

However, it appears that the organization behind the present situation has merely managed to create an imperfect copy of the Third Holy Grail War. As the unusual ritual catches the attention of the Mage's Association in London, Flatt Escardos, the young apprentice of Lord El-Melloi II—a former participant of the Fourth Holy Grail War—travels to Snowfield and, to the great dismay of his teacher, joins the ranks of the Masters.

In this fake conflict where the line between Masters and Servants is blurred, the different factions will have a hard time preventing the city of Snowfield from plunging into total chaos.

Guys, you don't get it! Arthur is so hot, I want to slobber on his balls and make him my slave!

I never liked Fate, it had decent animation and really kick-ass hot characters who I'd let them kill me anyday of my life...... but I like some meat and intrigue in my anime husbandos and waifus. Thankfully, while this re-iteration lacks in macho action(for now), it very well makes up for it with amazing political intrigue and a really intricate set of characters who will be set through the ringer some time soon.

Also, I somewhat like that twink Enkidu and gay ass Gilgamesh has ... made a return. As someone who has read the Song of Gilgamesh, I ship them harder than Gojo and Geto.

I digress, the animation is even better, because I actually like probably animated frames over the over-stimulation of colour by Ufotable. The cinematography, the direction of Shun Enokido and Takahito Sakazume, the glorious sound design by Masanori Tsuchiya, the staff is star-studded with industry legends ready to flex even more than the previous TV Special which made me bust.

Mixed Feelings

If i was to compare this series to the rest of what fate has to offer,this would be the wierd middle child nobody quite understands. The animation isn't bad by any length, but it's clearly not ufotable. And it will never be ufotable. The most glaring issue i could see quite easily is the sound quality. They failed in quite a spectular manner in that regard. If you watched any ufotable fate entry you know what im talking about. Even the animation as good as it is(not as good as ufotable need i remind), it lacks that ...personal feel any encounter between 2 servants has. ...

OF course, this was more of a pilot then anything,so the actual show/movie might be improved upon.... But even the story for this one is ...wierd? I for one especially got put off by that final scene with who is supposed to be the MC of this series. I might be looking too much into it, and i hope im wrong and it turns out good, but i'll keep my expectations to a low for the time being.

If this was the fake, I don't think I want to see the real thing.

The art work is nothing to write home about. It's about the same old-same old for the franchise. I did like some of the background stuff. But the animation was the epitome of flashy trash. Lots of color, and camera angles jumping around during the big battle. But if you looked past that, the rest was less than average. Half a notch above kid-vid. You'd think a franchise that has made this much money could do a lot better. Well, I am sure they could, but that would cut into ... profits.

The characters are the usual cut/paste assortment they've been using for years. Not a smidge of anything original or new happening here. Just slap a new skin on the old animation, and push them out the door, as fast and cheaply as you can.

Got the same impression from the VAs. They sounded like they were in a hurry to go get a bite at McDonald's. The direction is a study in inompetance. Especially where the soundtrack is concerned. I rarely mention that, but this one was so woefully abused and distracting, I'd be remiss if I let it slip.

This left me screaming at twilight. Time forever lost, to yet another gambit, to fleece otakus from another yen. If I graded this prolog, it gets no better than 64/100 for a mere D. Doesn't bode well for the series.
