30-sai made Doutei dato Mahoutsukai ni Nareru Rashii
It feels like the studio put their entire budget into Kurosawa and Adachi's lashes, lol.
Favorite bits: Fujisaki as the closeted fujo, fantasizing over Kurosawa totally ruining Adachi. Kurosawa going into a musical number during their date had me in stitches. It is a shame they rushed the last ep, hopefully there will be a movie. |

Alice to Therese no Maboroshi Koujou
So uh, let me see if I've got this straight... Itsumi gets stuck as a child in an alternate, stagnant, idealized version of Mifuse w/ her teenage parents and becomes irrationally jealous seeing her parents kissing b/c she's developed a crush on her father and causes that dimension to create cracks in that world and eventually disappear but not really? Why does this sound like Back to the Future but a lot more complicated? We never got to see Itsumi reunite with her parents in reality, either. Also, did Itsumi not realize who her parents were in the pocket dimension at some point later on when she got back to reality and grew up? Does the world that teenage Masamune exist in stay stagnant b/c it is a memory and isn't "real"? I guess the message is nothing is truly gone unless it is forgotten?
I also find it hilarious that the one of the first interactions we see Masamune have with Mutsumi is her flashing her underwear at him from the rooftop and he comes running like a starving dog, lol. |
7 | Movie | 1 | Production value from MAPPA is spectacular as always. | PG-13 |

Amnesia
I wanna like this series - I really do. I love the premise of alternate timelines and time skipping back to a fixed point in time with someone different (maybe the source material was a game?). This series had so much potential if some characters were expanded upon and the writing was cleaned up.
But... The MC is bland, unlikable and has this innate ability to not listen to anything anyone tells her to do and then wonders why everything goes to shit. She has no personality. None of the guys ever give a good reason why they have feelings for her. Maybe the viewer is supposed to self-insert? She doesn't even have a proper name, ffs. Shin is a moody, possessive and aggressive bastard. He'd get slapped in a second for that behavior. Idc what kind of trauma you've experienced, that doesn't give you a pass to be a shitty human being. Toma has trust issues and needs to not invest in human sized cages. Pretty sure he started the whole SJW/White Knighting bullshit. Should be maced in the face. Ikki is a slimy playboy who wants all the pity in the world b/c he is drowning in pussy and no one understands his loneliness. Whines a lot. *Eyeroll* And Kent. Poor misunderstood introverted Kent. He is socially inept and I am a billion percent sure he is on the spectrum somewhere. Because of course he is. He actually treated the MC like a person and not like a thing. Probably the only one I liked. Finally there is the mercurial Ukyo, who has relived the future multiple times and lost the heroine that many and has put the heroine in danger/threatened her multiple times. And this is somehow...ok? His whole story line was rushed and felt unearned. I never understood why he swung between good/evil Ukyo. Was he just unhinged b/c he had died so many times and seen/had the heroine die so many times? I guess that'd make anyone a little loopy. Just throw the whole boyfriend out, sister. |
6 | TV | 12 | Well, that was a profound waste of time. | PG-13 |

Angel Beats!
More bittersweet than sad. Was good in parts, but I don't get the hype. A lot of characters weren't fully fleshed out, nor did they ever explain how/why Tenshi has powers. Would've liked to learn more about Tenshi's backstory rather than the last 5 minutes of the series that we were given. A lot of the series remind me of "What Dreams May Come". Music was wonderful.

1. A wee bit rape-y. Asking for consent AFTER the act is not how consent works. 2. Takato looks like Haruka from Free and Uenoyama from Given had a kid. I'm getting Studio Deen vibes even though it is Studio Clover. 3. My favorite comments: "This is like the one part your mom sees when she walks in on you, but the whole thing." And with regards to the last/christmas ep: "me, watching takato stress out about christmas with junta: my dude just put your dick in a box and call it a day."

The dynamics of Albert, the Count, Mercedes and Ferdinand remind me a lot of the dynamics of Lily and James Potter, Snape and Harry. The Count both loves and hates Albert b/c he has both Mercedes and Ferdinand in him. It's not a 1:1 comparison, but there are similarities.
|
7 | TV | 24 | First half: man i really dislike Albert. I hope he dies. Second half: wait, when did this turn into Game of Thrones? Aesthetic is interesting and asks the question, "should the children of corrupted individuals suffer for the sins of their parents?" | R |

ep 1: Cinderella is a manipulative psycho, got it.
ep 2: The wolf is Patrick Bateman stuck in a Black Mirror world that turns into Saw at the end. ep 3: It gives me Promised Neverland vibes, more sad than scary. ep 4: No moral, just be grateful and don't get ahead of yourself, I guess? Made little to no sense. ep 5: Feels like the pilot to a 12 ep series. Lead characters are done well and someone at WIT has a muscle mommy fetish. ep 6: Reminds me vaguely of The Giver. Hyouka
My only major criticism - it takes too long for the series to get going. I was at least 7 episodes in before I felt motivated enough to continue watching. The ending was left open to interpretation - here is my take.
Oreki says that he'll run the business side of things for Chitanda. She doesn't hear him clearly and asks him to repeat what he just said. Embarrassed, he says it was nothing. She then says, "No, it's only April." Here is the thing. If she didn't hear him, she wouldn't have said anything about it being April b/c regardless about that statement being true, that isn't relevant to the conversation. I honestly think she did hear him and by saying "No, it's only April" she is in her own way accepting his form of dedication/commitment to her. He's not confident enough (nor assertive) to ask her out directly. But I can almost guarantee that if she held his hand and asked him what he said the first time, he might've gotten a little braver. He seems particularly susceptible to touch it breaks down barriers for him. And especially since no one else was around, he may have been more inclined to do something. I still wish that it ended with him finally making that verbal commitment and Chitanda giving him some sort of substantial reward, like a kiss on the cheek or something. She has to initiate b/c he simply won't. |
8 | TV | 22 | World's most reluctant jr detective is hauled around to solve minor mysteries by a disarmingly curious moe girl that unintentionally has the ability to twist him around her finger. I wish I had a drop of Chitanda's charm and timing. Adore Oreki | PG-13 |

WEP did a better job of exploring school bullying, fleshing out its characters and their motivations. Everybody except the MC and Rion's backstories are given less than 30 seconds of screentime and in the last 20 min or so which felt rushed. Art is fantastic, tho.

Parody of tokusatsu series of the 80's. Animation is great for an 80's OVA. The beginning credits scene is fantastic montage and is by far my favorite part in the entire thing - the lyrics are hilarious. Everything is goofy and nothing is to be taken seriously

Robot Carnival
Thoughts:
Opening and ending credits: fantastic and funny. Music is great Franken's gears: esthetically gorgeous, not my fav, tho. Deprive: By far my favorite. Love the music and the fact that they told an entire story in less than 10 minutes with no dialogue. Presence: I understood nothing, but it is beautifully animated. Starlight angel: Has a similar feel of guy saves a chick in danger but this one is at Disneyland if everything was Tomorrow Land. Love this one, too. Cloud: Kinda strange. Robot child passes by the evolution of humanity until a sky god gets it to acknowledge them and then the child becomes human? A tale of two robots: A Mech fight featuring an actual gaijin, I'm impressed. Best line is the nerdy kid saying, "If it was English, I could handle it, but I haven't studied much American." Nightmare: Reminds me of the Hyakki Yagyo (parade of 100 demons) but they are robots instead. |
